The Eurovision is a big deal for the european nations, not because of the pressure of having to win to give pride to your citizens, but because it's like a getaway for them.

They all stay in the same hotel, eat together, have parties together, just have fun in general. Sometimes they have sleepovers. They care about winning and get upset when they lose, but it’s not too serious between them. They just like to have fun in the contest.

Other non-european nations come to cheer them on too (Leon comes to cheer on Emil, Matthew and Alfred come to support Arthur Francis and Ivan, Kiku comes to cheer on Ludwig and Feliciano) Ivan is almost always sad during Eurovision since he never gets any wins. Alfred always takes him out for a comfort date afterwards to make him feel better. He only won once in 2008. Luckily for him, the other europeans never made fun of him or mocked him for losing all the time. The nordics are bitter about Berwald always winning. They know he's good, but never give him all 12 points (only Tino does that)

In your fanfiction “torn between love and hate” what time period is it? I know it’s steampunk but I read about Alfred talking about the 18-19th centuries in some chapters and the clothing you draw them in your art never really speaks to me about a decade this could be set in other than vague late 1900s future fantasy.

i intentionally made it pretty vague so its more to the reader's interpretation. Steampunk in general is like, pretty advanced for its time so their clothes reflect that. And in my world, each kingdom is set in a different time, but theyre roughly around the samw time.

Like Diamonds (ruled by Kiku in my AU) would be in the Meiji period, which is 1800s. Hearts would be in the Rococo/Regency period, which is 1700s. Clubs is like Early Modern Germany, which ranges from 1500-1800, but I'd say its 1800s. Spades is the 1800s-1900s.

But of course, like any fictional world, they have magic that makes technology possible for them. They live medieval-esque lives but have an archaic type of technology more advanced than ours that varies from kingdom to kingdom.

We plan to do that with some of our older stuff starting with ones we particularly loved or that were favorited a lot so we can revisit them. Oh, it's so nice to see that Taang is still loved by so many people (and it's always really nice to see active blogs about them ^^)

What do I love most about Taang?

I love their dynamics. They bounce off each other almost harmoniously, because they are opposites in so many aspects of their lives: beliefs and morals, elements, backgrounds and childhoods. They clash and struggle and are far from perfect, yet, no matter how big the storm, how complex the disagreement - they always reconcile, they always listen to one another, they always learn and grow and strive to become better people. They respect one another so much to work around their oppositions and thus balance and understand one another in ways that no other member of the ATLA cast can replicate (with Aang and Toph).

And though they are natural opposites, they still have so much in common if you delve deeper. Aang and Toph are the youngest in the Gaang - and share the same love for teasing and joking; they share a very deep connection with the the original benders of their respective elements (Toph with the Badgermoles and Aang with Appa); they both runaway from their homes at a young age because of paramount expectations; both are masters of their bending - even inventing a new form/bending style at 12 years-old (air scooter and metalbending).

Aang represented all Toph needed in her life - freedom, loyalty, companionship and a friend. He saw her beyond her perceived weakness and never underestimated her capabilities as an earthbender and his potential master. He taught her to trust and confide, understood her when no other person did and soften the hard edges that she'd constructed to protect herself from her suffocating reality. In a sense, Aang was a breath of fresh air in her life.

Toph, on the other hand, represented all Aang needed - stability, confidence, strength. Aang, being the Avatar, had been coddled and protected by almost everyone - Katara, Sokka, admirers, etc. He wasn't Aang, he was a symbol - a symbol of hope and peace. But Toph didn't care about his divine-like power, didn't care that everyone around him praised the very ground he stepped on - in Toph's perspective, Aang was Aang. A kid just like her and she treated him as equals; never afraid of pushing him to further his growth; she taught him to stand his ground, face his enemies head on, become a stronger, confident bender. She was the ground that anchored him to the mortal world and made him feel normal.

It's also poetic, in the finale - Toph is in the air whilst Aang is mostly on Earth. And, may I add, that at the end, whilst Zuko and Katara ultimately did teach him plenty so he could face the Firelord, Aang's preferred bending style, that was not his own, was Earthbending. The element that had once stumped him, frustrated him; the hardest element to master, his opposite... and now, he used it to protect himself, to shield and fight. He used every technique Toph taught him - rock armor, crushing earth, even seismic sense... Toph ultimately saved Aang during the Finale.

I can go on and on about them, but I'm in the midst of writing a dissertation on Toph and Aang's development and potential in ATLA - so I'll save most of my thoughts for that whenever I get to completing it.

And... let's be honest. Aang and Toph together just look so beautiful. They would be the IT COUPLE in ATLA - their canonical height difference should be reason enough to stan Taang. Avatar and The World's Greatest Earthbender... come on now! And it would just fit right - Aang as an adult would have to travel the world and Toph would gladly travel alongside him since she doesn't have a "home" (Aang is her home); and, as adults they could built Republic City from the ground up whilst also balancing raising a family... UGH! IT WOULD HAVE BEEN SO GOOD!!!

NedCan are unproblematic as hell. They're the type to not say anything, but know that the other loves them. That connection is just there. And Lars is willing to put down his laws of money handling to do grand gestures for Matthew (like parades, festivals, a field oftulips as far as the eye can see, and even developing an entire breed of tulips just for him). Matthew appreciates the gestures a lot, cause it means that Lars really does love him despite Lars barely showing emotion and saying anything. Matthew's gestures are more lowkey, like flowers and chocolates and sales coupons and dates. Their house is tidy and so peaceful that you can actually hear the wind outside. They respect each other's boundaries and they have the same opinion on everything so they've never disagreed on anything. They make up for the silence with lots of physical affection. NedCan extra HCs: -The tulips never stop. Lars needs to get a hold of himself or Matthew’s entire land will be covered in tulips -They mostly spend their days tending to their fluffy pets, the garden, or just cuddling on the couch while doing their own thing. -Lars is actually quite affectionate, but he's not the shy type of person. He's confidently affectionate with but with a straight face. However you can see he's blushing a bit so he does like it. -Lars always does something nice for Matthew in meetings like bring him coffee or food -They have bridges named after each other -They have "Canada 150" tulips everywhere in their house -It's basically SuFin, minus the "domestic family husbands" vibe. -Lars barely shows any expression. He only has two of them: Anger and poker face. He does not know how to make any other expression. However Matthew can tell if he's happy, smiling or laughing.  -Lots of biking and boat trips -They are literally so unproblematic -Simps for each other -Pancakes, pancakes everywhere -Lars loves it when Matthew's all bad*ss. Lars once asked for the quickest way to someone's heart and Matthew responded with "through the third and fourth rib", Lars was both aroused and scared at the same time. -Matthew gets frustrated sometimes because he's taller than average, but then Lars swoops in with his thunderingly tall height. Alfred has the same problem. -With Lars barely initiating anything, it's Matthew who takes the leap. This makes Matthew more confident in himself and his decisions. -They have a swimming pool as well, Matthew is usually the one who uses it. He coaxes Lars into joining him occasionally. He brings Lars to Alfred and Ivan's pool games sometimes but Lars never participates. The only time he does participate is when Alfred has succeeded in drenching him with water and he has no choice but to join them. It only happened twice because the third time he came he brought an umbrella.
