ive been obsessing over the idea of an atla time loop au lately because i find it hilarious all the shit they’d get into ,, like at first when they don’t really know what’s happening i feel like like aang especially would want to keep the timeline intact, but once it becomes clear it’s always going to reset they start going apeshit

after they run out of monsters to ride and games to play or whatever they just start fucking with people for entertainment (cuz 20 years reliving the same thing over and over again gets draining fast) like they’d start selling anti-fire nation merch or something but it just starts getting more and more ridiculous

one time they pretended they were all the avatar and everyone helps each other out to play their parts (even sokka, whos just invented swordbending

zuko starts sliding down the ramp to his ship int he southern water tribe on wheelies courtesy of sokkas giant brain (he has to rush to make them every time)

eventually they stop explaining to people that theyre in a time loop so iroh just has no idea why his nephew/son is casually committing treason with these random children now. hakoda doesnt know why his kids are masters at waterbending and swordbending respectively now but hes not complaining (he is complaining about their lack of self preservation, though)

they go beat up ozai within the first week and the entire world is astonished that some teenagers just saved the world and theyre like ‘lol normal tuesday right guys’

sokka is super annoyed that he keeps having to remake his sword every time and he cant even make it as soon as they loop back cuz he has to wait for the asteroid to come

they always try to do something different so they dont get bored but suki. ALWAYS. has her rematch with azula. its a tradition for them and they start making costumes and stocking up on snacks to watch suki beat up azula for the 476th time. it stopped being satisfying a long time ago but they might as well have some form of continuity in their lives

thinking about when i was small, how my mom told me that pipe cleaners were just a tool until people started idly shaping things with them and it grew so popular that they were marketed as crafting materials. and that story about how the original frisbees were disposable pie plates that students flattened to throw. and how when i was a child i had a wooden mancala set with shiny, colorful stones, but on invention it was played with rocks and grooves dug into the dirt. and middle school, paper football and tic-tac-toe and mash and mad libs, games that just need pen and paper. and before that, games of pretend with pirates and princes and masked marauders. how at slumber parties after lights out, we used to whisper storytelling games, i say one sentence and you say the next. and shadow puppets. and the way all the kids in the neighborhood used to divide into teams and throw fallen pine cones at one another. and the floor is lava game, and the quiet game, and the games i play with my coworkers that are just words and retention. and "put a finger down" on the high school bus. and little girls clapping together, and how the first jump-rope was undoubtedly just a length of rope who knows how long ago, and how natural it is to play, how we seek play at every age and with any resources we have and with whatever time we can squeeze it into in a day. i'm not an anthropologist or a psychologist but i think after food and shelter and water and air what comes next is games and stories and laughter. i think that there is nothing -- not sex or fighting or forming unlikely bonds with animals -- there is nothing more human than to play.
