People don't like to admit it bcs cringe or w/e but Homestuck really did revolutionize the webcomic as a storytelling medium and I am endlessly frustrated that before webcomic artists could really stretch our legs fucking webtoonz swooped in, set a new, more restrictive standard, and then monetized and monopolized the ever living fuck out of the concept of The Webcomic until it drove away anyone who couldn't be a professional quality manga artist for free, and now the only webcomics that actually feel like spiritual successors to Homestuck are so obscure they're basically cult classics that you have to beg people to read.

Like it's just so wild to be in high school and see Homestuck be like "we're using like fifteen different artistic mediums to tell this story bcs we can" and be really fucking inspired by that, only to grow up and see basically every webcomic ever have to conform to One Single Standard or fucking perish.

especially since their superficial traits are what they probably think their fans / friends see of them, so you can explore how the people closest to them who see past their superficiality (e.g. like rei and adonis' conversation where rei is surprised that adonis could tell when he was depressed) and know that the AI aren't the real deal, just shallow copies 🥺 and we could get what you were talking about, the members of undead talking to their old selves and showing them that their actions were negative coping mechanisms and were making them miserable in the long run. the AI had so much potential!!

i love the scene of adonis noticing that rei was depressed post-crossroads and all the discussions of adonis being particularly clever / observant throughout the story... it really hammers home the adonis and rei parallels. both emotionally intelligent people who feel othered and who are driven by their love for humans and desire to help even strangers to the point of self sacrifice. the major differences between them are caused by adonis' crippling self esteem (which is something he's slowly but surely learning to improve) and rei being treated like a god (something that's also changing as rei allows himself to be fallible)

for most characters, their character color is the same as their hair color. for some characters, such as hajime and niki, it is their eye color. there are only five exceptions to this rule — yuuta and hinata, whose colors reference the colors they've chosen to differentiate themselves; midori and chiaki, whose colors reference their roles as ryuusei green and red; and rei, for no obvious reason. why purple? if anything, wouldn't it make more sense for his color to be black or dark red? on the surface, rei appears to have no connection to the color dark purple. however, looking deeper, the answer becomes obvious. otogari adonis—
