all your stuffed animals love you. they're not sad if they're in a box, or on the floor, or not held/played with as much. they understand. they know that you might need another stuffie more, or that you don't have enough space. they're just happy to be with you, and if you ever give them away, they'll be happy there too. stuffies are for comfort. they understand. they love you too. it's okay.

it’s almost as if words and phrases have taken on whole new sub-meanings. Symbolisms. Strung together, they convey meanings all too common far faster.

Some examples:

-Caffeine: an unhealthy relationship with work, sleep deprivation (which itself can be a subtle pointer at one’s poor mental state)

-Hydrate/drink water: to care for someone, a shorthand to show affection of any kind

And our brains are already hardwired to process as such. Like we don’t need a dictionary on what some things may mean, usually, it’s just a vibe (vibe: general feel of something as well as how good/bad it is perceived).

To add on, these submeanings are so commonly used that if you don’t get it life gets so much harder, I’ve noticed. but yeah just something I wanted to point out that I realised in an aha moment that words are weird nowadays

How to Use the Universal Translator - Registering a New Language

(this is a long post, but it’s my interpretation on how a ‘universal translator’ without mind reading software would actually work. Hope this helps you in some way!)

How to use the Universal Translator - Registering a New Language

First, prepare an object the target would be curious towards. It is recommended to use either the device the Translator software is on itself, but that may not elicit too much curiosity from civilisations with similar levels or types of technology. You may also use this as an opportunity to familiarise the target with equipment or items you will use later on, like medical supplies or transport.

Next, begin speaking, signing, or gesturing at the object, though they currently cannot understand you. Keep the Translator on Recording mode, and depending on how the target appears to communicate, switch between Audio/Visual modes as necessary (more modes will be added in the next update.) The aim is to provoke the target into asking, “What’s that”, or something similar/equivalent. When you believe the target has communicated such a phrase, select the phrase (now without the need to directly playback! Use the Translator’s in-built intelligent phrase detection system to select entire syllables, snippets, and cut out the hassle!), double-check, and select Save > New Language, where the phrase will automatically be saved in the first slot and labelled appropriately.

Now, switch to Replay mode. Using the recorded phrase, you can now ask what their word for certain things are. For example, you could point to them (be aware to not appear aggressive) to learn how they refer to themselves. You could also point to an object they do not know of and ask them how they would refer to that; which would likely give you a way to say ‘I don’t know’.

Remember to swap to Recording mode and to labelled saved phrases with your best guess!

Eventually, you should have a rudimentary way to communicate; barring that, a way to learn to communicate. Meanwhile, the Translator software will be cross-referencing and searching for patterns in the saved phrases to find individual words or the rules of the language.

Update: Grammar can now be mostly inferred after one hour of total saved phrases! Switch to Catalog mode to find all the inferences made (now with the ability to sort between grammar, repeated words detected, etc.!)

With luck, you will be able to communicate peacefully and clearly with the target. Hope you enjoy using the Universal Translator software!

Please be aware that due to the amendments made to the Knowledge Pooling for the Benefit of All (KPftBoA), the language file will be made public on the Universal Translator’s database once an actual language is detected. This is not opt-in. Thank you!

’life isn’t fair!’

yeah, but isn’t it kind of our life purpose as humans to try and make it more fair? If this unfairness can’t be controlled that’s one thing, but if you give a child four snacks and the other none then explain it as ‘life isn’t fair’ well no, that’s still on you, because you had the power to make it fair. It was in your control. life isn’t fair as justification for intentional unjust actions is stupid.

Seen A Couple Posts On The Dashboard Lately About Writing With ADHD. So, For The ADHD And Neurodivergent

Seen a couple posts on the dashboard lately about writing with ADHD. So, for the ADHD and neurodivergent folks who like writing but struggle sometimes… check out StimuWrite.

You can set it to make little sounds as you type (or leave them off), and emojis pop up in the corner. You can change the background, dark and light themes, set your word goal, and it gives you a percentage and total word count at the bottom. Though it’s more meant for getting a draft written up, so it doesn’t have spell check or anything like that. You’re meant to just copy and past what you write here into Google Docs or Word or Scrivener or whatever else you use and go from there. Honestly love it when I’m struggling to get words down, though. And apparently there’s an update now for StimuWrite 2?👀

Anyways, give it a try if it looks like it may help. It’s currently name-your-own-price.

on the subject of control

People can only be truly happy in the two extremes of control: either total control or none at all.

think about it. you gain access to one thing, total say in what one thing does, you’ll want control over more. What it creates, what creates it, what it does. And that leads to wanting more and more and more and there’ll always be that thread of dissatisfaction, no matter how small, until you get absolute control over everything.

on the flip side, complete lack of control means absolute peace. A state of non-existence because you don’t even have control over yourself, your thoughts, your emotions, thereby reducing you to nothing. So since you don’t exist, you are both the happiest you can possibly be and not at the same time, because ‘you’ don’t exist.

and since nobody will ever have full control over everything, everyone will always have that thread of dissatisfaction. we also all want this level of control, but it will never exist so long as there are other living beings. which could also be a way of saying as long as other living, thinking things exist we will never get over that small thread.

Or maybe it’s just me and my melodramatic brain making everything philosophical who knows.
