Lucy Gray has always had a natural talent for turning her pain into poetry and her poetry into music and, through it, leading herself towards healing.
However, it seems impossible for her to do this with the Hunger Games, with what happened to her in the arena. The only song she has ever produced on the subject is actually the love song she composed for Coryo, and only to thank him for saving her.
Her nightmares therefore have no way of changing.
In her nightmares, the huge shrine shatters and a shower of colorful snakes is immediately enveloping her. Lucy Gray sings, and sings, but her voice fails, and her words become garbled, and she forgets the lyrics. She knows she will be bitten if she stops singing. She also knows that she has lost, that her tongue twists in her dry mouth, and that she can do nothing more to stop the inevitable.
She wakes every time with a gasp - she cannot scream, with her throat so closed - and then is unable to go back to sleep, even when her heart stops hammering in her chest.
For a long time she thought she would never get rid of the nightmare. She cannot face it with music, so how can she transform it and let it go?
It is Coryo who suggests the idea to her one day. Or rather, it is Coryo who takes her to visit the reptile house, after asking for her consent, of course.
Lucy Gray goes through the snake cabinets, admires them and reads all the cartouches, and is fascinated. She knows. She knows that snakes were once her friends. She knows that she too used them to attack.
She convinces Coryo to convert a room in the house into a reptile house. She starts buying and collecting snakes; she studies everything she needs to take the best care of them. She even goes as far as breeding them, researching rare colors.
Most of those snakes are harmless, innocent ; she can pick them up without any drama, she often lays them on her shoulders - she adorns herself with them - and trots around the house with them.
Some, however, are poisonous, to be handled with care. They are the ones she sings for, they are the ones she must learn to love. They are the ones from which she extracts the poison for her Coriolanus. Lucy Gray does not ask - she no longer asks - but she knows. She has decided to make her peace with it.
The Hunger Games no longer exist, after all, and she is convinced that the main push for this was the mysterious death of Dr. Gaul, which surely occurred because of some experiment gone wrong in her lab.
Slowly, as weeks turn into months and months become years, her recurring nightmare also changes. The rainbow-coloured snakes are always enveloping her, and she loses her voice... But, now Lucy Gray knows, they will never hurt her. She surrenders, Lucy Gray, as the hard stone beneath her back turns into a soft mattress, and the carpet of snakes spiraling above her becomes a blanket of sheets, ready to protect her. To make her feel safe.
After all, as long as the snakes are with her, no one can touch her. Not Mayor Lipp, dead now for years, and not the politics of Capitol City, who continue to see her as a District savage who has corrupted the good name of the Snows.
Lucy Gray is quiet and serene as she learns to sleep protected by snakes.
And, when she opens her eyes and turns her head, emerging into the world, she realizes that the only real, living snake always sleeps beside her: Coriolanus Snow, president of all Panem and her future husband, who always keeps his promise to protect her and save her from all evil and turns the nightmare into a wonderful dream.

When she tells him a spooky story, things take a turn when Coriolanus wonders if the story is more than just a myth, his feelings for the girl made complicated when he makes a decision to protect her.

It's that time again!
The prompt for today is birds u.ù
As usual, thanks to @snowbaird-events ( @burntblueberrywaffles ) for this event 💖
During the summer break, after he has been forced to work hand in hand with Dr Gaul on the new edition of the Hunger Games, Coriolanus has asked and been granted to spend the summer at Twelve. President Ravinstill has made the first house built in the Victory’s village available to him also because, in fact, he is taking Lucy Gray home to see her family.
Lucy Gray shakes his hand throughout the train journey, without saying anything.
She too knows that the Hunger Games are an evil he is forced to endure, but there is a limit even to his acting ability.
***
In the Twelve everything is better. They are no longer at the Seam - although coal dust still gets everywhere - and the Coveys have huddled together, happy and excited to have Lucy Gray back for a month and a half all to themselves. They have moved into the Victory’s house with them - although they take turns not to leave their house empty - and spend their days together, as happy and carefree as they have ever been.
The schools are closed and none of them have to work. Coriolanus personally makes sure that plenty of money arrives every month to support the whole family, because the idea of CC or Tam Amber going down the mine gives him the creeps.
They spend wonderful days amidst music, singing and games, and then the time also comes for a trip to the lake.
They talked about it briefly, him and Lucy Gray. Coriolanus told her that it would be no problem and, then, following her glare, confessed that he would do his best to overwrite the bad memories.
So they set off early in the morning, taking advantage of the still cool breeze of the night before the sun burns them. They walk briskly; Coriolanus grasps Lucy Grey's hand tightly and tries to concentrate on Maude Ivory's voice and the songs she sings.
Unfortunately, so do the damn birds.
Coriolanus is forced to listen to their echoes in his ears for as long as it takes for them to arrive. There are times when he thinks he'll go mad, when he just wants to squat on the ground and plug his ears - echoes and reverberations of that terrible day, of the song of the hanging tree smashing his head and shattering it into tiny pieces.
When it happens Lucy Gray understands him, and always distracts him with a kiss.
Her smile and her love are the most valuable weapon he has to fight every crisis.
***
They finally arrive.
At last they can undress and dive into the lake and make noise, and the birds above their heads, apart from a few neutral melodies, no longer sing like in his nightmares.
It's shaping up to be a perfect day.
They soak for the whole morning and then engage in various other activities and games - Coriolanus has brought a real ball and a pack of cards, and everyone enjoys themselves.
Then, after lunching on fish - caught by Tam Amber and CC - and bread and cheese - brought from home - they all lie down in the shade of the trees, praying that it will be enough to combat the heat.
Lucy Gray has laid her head on his chest and has one leg entwined with his. It seems that not even the mugginess is enough to keep them physically apart , and Coriolanus is perfectly fine with that. He caresses her hair and she begins to murmur a quiet melody.
Immediately the Mockingjay stop singing, and then imitate her. Coriolanus' hand stops and so does Lucy Gray, raising her face to his, worried.
“Sorry,” she murmurs.
Coriolanus smiles.
"It's not your fault" he replies to her "Nor theirs" he adds, under his breath.
Holding her still helps him keep his mind clear of terrible memories. The tiredness and peace that pervaded him that morning also help to keep him calm.
Lucy Gray smiles and leans in to leave a small kiss on his cheek.
"They are the true example of freedom, you know?"
"The Mockingjay?"
"No, birds in general. I'd like to be like them" Lucy Gray pauses "That's what they call me at the capital, isn't it? Songbird. I wish I had a pair of wings, and I could live and sing in the sky for the rest of my life."
Away from me.
Coriolanus turns to her and grabs her, sinking his face into her hair.
"I'm sorry," he tells her, as his heart breaks for the umpteenth time, "If you feel trapped at home.
If I'm not enough.
Lucy Gray bursts out laughing and returns his squeeze.
"I didn't say that, silly."
Coriolanus knows that he cannot afford to make demands on her. He knows that Lucy Gray is a free spirit, and that trying to force her into a trap would lead to her dying little by little, day by day. At the capital, she expresses her need for freedom by singing all over the place; she enjoys her fame as the Victor to have the doors open in any club that tickles her fancy. And Coriolanus has learnt to let her go and hush the terrible, insistent voice that tells him she will find someone else.
But here it is more difficult.
Here, in the Twelve, it is established that Lucy Gray belongs to no one.
Least of all to him.
Coriolanus hopes that it will be enough to keep showing her love day by day, to make her stay.
***
University has been going on for a fortnight when one afternoon Coriolanus comes home and Tigris announces that Lucy Gray is waiting for him in the roof garden.
Curious, after hurriedly changing his clothes, Coriolanus goes up and is stunned when he sees, in the middle of the rose garden, a huge aviary.
It is a wonderful cage, gilded and decorated with wrought-iron roses. It has inside it a lot of small bowls with grains at different heights, others with water, and various bird handles as well as hanging cuttlefish bones.
And the birds are there. Some are hopping on sticks, some have decided to take a bath, some are eating. They hum, but the wonderful melody he hears is that of Lucy Gray, standing in front of the aviary enchanting the birds.
Coriolanus, past the first moment of surprise, approaches and embraces her from behind, interrupting her song.
That is the moment when he realizes that the aviary has no little door, that the birds can come and go as they please.
Lucy Gray raises her head, staring up at him from below with a huge smile.
"There are no Mockingjay here," she tells him, "No bad memories. But, you see? Even in the city the little birds live ".
At that moment two of them come out of their cage with a shake of their wings and disappear into the sky.
"This is a safe place. With food, water, fun and fragrant flowers," Lucy Gray continues, "A home to come back to again and again. A safe choice."
You are my safe choice , Lucy Gray is telling him, the place I want to return to.
Coriolanus smiles and spins her around in his arms until they are facing each other. He leans towards her and kisses her passionately, and she reciprocates by sinking her hands into his blond curls.
Her. Lucy Gray.
His wonderful songbird.
Who chooses him day after day, never leaving him alone again.

Second day second prompt: rose
I want to thank @kpchrs for the first idea, then @burntblueberrywaffles who has create the event and then I tag the @snowbaird-events as usual u.ù
He has never understood the tradition of staying away for a full three weeks before the wedding.
The lack of Lucy Gray burns in a spiral of emotions that borders on paranoia, even though he knows she is perfectly safe and happy - with Tigris and Persephone in District One, pampered and pampered and immersed in what the girls call an 'intensive beauty treatment'.
Of course, his job as President allows him enough distraction... And, in his spare moments, he works on the secret project he only shared with Clemmy, to get her to help him out.
It all came about by chance. One day, while working in the rose garden with Grandma’am, he remembered their first meeting and wanted to taste a rose petal.
Puah!
The memory still makes him sick. So much for bedtime! Roses smell good but taste horrible .
So he decided to create a truly edible variety that would do justice to their aroma. Clemmy, who is also his personal secretary at work, got involved in the project in her spare time - and theirs turned out to be yet another winning partnership.
After all, she was the first to process his precious poisons with him.
Days slip by between them as the date approaches and, in the end, he has just enough time to make a shrub of red, edible roses bloom before the big day.
He instructs the pastry chefs and instructs the florist.
Everything is perfect for the surprise.
***
Lucy Gray strides through the garden bewitching everyone. Her wedding dress is a riot of light and color; he does not know what fabric Tigris sewed it with, but it is marvelous. The bodice is iridescent and is decorated with several colorful hand-stitched roses. It ends with a long white skirt that shimmers in the sun, soft as a cascade of fresh snow.
She wears a veil. He finds it a curious choice but, after all, Lucy Gray and Tigris know what they are doing. The comb of the veil is hooked under the elegant bun with which her hair has been gathered, and swirls of white tulle descend to the floor, mingling with the train of her dress.
Moreover, Lucy Gray is barefoot.
He immediately understands the reference: Lucy Gray, the little girl who was lost in the snow, has found her home in the snow.
Soon they will be a family. Coriolanus's heart beats fast in his chest as Tam Amber - doing the voices of her father - leads her before him and intertwines their hands.
They both stand under an arch of white roses and there become husband and wife.
When the ceremony ends, when they have exchanged rings and the first kiss and had the toasting, Lucy Gray looks for Tigris in the front rows and she nods to her. As Festus hands Coriolanus one of the special red roses, she brings a hand to her head and unhooks the comb of her veil, causing it to fall back to the floor, and turns to precede him down the aisle.
Coriolanus holds his breath, abrupt and surprised.
On Lucy Gray's back, naked, is tattooed a beautiful rose bush, studded with many different roses of all the colors of the rainbow.
So she. So them.
Roses, one of the meeting points of their love.
Lucy Gray turns to him and smiles, then grabs his hand, dragging him behind her.
They reach the end of the row of chairs, trampling the petals scattered on the lawn, and before the crowd can catch up with them, Coriolanus turns her towards him and hands her the red rose.
"Welcome to the family, Lucy Gray Baird Snow."
She giggles, her eyes bright, and as he had planned she plucks a petal from the rose, bringing it to her tongue. And when she swallows she bursts out laughing again, delighted.
"We almost had the same idea!" she exclaims, before the guests join them in congratulations.
Coriolanis squeezes Lucy Gray's waist and thanks and smiles and is happy, really happy, so happy that he thinks his heart will explode. He does not know if it is made to contain so much happiness all at once.
***
They toast and then the cake is brought under the gazebo lit by many small hanging lights - a copy of the stars in the sky above them. Coriolanus has ordered and obtained that all of Capitol City be in darkness that night, to allow him and Lucy Gray to seal their pact of love under the stars.
The cake is large and colorful, multi-storeyed. Every decorative rosebud is edible.
In a final exchange of promises Lucy Gray grabs two of the little flowers and hands him one. No need to speak because her cunning expression says it all. They feed each other that little taste of rose and then both burst out laughing as the guests applaud their love.
***
It is not the last rose he tastes that night.
Coriolanus immerses himself in the perverse pleasure it causes him to lick every single rose drawn on Lucy Gray's back while she, quiet and relaxed after making love, simply lies on her stomach in the unmade bed, her head abandoned on her crossed arms.
They may not taste as delicate as the roses he produced in the lab - but they taste of Lucy Gray and her skin, and that's enough to make him want to taste them all.
