it had been a few months now since you started being lily’s babysitter, growing closer and closer with the little girl with each passing day; she absolutely adored you!

art noticed this of course, keeping a close eye on you whenever he’d see you with lily, the sight of you doing the most mundane things making his heart swell, as well as something else.

“lil’s c’mon you’re going to be late for practice,” you hummed, chewing the inside of your cheek as you looked down at your watch; every second day lily had ballet practice, her recital coming up in a few days.

the familiar strut of tashi’s strong steps pulled you from your thoughts, lifting your eyes from your watch and humming in acknowledgment when she called your name.

“you’re going to lily’s recital, yes?” she asked, sparing you a glance before going to her open laptop, looking at something before looking back up at you.

“yeah yeah why?” you asked, brows furrowed in curiosity.

“patrick’s got a tournament that i need to be at, so i wont be able to make it, and i just wanted to be sure she’d at least have you there,” she murmurs, closing her laptop as she now completely focused on you.

you nodded, “yeah no of course, wouldn’t miss it for the world, i’ll take plenty of videos for you,” you smiled sweetly, your eyes falling to lily walking out of her room with her pink leotard on, art walking besides her as she giggled at something he said.

your gaze lingered on him, almost completely forgetting his wife was talking to you. “good, art’s going to be there, so you won’t have to be alone with all those pretentious mother’s surrounding you,” she joked, leaning down to say goodbye to lily.

your mind lingered on her words, snapping into a daze as you mulled over them, completely missing the slight twinkle in her eyes as she said it, only snapping from your thoughts when lily tugged on your skirt.

“okay missy let’s you get you to class or else teacher nadine is gonna wring my neck out!” you joked, tickling lily’s side as you ushered the little girl to the door, casting one more look over your shoulder at art, his eyes catching yours before you quickly looked away, taking a deep breath as you tried to focus your attention on the task at hand; getting lily to ballet practice on time.

her recital day had soon come up, washing your hands off in her bathroom sink after you’d done her hair, smoothing the front down and securing her bun before turning her to face the mirror.

“thank youuuuu,” she yelled out, smiling at you through the mirror, her smile alone warming your cheeks.

“okay you got everything?” you asked, sending her off to check her bag once more as you freshened yourself up, running a hand through your hair, before smoothing down the front of your dress before following after lily.

you held your breath as you watched art emerge from his and tashi’s room, black shirt clinging to his rippling muscles, the sight making your head spin, knees buckling as he walked past you, the scent of his cologne alone arousing you.

“you nervous honey?” he asked lily, the little girl shaking her head, “atta girl,” he responded, your nails digging into your palm as a way to ground yourself once more.

you all found yourselves in their garage, art lifting lily to place her in her car seat, strapping her in before closing the door, swiftly making his way to the passenger side and holding the door open for you, his bottom lip tugged between his teeth as he watched you overthink his gesture; you were perfectly fine with sitting in the back with lily, but if he insisted.

you slid into the passenger seat, your hands in your lap as he closed the door after you, making his way to the drivers side to get in himself, casting the quickest glance to the skin of your thighs peeking out from the skirt of your dress riding up.

this was going to be a long ride.

once you arrived you both bid your goodbye’s to lily, wishing her luck with a kiss to her cheek, before she scurried off with the rest of the girls in her class, joining their teacher back stage.

now it was just you and art.

you felt his hand lightly graze your lower back, guiding you to your seats. it was hard for art not to notice just how perfectly his hand fit in the small of your back, almost like two puzzle pieces clicking together, almost as if you were made for him and only him.

once you found your seats you fell in an easy conversation with art, even cracking a joke or two with him, his smile alone sending a kaleidoscope of butterflies to your stomach; you were so obsessed with seeming perfect around him, always wanting to do your best, you hadn’t noticed just how easy it was to be yourself around him, and not this straight faced—totally-not-blushing-persona you carried.

you kept your promise to tashi, taking tons of pictures and videos of lily once she did her performance. tashi constantly lingered in the back of your mind, a nagging reminder making sure to reel you back in when you found yourself swooning over art too much.

you were so lost in watching the little girl you’ve grown so fond of dance onstage, you hadn’t noticed art’s thigh pressed into yours, his warmth radiating through his jeans and into your skin, the contact feeling almost normal.

the second her performance was over she rushed over to the two of you, art lifting her into his arms as he congratulated her, kissing her cheeks before she begged to go to you, leaning down to hug her to your chest.

“you did amazing out there lil’s! i’m so so proud of you angel,” you laughed, smiling from ear to ear as you listened to her gush about how exciting this was for her.

this was another one of those moments art watched closely, committing the sight to memory, holding it dear to his heart.

in a flash she scurried off to a few friends of her’s, hopping around like an energizer bunny, once again leaving you and art alone, well until one of those “pretentious mom’s” tashi had warned you about, tapped your shoulder, your brows raising in acknowledgment, smiling at the woman.

“hi i’m dianne, your daughter was absolutely beautiful on that stage, i mean she’s absolutely made for this! you two must be so proud,” she spoke, looking between you and art. your eyes widened at her words and the implications of them; your daughter? she thought lily was yours? and so she must’ve thought art was your husb—

“oh that’s very kind of you but i’m n—“ before you could finish your sentence, art’s voice cut you off, speaking to dianne over your shoulder, his chest just so slightly brushing against your shoulder, “yeah we are,” he spoke faintly, nose crinkling as he smiled.

you swore you felt your heart jump from your chest, mind going into overdrive, reminding yourself you had to breathe. why wouldn’t he let you correct her? why wouldn’t he correct her himself? why would he be fine with someone thinking you were his wife and the mother of his child? why? why? why?

your mind was racing a mile a minute, racking your brain to come up with reasonable answers to your questions because surely there had to be some? right?

art noticed of course, your reaction egging him on, the reddening of your cheeks making him smirk.

oh you were so done for.
