Bouncing off of OP, my favorite part about this scene is that these two morons (affectionate) did it while surrounded by people who've Drifted before/work entirely around the Drift and managing neural handshakes, so they ALL 100% picked up on OP's thoughts, too.
This might be one of my favourite scenes of anything ever cause it’s so blindly obvious how connected they are after the drift!!!! The way they carry this speech - it doesn’t sound at all like two separate people with separate thoughts, this is ONE thought, ONE message and it is bouncing between them speaking so effortlessly. It’s so different to how they talk together earlier on in the film - they don’t cut each other off or argue or talk over each other, the sentences flow between the both of them like they’re one person. It’s honestly amazing to hear two people sound so incredibly connected
Do y’all ever wonder if Dutch and Hosea knew they were going to raise an absolute UNIT like Arthur? Like he was once a skinny and rambunctious 14 year old street orphan and they took a chance on him and fed him as he grew into a fucking BEAST who is arguably bulkier than the two of them combined, and has become the main brawn of the gang.
This is basically just an Arthur Physique appreciation post but GOD DAMN.
he was just hangry yall it’s fine now

Hi! Your blog has been a big help as I’ve been diversifying my cast of characters. I have a couple quick questions about a character who I initially envisioned as white but recently decided to make Mexican:
1) Would it be negative stereotyping to have their family be poor/have them be working to help support their family? I wanted to emphasize the pressure they feel to be an adult (with having them forced into a lot of responsibility) and intend to have their family members be well-rounded, but realize this may be a harmful portrayal. Anything in particular to avoid if I do go that road?
2) They’re bilingual (Spanish and English) but speak Spanish around the house/with family and some friends, when given a choice would it be reasonable for them to prefer reading/watching TV in Spanish over English? (Specifically, if they were watching anime that would have to be translated either way and could find a good Spanish sub, would it be reasonable for them to prefer that to an English sub?)
Thanks for all the great work you do with the blog, good luck continuing!
The fact of your Mexican character being poor is not what constitutes the potential stereotype; the execution of the character’s poverty is what constitutes the potential stereotype.
If the family is poor due to … - Having so many mouths to feed that you gotta stretch every dollar - Having an alcoholic in the family who sucks down the paychecks And/Or - Having a lazy family member who isn’t pulling their weight
Then change the reason why the family is poor because you would otherwise have needlessly touched on the stereotypes of Mexicans Bang Like Rabbits, Mexicans Are Alcoholics, and/or Mexicans Are Lazy.
You can emphasize a lot of pressure on someone to be an adult through means which are not poverty, like amping up the pressure of whatever the character has to do in the plotline to Save The Day, editing your cast of characters and making the MC take on their responsibilities. I honestly would prefer and recommend that you come up with alternative means to put pressure on your MC because seriously, when you see the same thing over and over and over again it just … It doesn’t HURT? But it doesn’t HELP either.
Everybody has preferences and this includes language preferences; I don’t see why they WOULDN’T have language preferences and them leaning towards Spanish is perfectly fine. I don’t understand why it would be a problem, honestly. What are you afraid it would suggest if you had a Mexican designating Spanish as their preferred language?

would writing a character with sight in only one eye have differences from writing an abled person?
Yes. The character would experience issues with depth perception and limited visual field. They could still drive, could still have good aim, but it wouldn't come as naturally to them as someone who has both eyes to map out distance and angle.
Losing an eye is a type of amputation, and the cause/event might be traumatic or emotionally difficult to talk about. Or they might be the gallows humor type and making jokes about it left, right, and center.
Prosthetic eyes require maintenance and care the same way any mobility aid or prosthesis does. That's a step of daily care that fully sighted people will never experience.
Some people choose unusual, non-matching prosthetic eyes for fun the same way someone might choose colored contacts. Others choose not to wear a prosthetic eye.
