I like to think Alan/The Animator would be similar to Discord in the mlp show. He’s basically his own set of entity outside of reality. In his early days he enjoyed tormenting his creations and creating them in his image.

The Color Gang were only supposed to be “hit” by the staff’s special effects, so, MT “fought” with the staff using full force. Only when the script asks for physical hits does MT pull fake punches.
