Funny how my top two GSR fics are named the same thing, but hey, they're both amazing. I was apprehensive because of the "calling Soap Roach by accident" trope, however they really diverted my expectations and made these three really feel like equals in a relationship. Really love how they made sure to establish a strong dynamic between Soap and Roach instead of pitting them against each other. And Roach isn't just some 2D character here, he's very nuanced and I love it!

It’s realistic and relatable and so beautifully written that it makes people physically emotional over it. It’s about Penny, about her history with bullying and how she was forced to take things into her own hands. It’s about Arven, who grew up with a distant parent, who nearly lost his best friend in an attempt to get said parent back, who can’t help but feel contempt for the creature that caused his parent’s disappearance. It’s about Miraidon and Koraidon, who was involved in a territorial dispute so violent and vicious that it lost its caretaker and any ability to fight, who had to flee from the only place it could call home and has such bad memories associated with it that it’s triggering. It’s about the Professor—the AI Professor, who worked alongside their creator, who discovered that maybe the things they were working so hard towards were wrong, who had to witness said creator pass away, who had to continue on with that legacy and battle with their own programming to do the right thing. It’s about losing a parent, one that might not be classified as a “good” parent, yet it’s still painful. It’s about actually addressing that death and what it means and why it happened. It’s about all of these kids and these Pokemon coming together to break through that trauma with their own strength, through their trust, through the raw belief they have in each other. It’s about friendship.
