Lesser-known steps of the writing process:
Finding all the paragraphs where you used some hyper-specific word more than once
Rearranging paragraphs that you swear you wrote in the right order but turned out to be totally backwards
Going for a walk, coming up with the perfect line, and forgetting it as soon as you get home and open your laptop
Creating a separate document where you can dump all of those nice sentences that no longer fit in anywhere
Waking up in a cold sweat because so-and-so was supposed to be barefoot but never actually took his shoes off
Me: I am going to stick to just one story idea. No more changing. No more abandoning half baked ideas. No more distractions. I will be focused. I will finish a project.
New idea:
Draft 1: Trash.
Draft 2: Slightly better trash.
Draft 3: Compacted and recycled trash.
Final draft: *iconic trash.
Being ace in fandoms is so awkward sometimes because yeah the allos like the irredeemably evil villain who has murdered countless innocent people and experiments on children because he's conventionally attractive, what's my excuse? I realised that plot holes are only holes because you keep forgetting to repair them. If you actually sew them up with a bunch of made up shit occasionally, then they won't get so big. I somehow made my world building make sense by just adding reasons why its like that.
Why doesn't anyone know about the other plains of the dodecahedron? well obviously it's because everyone thinks you just fall off the edge and whatever you see after that is The After Life. You know, folklore and totally not a complete plot hole with an half arsed explanation slapped on top.
Sometimes writing is setting your fingers on fire trying to keep up with what your brain is creating.
...Then sometimes it's banging your head against the keyboard and hoping the result is better than what's on the page.
