“A real professional, huh?” A smirk graced his lips but Beau didn’t take his eyes off the mentioned jewel in the case. He didn’t care so much for authenticity aside from it being something that would last long. Even in his old age he’d never thought to particularly go for something pricey, it was all about the aesthetic. And frankly, he was a sucker for garnets to begin with. Anything deep in color, rubies, moonstone, that kind of thing had always attracted him. The mentioned piece was definitely ticking all of his boxes, there wasn’t much need for this guy to talk it up, he had eyes. But still, he could appreciate an artisan, somebody who knew what they were talking about. Straightening, he crossed his arms over his chest and just looked at the tired looking man. That festival must have really done a number on him, he wasn’t surprised. Everyone seemed a little worse for wear. Which was truly a pity, he was being robbed of so many attractive faces due to lack of sleep.

Not like that ever really deterred him.

But still.

Supposed he was, though the incubus wasn’t sure if that’s what he would actually call himself. Skilled, maybe. Trained enough to know the difference between a fake and an item that was actually real, letting the word professional hang in the air. Silas almost liked it, only having heard his father’s clients say those kinds of words but never to him. He had always been the apprentice or looked at as a rookie, someone that tried to sell clutter instead of genuine products and worked hard to drive a wedge between that outlook. Instead of boasting, Silas simply shrugged and continued to unlock the case. A click reverberated as the lock came loose and Silas pulled the ring out of the man to examine. It felt as though the two were meant for each other, the same kind of appeal and charm that complimented without seeming gaudy. “Suits you well,” he stated as a fact, a dreamy grin embellishing the dark circles that hung below his charcoal irises as fingertips passed the item over. Noticing the way the man’s eyes lit up as the ring was gently placed onto his finger, the incubus assumed there was no reason to place it back and started to lock up the cabinet again, “As if it was meant to be, so to speak.”

Kiera was proud of what she had achieved with KiKi’s. She often wished her father was still alive to see her open her own restaurant and succeed with it, but it wasn’t a possibility anymore, so she kept to just being proud on her own. “Yeah,” she confirmed, nodding a little. “It’s a small restaurant. I prepare all kinds of foods and change the menu every day. From Greek to Chinese you can get pretty much everything at my place. You should stop by some time.”

Kieratandanu‌:

“I will,” he stated firmly, making a note mentally that it was important. Supporting locals was a quality instilled in the cubi long before he had to call himself one, the Kyun family always doing their part however they could. Dining at small businesses that started from the ground, purchasing directly from artists instead of big chains, sticking with artisans had always led to a better community all around. “What’s on the menu tomorrow?” a genuine grin and interest in his tone.

Francisco didn’t find himself going to Knick Knack ever, but the frequent feeling of restlessness had him wandering there to see if Silas was okay. He couldn’t be the only one feeling like this, could he? Nevertheless, walking into the store, his eyes darted from trinket to trinket. Was this place often busy? There were a few people in there with him now, but he couldn’t imagine there were crowds of people waiting to buy something. It was nothing against Silas at all. After all, the incubus surely was the best of them all in terms of personality. People were better off running into Silas than they were running into Fran. He was more likely to leave them soulless than the other. Walking up to the other man, he let a smile reach his lips. “So…got any gifts and trinkets to sell me?”

Franciscoamore‌:

For the span of almost two weeks, Silas had been taking orders in masses for various masks and custom orders to the point that he had actually had to turn down quite a few. Festival season was always busy for the cubi, no matter the country he was in. Months prior had really been when he started prepping, but the recent weeks had made it extremely difficult to stay focused on the tasks at hand. The saving grace in this was a good majority of the pieces that were not special requests were ready for their finishing touches and Silas didn’t need to think much creatively. Though what he did reserve creatively speaking, the cubi made sure it was for those he considered closer to him — or just wanted to impress. “Nothing to sell,” charcoal hues moving from Fran to a section under the cashier desk, “Just to give.” A neatly wrapped package was gently set before them and Silas slid it towards the fellow cubi, “You know, for the festival.”

Ikaros sipped his drink idly as the man reached across the bar and left a tip, generous, considering that it was absolute free fall everywhere else. It would have been easy to drench the other man in a similar scene, see what was necessary to push him towards similar fits of madness but decided instead that he appreciated the man’s candor. He’d looked terrified but that was the only real sane reaction to the display that Ikaros was putting on, the kobalos had wanted his arrival in town to be defined. This worked well for that. Somehow he doubted that those who attended the bar on this particular Saturday night would ever forget the fit of madness that had overtaken them.

“Do you want to check?” Ikaros quirked a brow at Silas and canted his head in the direction of the bartender. He wasn’t about to go check himself, he also didn’t really know, if Ikaros had to guess, he’d say maybe a concussion. Someone fell from the second floor and crashed through a table not far behind Ikaros, as if to punctuate some bizarre display of scenic madness. Ikaros shook his head, as if in some display of disbelief, “This is a mad house, I’d be careful, there might be something in the water.”

A daunting smirk had crept onto Ikaros’ features as he turned to examine the display around him, the police would be here soon, the man would slip away quite soon after their arrival. Still, it was fun, and most of what these people had experienced was pleasurable. Though there was also pain, Ikaros always had to mix both. “You live in town?” Ikaros asked easily before he peppered in some easy lies, “I just got here, this isn’t what I was expecting.”

image

He immediately began to shake his head in disagreement. There wasn’t much the incubus really wanted to know beyond the necessary to get through the rest of this night without incident. Checking on the bartender, talking to a complete stranger— probably not the wisest choices in his lifetime. The more Silas knew of the whole situation, the more likely he would guilt himself into honesty if any questions arose on what he might have seen and he was close to his limit. But there was something magnetic about Ikaros that kept him still in his seat and wondering how this man seemed so untouched. Onyx hues darted towards the chaos that started to unfold behind Ikaros, a tightness forming in his chest, and turned his gaze back to the man’s haunting cerulean stare.

“Guess it's a good thing that this isn’t water,” he quipped, shaking his glass and trying his best to casually smirk back. Senses tingling more with each moment of being surrounded by all the manic energies. The bay had proven itself to be more than interesting when it came to the supernatural hub and that was hardly without notice from Silas, but everything felt so electrified. Sure, strange things were bound to happen when aligning with who sought legends and myths, though this was out of his realm. Each experience such as this only went to reminding him that he had yet to see and learn everything.

Bits of tension clung onto Silas shoulders and the question only added to his anxieties regarding the individual in the seat beside him. “Yeah, a few years now,” integrity, despite the burning in his gut that screamed at him to stay cautious and tread on the waters lightly, “I presume you are new in town then?”

“Sorry ‘boot that, probably didnae hear the notification over the noise.” Alright, game on, he wasn’t going to have to fend anyone off. Granted, he supposed he could always just take her out around the alley outside for a bite, she wouldn’t have needed much persuading with how she’d been borderline clinging to him. Jamie had some faith in this stranger to be interesting enough to make up for the loss. Hand kind of hovering against the stranger’s lower back, he ushered them through the small crowd to get to the bar where he promptly perched himself on an empty seat. The moment the bartender was within earshot, he was calling to him. “Whiskey sour, throw in a splash of red wine. And then whatever my dear friend here desires.” Elbows on the bar and fingers laced together, he shot the stranger a knowing smirk.

Now that he really got a chance to look at him beyond just yanking him from the crowd of people, he realized he was actually pretty attractive. There was a warmth about him, something about his eyes. Smelled nice, too. This night was definitely shaping up to be better already. The moment the bartender scurried off, he was resting his chin on his hands, completely enthralled in his new companion. “So what do ye do that ye smell so damn lovely? Didnae know they made a cologne that’s basically sawdust.”

image

Not as though this was the first time Silas had been in a similar situation, but typically being used as a scapegoat didn’t require him to continue the skit that long after the departure. Most would just thank him before both going their separate way or depending, the cubi might get a little snack and never see them again. It was all about the circumstances. Which, in truth, he did not someone such as the man in front of him to actually take interest in anything that had to do with Silas himself. People and creatures were full of surprises, not able to get a full read on what exactly the cubi was dealing with. A hunter, perhaps? But most of the time there was at least a different kind of— well, almost scent and that’s not what Silas was grabbing here.

He allowed the stranger to lead him towards the bar with the same grin as before, finding a seat next to him and ordering his own drink, “Seoul Mule, light ice.” Quick and to the point, obsidian hues floating from the bartender to the man that brought him over. Eyes were crystal blue to the point that they were almost haunting, eagerness that Silas hadn’t noticed until the moment they got cozy at the bar top. A chuckle fell from the cubi’s lips, leaning back slightly and brushing off his shirt. “Must still have bits on me,” he replied, looking down to see if anything was noticeable, “I do a lot of woodworking.”

Alexandros + Poseidon

Alexandros: Have there ever been repercussions to your actions you regret?I absolutely regret not fighting for my sister, Ri-na. Not being able to protect her when she needed it the most and not fighting with the Japanese for taking her. I can only imagine what her fate turned out to be and I should have been right there with her. Most might expect it to be my transition, but I know I still would have done it all over again.

Poseidon: Have you ever been so consumed in a task that you lost the reasoning behind it?Often with my art, yes. Wondering if each of these pieces actually make a difference or if I’m just unable to completely let go of the past. Yet— well, I guess I still create so not all is lost.

Do you like what you are?

Silas: Like is a very strong word. Accepted is probably the more accurate way of saying it and I don’t think I would go as far as saying I hate what I am either. I have become something for a reason, even if it was completely out of ignorance and eventually I will understand the depth of it all.

Gabriel had made his way around the store to stand by Silas finally, tilting his head a little bit more at the snark that exited his friend’s mouth. The other incubus was soft; a kinder spirit than Gabriel had ever met in his entire existence. And that existence was being reminded to him, again. “Oh, so he’s got jokes.” Gabriel huffed out a laugh, shoving Silas lightly, “Unbelievable. I offer you my friendship, my wisdom with all my age, and you just – throw it back at me. Forget it. I’m going to steal the tea recipes and then I’m going to blame you.”

image

“Alright, see you in about thirty minutes,” the fellow cubi kept the smirk firmly planted on his face as Gabriel attempted to psych him out. Silas wasn’t exactly sure if he really needed another with him in order to do the deed, but assumed another set of hands was probably necessary. Either that or another set of eyes. Regardless, he was involved now for better or worse. “Maybe you can support the bookstore across the street while you wait. I’m sure there is something you haven’t seen yet.”

Though she only knew Silas for a brief amount of time in a customer-business owner type relationship, the witch was immediately drawn to him upon their first meeting and as time progressed, she found herself more and more attached. Something about him was endearing, and admittedly he was one of the most gentle people she knew. At his placations, the witch smiled sympathetically and nodded a little, content to drop the subject at his insistence despite her worry. “Okay, well… um, if you need anything, you can always call me, okay? I can bring you food or something if you don’t want to go out or you want some quiet company,” she offered.

“Anyway… um, I’ve got these. I tried not to bring too much because I didn’t know how much space you had available and I wasn’t sure how fast these would sell,” she explained as she turned the metal crane in her hand. The flat surfaces were unnaturally perfect, which was a hallmark of her ability as a metal manipulator. Where other metalworkers needed to polish their work, Lena could simply will it into existence, in a manner of speaking. It required years of practice, of course, but now metal bent to her will so easily that she hardly required thought to do more simplistic things. “I don’t have like… business cards or anything. Do I need those?” she asked.

image

That was one of the things he treasured about Lena, among the slew of other qualities about her that he held dear, she had a way of displaying unwavering compassion towards all things. A way of finding the light in all and giving even when she didn’t have to. “I’ll keep that in mind next time,” a warmth flooding his cheeks and holding onto his usual gentle grin, “Would beat the usual delivery services. A man can only eat so many takeaway gyros before he actually becomes one.” Though the incubus couldn’t exactly admit that after sleeping for twelve hours straight for five days in a row, what he starved for wasn’t anything that he wanted her to provide. Silas tried to snack on strangers, people that he didn’t know in his day to day life and could sever his empathy towards. But the quiet companionship would be more than delightful.

“No, not unless you would like to gain clients looking for commissions,” he stated, welcoming the change in topics and getting right back down to business, “If you are looking more to sell because you are inspired— I would say just leaving a trademark etching on your work is more than enough information for those who purchase them.” Simple advice, it wasn’t his place to tell someone how they should make their money or operate their trade. He could provide the platform for spreading the word about local artists that sought it out, maybe suggest things here and there, but anything more felt overbearing, “I think we have plenty of space for all you brought and I have plenty of items in the store that you can use as props to display them. Showcase them in an interesting way.”

So— He Hadn’t Seen Her Since The Festival. Unusual Given The Fact That Before That, Silas Had Spent

So— he hadn’t seen her since the festival. Unusual given the fact that before that, Silas had spent much of his time wandering into the tea shop where she worked. Lately, however, he actively made the choice to go inside the doors of their competition and hadn’t fully pinned down exactly why. Maybe it was because it all felt too different, they had seen each other outside of a work setting and could no longer call Ophelia just an acquaintance. His mind drifting towards the curiosity of how she might be doing and if she had, at all, noticed his absence. Not exactly a thought that he wanted to be caught in, but their little game of chess was intriguing and Silas couldn’t ignore the allure of the rootless ground. That’s why he found himself inside again, sitting at an antique table that was probably older than he was now and nursing a lukewarm tea. “How are you settling in?” he asked, filling the air with something other than the lingering silence between them.
