i don't wanna make a big thing of it but rq in regards to my vorona ramble my frustration towards a lot of the hate she gets is barely even about her "getting in the way" of shizaya (it's not 2012 anymore c'mon EVERYONE by now knows that's a very unserious reason). it just rubs me the wrong way that whenever a writer makes a poor narrative decision for a male character he's so easily forgiven "oh that was the writers fault" "the story did him so dirty" but in this case where it's a female character who's thrown into a poor narrative decision suddenly she's the one that gets completely blamed. i know this isn't the case for how some ppl feel about vorona's character, sometimes u just don't fw them and that's fine, but alarm bells do go off in my head a little icl.

i am her biggest defender like actually. like she's FAR from a perfect character and i can't deny the narrative did shove her around into stuff she didn't need to be involved in, but UGHHH i love her so so much.

me explaining that vorona's attachment to ikebukuro and shizuo in particular stems from her backstory that was shown to us in the anime. she grew up completely neglected by her father due to his line of work and the only time she ever felt like she won his affection and approval was when she committed a murder. it's why so much of her character revolves around a growing dilemma with violence; she sees it as a solution. it's all she was ever recognised as being good for and that's why she intervened during the ketsu fight (yes i understand frustration towards this narrative decision as it would have been a lot more satisfying to see the feud between shizuo and izaya be resolved by themselves).

but shizuo became someone she very quickly grew to care about because she saw him as the epitome of human violence, yet he taught her that it wasn't necessary. unlike everyone she grew up with, he encouraged against and resented his own violent tendencies, and admired and respected vorona as a person WITHOUT her needing to prove herself in such a way. i feel like people overlook this reason and brush it off as vorona getting too attached too quickly for the sake of ship bait, but if you take a moment to actually care about her past and her character as a whole you'll start to understand that her attachment was actually kind of realistic. shizuo and tom were some of the first people she ever met who approved of her without her needing to fight or kill, and the broken child in her never had this.

but because she grew up seeing herself as a mere weapon it's still ingrained in her instincts to use violence as a solution, which is why she stabs izaya during the fight before anything else: she saw someone important to her about about to throw their whole life away and had to resolve it. and remember to her, violence = the absolute solution. yes you can't use her past and trauma as an excuse for such a brash action but so many people just refuse to understand why. why she did something so out of the blue. you might dislike how shoehorned it was in the finale, sure, but in terms of her character, doing such a thing because she wants to save someone she has grown to actually care about, is so important to me.

you can dislike her role from a narrative standpoint because to a degree i do as well, and even after reading all this sure you can still dislike her, but it does still suck a little that so many ppl just opt to just completely ignore her as an individual with her own struggles and character arc. she's a genuinely interesting character and i adore how she plays off of the rest of the cast she interacted with TwT

anyways again dislike whoever u want but i do rlly like talking about her bc she tends to be so overlooked which is such a shame ;w;

i call her Reiko. in the canon timeline she's just a year younger than the raijin boys so this is her highschool design. she's what one would call a "chuunibyou" or someone with "eighth grader syndrome".

kichirou is the type of father that goes to his sons jobs (especially shizuo’s when he worked in service) like “haha im just a normal client passing by” and shizuo would b like “dad please stop embarrassing me i’m at work”

HE WOULD IM CRYING😭😭 and then imagine. like. shizuo's co-workers at the time don't realise that's his literal father and comment in passing about him knowing That Loser. and as the words leave their mouths suddenly it dawns on them that. he and shizuo kinda look alike. and oh shizuo in question doesn't look happy. oh. there goes the entire oven. and it's getting closer.

ironically enough despite there being an episode and a half essentially revolved around them beating each other up (/lh) they're surprisingly so sweet they're like the soft yaoi to shizaya's toxic yaoi (affectionate). i care them so much i need them blushy and confused and in denial but in a wacky hijinks way.

also chikage calling kadota "old man" despite him being at most only 4 years older than him cracks me up every time. it's giving.

wouldn't normally do this on here but if anyone has some kyouhei x chikage mindrots PLEASE share them i beg on my hands and knees i have been chronically thinking about them for over a week and need to be fed </3

here's a quick doodle of them as well as a thank u for this ask bc uGH i adore them too (they are barely mentioned and basically everything i like about them i came up with in my own silly little head). this is a pretty long post so do continue reading under the cut if you'd like! ^^

gosh idk where to even begin okok. unironically girlboss and malewife. in my mind kichirou is kinda goofy, the more laid-back parent while namiko's the stricter one despite generally being a pretty quiet person in general.

shizuo definitely gets his temper from namiko i think, and while arguments wouldn't at all be frequent it'd basically be up to kichirou or kasuka to calm them both down whenever they happened ToT

i think namiko has an artistic sort of hobby like painting. don't ask me for any reasonings i just feel like she does, and this passtime eventually rubbed off on kasuka a little since i recall he likes painting too? she'd specifically paint landscapes, her favourites being beaches and the sea. because of this though she tends to spend a lot of her free time a little secluded. sometimes, especially as children, she'd let kasuka and shizuo watch her paint and let them try out their own stuff too, but since shizuo's immense strength became apparent he sort of began to feel like he wasn't as welcome as he once was in a studio full of her fragile hard work so he harbours a sort of reluctance doing any of that anymore.

speaking of, namiko would worry about shizuo. a lot. maybe TOO much in fact. she'd frequently scold him for getting into fights and things like that, and because she's his mother i don't imagine he'd really retaliate. he'd be real pissed off and slam his bedroom door (off it's hinges😭) in a huff, sure, but there's no way in HELL he's pulling a stunt like almost throwing an entire fridge at *her*. she'd be the one dragging him to the neighbours houses and making him apologise for kicking the entire bonnet of their car in or meeting with the head of school because shizuo threw a chair into the wall. idk i kinda get the impression that their relationship is a liiittle strained because their personalities kinda clash but they love each other really. whenever something's bothering shizuo i feel like namiko picks up on it pretty quickly and does little things like make him his favourite dinner or grab a cake from the store on her commute to cheer him up.

kichirou on the other hand is big on sports i think, and listen he DEFINITELY taught his boys how to play baseball. only narita can tell me otherwise like until it's outright disproven this'll always be canon to me. i feel like he's the golden retriever to namiko's black cat in the sense he's a lot more outgoing and talkative and relaxed than her, albeit maybe a little more oblivious. i imagine he was really impressed and boastful about how strong, like a real athlete, his eldest was until the property damage and hospital bills were on the rise.

i feel like kichirou would be pretty attentive to kasuka. like oh he's kinda quiet is he making any friends at school? that kind of thing. where namiko stresses over dealing with shizuo i think kichirou would kind of overthink anything going on with kasuka.

despite namiko being the more temperamental of the two i think kichirou still gets really defensive whenever he catches wind of people talking smack about his family. like you can make fun of him all you want but the moment you get a bad word in about his boys or god FORBID his wife i feel like it's on sight. i don't think he'd go as far as getting into a fight about it but the sudden drop in light-hearted attitude to a very cold and dead serious "haha the hell did you just say?" would be enough to shut most people up. perhaps kasuka gets his acting skills from him, as in being able to switch up at the drop of a hat. otherwise i feel like kichirou's really friendly, though again maybe a little oblivious, probably has met shinra's dad before and thought he was a cool guy but maybe just a tad strange (a sizeable understatement).

in essence, think like phil and claire from modern family or mr and mrs fox from fantastic mr fox. that's basically the dynamic of them i have in my head =w= i might have more HCs but this is all that's coming to me rn. again, thanks so much for the ask!!!! ToT💕
