With the knowledge that Adam gave Shiro an ultimatum—him or the mission, this scene gets a whole new meaning to me. A way more painful one. Because as you may remember, the real Shiro was watching this
Shiro, who was forced to pick between his partner or the mission, would never make someone else pick between him or their family. Shiro knew how painful that was.

He knew that Shiro’s days were numbered and his vitality would fade before his prime was over. He knew that Shiro had suffered when that stress was too much for his partner and they turned away from him. He knew that Shiro had forsaken safety and comfort for one last blaze of glory to achieve the dream he’d worked so hard for. He knew he may never see him again, and that every time he did, the clock was still ticking.
For a fiery, upstart, showoff with discipline problems, Keith has become one of the most compassionate characters I’ve ever seen. Despite his fear of abandonment. Despite what had happened to his father, and despite knowing that their time was limited, Keith never gave up on Shiro. He never encouraged him to abandon his dream or to give up.
Every time that Shiro faltered, Keith was at his side. Did he fear that each time might be the last? Did he fear that if he only let Shiro close his eyes that his dearest friend would leave him forever?

I have a bone to pick with the Sheith fandom. Everywhere in this fandom I see Keith freaking out about Shiro, which I will admit is completely canon. But you know what else is canon?
Shiro’s bias for Keith.
I know that it’s seems subtle, but it’s not at the same time. I rewatched Voltron Season 1 and 2 before Season 3 because I noticed that I didn’t pay a whole lot of attention to Shiro the first time around. A lot of his lines are pretty generic-leader-type, but during me rewatch, I noticed that his character cues weren’t. So, without further ado, here begins my long meta post about how Shiro is pining after Keith.
