Incredible “EPIC” View Of The Moon Passing In Front Of The Earth
This is real, folks. It is not a computer-generated animation. NASA’s DSCOVR (Deep Space Climate Observatory) satellite took these incredible shots on July 16 using its Earth-facing EPIC camera from its vantage point between the Earth and the Sun, a million miles away!
DSCOVR sits at what’s known as the L1 Lagrangian point, where the gravitational pull of the Earth and Sun balance out in such a way that satellites positioned there can remain in stable orbit while using minimal energy:

This view of the far side of the Moon reminds us that it is anything but dark. The Moon is tidally locked, meaning that we see the same face all the time, but the sun regularly shines on the side that we don’t see (we’re just seeing a new or crescent moon when that happens). The far side also lacks the dark plains, or maria, that texture the Earth-facing side, made of basalt laid down by ancient lunar lava flows, reminding us that our lunar satellite has a complex geologic history:

The surface of a large moon orbiting a gas giant that has an unusual purple-tinted atmosphere. The moon has diatomic sulfur in the upper atmosphere producing the purple hue.
My last post of planets in the Triangulum galaxy, a ringed world montage. And all these planets were found in one star system.
I have not decided which galaxy I am going to visit next, but I will left you know in the next day or so.

My first posts will be from systems located within the Triangulum Galaxy. The above 3 images were taken from Space Engine of the galaxy. The background galaxy in the images is Andromeda.
For those of you that are not familiar with the Triangulum Galaxy, it is the third largest member of the local group, sometimes considered a satellite galaxy of Andromeda. The galaxy is also known as M33, NGC 598 or the Pinwheel Galaxy. Approximately 40 billion stars reside within this spiral galaxy. It is believed that the galaxy lacks a central supermassive black hole and central halo.

Three large terrestrial-sized moons orbit Insight B-VI, all of them being roughly halfway between the size of Mars and Venus. Lunar Stats Below.
Insight B-VI-M2 (Second Moon) Radius = 4,567.71 km (0.72 x Earth) Mass = 0.24 Earth Masses Atmosphere = 0.13 Atmospheres/ Ammonia, Sulfur Dioxide, Methane, and Carbon Dioxide
Insight B-VI-M3 (Third Moon) Radius = 5,672.06 km (0.89 x Earth) Mass = 0.31 Earth Masses Atmosphere = 0.23 Atmospheres/ Carbon Dioxide, Methane and Acetylene
Insight B-VI-M4 (Fourth moon) Radius = 5,786.11 km (0.91 x Earth) Mass = 0.40 Earth Masses Atmosphere = 0.01 Atmospheres/ Methane, Carbon Dioxide and Nitrogen

TOUCHDOWN OF INSIGHT ON MARS! Man, this just never gets old. I am SO over the Moon (or Mars) each and every time our incredible civilization accomplishes such amazing technological feats. Congratulations to all who made this happen. Pop the corks!
One of the landing team members just mentioned that InSight will soon deploy instruments with which to search for water on Mars. Where there is water, there is life. It is highly unlikely that the water is sterile. I also would like to remind ourselves that life exists here in Earth where in the most inhospitable life conditions, extreme heat, extreme darkness, life exist. (At the exact time of reentry and touchdown, the street in front of my place was being blacktopped with 2 gigantic steel rollers causing the ground, foundation walls, windows to shake and vibrate. @krixomatic says, “Feels like we’re inside the lander!” I exploded with laughter. Can’t make this up.) What do you think guys?
