one day you'll wake up and think, "life is okay". it'll happen gradually. you'll start to notice flowers blooming in a new light. your evening shower will be a sweet refuge. your morning coffee will warm your soul. things will seem bright and beautiful, and you'll wonder how you ever wanted to leave such lovely things behind
"Fairytales don't tell children, that dragons exist.
Children already know, that dragons exist.
Fairytales tell children, that dragons can be killed."
G.K. Chesterton.
“its been a long week” me on a Tuesday
You ever think about how earl grey tea got it's name? Like, did Earl just make a tea so fucking grey but so fucking good it was just straight up "My good sir, you must try Earl's Grey Tea, it's simply divine" like my homie saying "I made my famous boiled gaterade and mountain dew tea" and me saying to someone "Wow check out Patricks Blue tea" as a result, like wow we really fucking do just say shit and it becomes so deep into the lore of the world that nobody fucking knows why it's called it anymore.
What’s up just a reminder that the Hula Girl stereotype can go to hell and is in part responsible for Hawai’i being the tourist destination and getting invaded by rich white people, and for Hawaiian culture being disrespected and appropriated
Here’s a few sources on the topic:
How America’s Obsession With Hula Girls Almost Wrecked Hawai’i (the site is weird but the research is legitimate, gives a good overview of the issue and references a lot of sources that are harder to get your hands on read: books)
“Pop” Goes Hawai’i: The Twentieth Century Origins of Tourism in Hawai’i and the Impact of U.S. Pop Culture on Women in the Islands of Aloha (this one is very long but a really good read)
Misperceptions of the “Hula Girl” (this one is a personal essay but it’s an entry in the University of Hawai’i’s academic newspaper)
