I've said it before, and I'll say it again: one of the only few bad things about Tolkien's legendarium is that it makes 90% of all other fantasy worlds look either completely or somewhat mediocre in comparison.
Like, what do you mean you don't have a fictional language for your fantasy world? WEAKLINGS
*through gritted teeth* it doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be done. it doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be done. it doesn’t have to be-
A storm brewing (Puritan and Cavalier), oil on canvas ― Edgar Bundy (British, 1862-1922)
"The world will never starve for want of wonders, but for want of wonder. We should always endeavor to wonder at the permanent thing, not at the mere exception. We should be startled by the sun, and not by the eclipse. We should wonder less at the earthquake, and wonder more at the earth. What was wonderful about childhood is that anything in it was a wonder. It was not merely a world full of miracles; it was a miraculous world."

This post is a stand-in for a very real complaint that I'll eventually speak of at a later time.
people should learn more history so that when it comes time to make comparisons it’s not Everything Is Transatlantic Slavery Or The Holocaust
I’ll never understand why people argue about free will. Your choices were always determined by the shape of the universe at the moment you decided to argue. Isn’t that beautiful, though?
God giving humans both a conscious and unconscious mind, hiding your true nature from yourself as a running gag.

Sometimes I speak clearly and gracefully in a conversation, but then I say too many words or muddy it somehow. My authentic intention is to communicate, but it seems that by having a deliberate aim, I cause myself to miss the target entirely. Never develop a deliberate intent. In fact, don't even try. If your goals are truly meant to be accomplished, they will be reached even by accident.

Both my biologist and math friends are constantly giving me new ways of looking at the world. I have a rich inner life because of this.
I saw a man this morning going from tree to tree, painstakingly painting each leaf of every tree yellow, red, and gold, one by one. I always wondered how they got that way.
Fun game: Try to catch yourself thinking irrationally before any erroneous thought has a chance to lead you astray.
My eye doctor told me I needed a progressive lens prescription. Now all I see are good people!
whimsy is a virtue I think. one of the more important ones, especially if you're about to embark on a serious undertaking. and when things are getting distinctly unwhimsical in a situation it's generally a sign you ought to make yourself scarce.
Isn't it cool that the fundamental group of ℝℙ² is ℤ/2 cause removing a disc leaves you with a Möbius strip?
Today I learned that in pre-Columbian, pre-Hispanic cultures like the Aztec, women and children were frequently sacrificed. Parents often authorized the sacrifice of their own children. Some even ate their own children.
The problem with investing energy in trying to refute bad arguments is that you inevitably put yourself in their company.
