Unsure Whether It Would Fit The Vibe Or Steve's Character In Your Ficlet About Joyce Not Liking Him But

unsure whether it would fit the vibe or steve's character in your ficlet about joyce not liking him but it would be deeply entertaining to me personally if someone made a bitchy comment about it being ironic that joyce assumed steve was cheating considering nancy cheated on steve w jonathan when joyce explains what happened/the miscommunication.

Part 1 part 2 Ooooh. Ohhoho. Okay my knee-jerk reaction was of course Robin or Eddie. Possibly Max or Dustin (though whether Steve would tell any of the kids is highly questionable and scenario specific). Little protect Steve attack dogs the lot of them.

But consider. It's Hopper. Joyce tries to talk to him about how to go about apologizing and making things right with Steve. She doesn't want a very public spectacle of it but may have to be a little overt and obvious in order to ensure anyone Steve told (which seems to only be Robin, Eddie, and Will, not even Hopper even if he's sniffed out that something definitely happened. Steve was working up to bringing it up!)

And when she mentions that she only said all that because she thought Steve was cheating on his girlfriend, Hopper snorts. It's not a laugh, he's kinda pissed, actually, and says. "Well. That's ironic."

Joyce falters and goes "what? What's that supposed to mean?"

Hop only knows the story because sometime after vecna Murray of all people mentioned casually how Jonathan and Nancy got together on their little whistle blower field trip in '84 because of him, Steve had gone "what? Nancy and I didn't break up until after they...got back..." And Hop dealt with the emotional fallout alone because Robin was with her grandparents or something. So he'd watched as Steve just. Crumpled in and reexamined every interaction he and Nancy had had since then, and how she hadn't been the one to officially call things off with him, and how she'd flirted in the Upside Down when she was actually still dating Jonathan. But mostly how he had to find out two years later from fuckin Murray, and how much that hurt whatever friendship and trust had been built between Nancy and Jonathan and Steve.

So Hopper had heard all about Steve's issues regarding infidelity between his parents, how it was the reason he went off the deepend in '83 which brought him apologizing through the Byers' door and into the world of monsters. And how Steve thinks it's a shitty thing to do to someone who trusts you, and who you supposedly care about. How Steve just wished they had thought to at least tell him. Because he knew there were vibes and tension and electricity between them, but he hadn't known they'd already acted on them. He broke up with Nancy because he was more invested than she was, and hadn't even told him where she was going for two days, and figured trying to help her repress the trauma from the Upside Down wasn't what she actually wanted, despite the way she also encouraged ignoring it. He just couldn't believe she didn't break up with him first, after what she'd done. He didn't want to unknowingly be his mother.

Hop respects Nancy Wheelers tenacity and bullheadedness. Her determination to burn the Upside Down and the lab down to the fucking ground. She's got, for the most part, a good head on her shoulders and will likely succeed in whatever she chooses. A trailblazer that he'd trust to find the truth in whatever conspiracy comes her way. He just doesn't trust her around his fucking kid.

Jonathan Byers, he thinks, is a very good brother who needs to chill the fuck out and let himself be a kid again. He's incredibly awkward around Steve (and now Hop knows why) and kinda jumpy. But he'd trekked across the country to save El. It wasn't really his responsibility to tell Steve anyways. Hop keeps an eye on him, but he can't actually hold a grudge against him. Just a little wary.

All this to say, hop snorts out his "that's ironic" to Joyce, and she looks confused.

So he goes. "Well. Not that it's our business, so much, but Nancy getting with Jon had some overlap with her relationship with Steve."

"what do you mean?"

He raises his eyebrows. "Joyce. I'm saying Nancy Wheeler cheated on Steve with Jonathan back in '84, and didn't even bother break up or tell the kid herself. He broke up with her that weekend for other reasons, and Murray told him this past summer on accident. So. Pretty ironic for you to accuse him of cheating."

Joyce gasps. "They did that?"

"yep. Pretty shitty of them. 'parently" and Hop should maybe not say anything else, but she'd accused his kid of cheating and tore into him for it and made him feel like he wasn't safe in Hopper's house too. "Kid has got major issues about it. Seeing his dad chest on his mom all the time without even bothering to cover it up and his mother's...reactions to that, really fucked him up. Finding out about Jon and Nancy really put a wrench in the friendship he'd tried to have with them." He leaned forward a bit. "So, yeah. Really fuckin ironic you'd accuse my kid of being a cheater when all he did was kiss his boyfriend goodnight."

"Hop...I had no idea..."

Hop shrugs. "You'd better be careful how you tell him. At least right now he knows it's a you problem. Explaining that you thought he'd cheat on a partner when you've been talking up Nancy and Jonathan's relationship? Yeah, in his brain that'll make him think it's a him, problem, trying to figure out what he did that you'd think he'd do something like that."

"oh goddammit."

"yeah. Not a very nice situation to be in. Good luck on it. Love 'ya." And he walks out of the kitchen.

I can't see straight, 10 seconds past 5 o'clock

Summary:

But then, he sees the beautiful strawberry scented lipstick and could clearly picture his boyfriend kissing him not so long ago with this flavor attached to his delicious lips. His mind wanders down the "Sex with Eddie" avenue of his brain, as he remembers the first time he saw him with lipstick on. OR : Steve tries make-up thinking Eddie is at rehearsal.

It would be even funnier with the headcanon that Steve has an Italian family and speaks Italian.

He is confused to why she said it to him. Then he is confused why she speaks italian. Also he ask himself if she knows he speaks italian as well, maybe that this is the reason why she speaks it around him.

Robin will be mortified, because she did not know that he speaks Italian. Steve in his sometimes nonchalant not thinking too much ways, never gave away that he understood her and just someday either speaks to her in Italian or she hears him speaking to his family. Maybe she finds Italian books (like a cookbook) and starts to question a lot of interactions they both had.

In the end she loves it, because they can speak ill of customers or maybe a little bit of the party right in front of these persons. There can also be a moment where she is like "Of course, my Dingus speaks Italian he is my soulmate, my other half. The one person that understands me the best." (Maybe she starts thinking to teach him more languages) That would also be a really good answer from her when somebody asks why Steve can speak Italian (like the Party has never heard him speak it before). She is just like "He is my Soulmate of course he speaks Italian" If you want more you can also imagine Dustin taking the answer literally and fears that the upside down gave them superpowers (that this would also explain why they are so weirdly codependent in his eyes)

Okay something that I think should really be added to Robin is her knowledge of other languages.

You’re telling me this snarky ass ice cream server hasn’t cussed out a customer in their face in Italian?

She keeps saying “Mortacci tua” to Steve each time it comes up that Steve has lost several fights. He just stares at her funny when she doesn’t elaborate.

(The phrase implies that Steve has weak ancestors)

Robin stubs her toe “ZUT!”

(An exclamation like Damn!)

A attractive girl walks out of Family Video and once the door shuts Robin calls out “Fica!” Steve again just looks at her funny.

(Means Cunt but is used like a crude way of calling a woman hot)

When Steve is again harassed into driving around town, Robin calls him a “chupamedias”.

(Suck up/ bootlicker)

Thank you for coming to my quadrilingual Robin Ted Talk.

No, I don’t count pig Latin.

Steve and Eddie, who are both in a city for some music awards the next day, who both decide to go out for a couple of drinks the night before, who entirely thanks to destiny sit next to each other at the bar, who hit it off quickly and start talking and go on and on and on and on...

Steve knows that he recognizes Eddie from somewhere, but he is not entirely sure where from until a guy approaches them asking for a picture with him, that Steve takes very amused, and he realises he's the metal guy Dustin had asked him to take a picture with if he saw him at the awards.

Eddie, on the other hand, doesn't recognise Steve at all, even though he is objectively way more famous than him. It's just that Steve always wears a wig and sunglasses, a moustache that is sometimes fake. It's not like his identity is a secret, he does some interviews without the costume. It's what robin has called his 'drag persona' and not his hannah montana. Gives him some peace in the way that only dedicated fans recognise him when he's out.

The night is coming to an end and Eddie gets a brilliant idea to see Steve again. He asks him to be his date to the award show, like a full date, stand at his side at the red carpet and pose with him and everything, he thinks it will be fun and a very amused Steve agrees.

Eddie is very confused and surprised when the photographers ask to take pictures of his date alone at the red carpet, when some interviewers call out to him and he goes to them easily, but he is too caught up on his own interviews with his band to really pay attention to whatever shenanigans his very hot "anonymous" date has decided to pull.

Eddie is absolutely shocked when his hot "anonymous" date wins artist of the year and kisses him before going on the stage.

I Tried To Leave Kudos On A Fic That Was Already Deleted (i Had The Tab Open) And I Was Expecting It
5 months ago

i so badly want one of those fic examinations of steve's relationship with joyce and hopper but solely through eddie's pov like hear me out

steve and eddie chat a lot in the upside down (and later in the hospital, when they learn hop is alive). steve has taken charge of filling eddie in on the rest of their of-age crew without the kids butting in. he never mentions his own parents, but he talks about the rest of the party's a lot, especially joyce and hopper. eddie knows what it's like to desperately want someone to be your parent and trying to hide it from his own childhood, when he would try to be cool about wayne dropping him off at his dad's house. steve obviously adores joyce and hopper, thinks the world of them and legitimately looks up to them.

eddie isn't sure what he expects from a cop who came back to life and the world's most determined housewife, but he's excited to meet them as someone steve loves.

cue eddie's horror when he realizes that neither of them really feel much for steve rather than annoyance and vague distrust. that joyce trusts will with eddie, an accused murderer, in a heartbeat and still hesitates to leave him with steve. that hopper brushes off every ounce of steve's hero worship and joy.

he tries to broach the topic with steve, gently, and is heartbroken when steve genuinely has no idea what he's talking about. and not because he's oblivious, but because steve thinks that's what he deserves. he thinks that's the parental love that someone who was an asshole in high school needs, because that's what would make him a good person. he needs people to call him out constantly, obviously, because why else would they keep doing it? why would nancy? at least they're here. at least they're not ignoring him. at least they're not forcing him into a box. they just want him to be better.

like, this is the man who thanked a girl for calling him bullshit and telling him she never loved him. he doesn't Know that's not how you're supposed to handle things. no one ever taught him that.

and now eddie's gotta figure out how he can teach steve how to be loved the right way without outing himself and his huge crush on his love-starved dork of a friend.

He’s not entirely sure what wakes him, something between instinct, experience, and the dreadful gut-feeling that something is very, very wrong. A voice in the back of his head calls it the telltale sound of nightmare, of fear, of a child that seeks protection. That same voice wants to call it the sound of fatherhood, but it’s shut away before it becomes too loud every time.

Either way, they wake him. The groaning of the bed springs, the creaking of the floor board just behind the door before it opens with a squeak. And then the sound, barely there, of slow steps, old wool scraping over polished wood and worn carpet.

They come to a stop six paces before the couch.

Hopper counts to five before he turns to look which one of the kids it is.

Steve. Of course. El doesn’t come to him, not really. She goes to Steve if she can’t sleep, knowing he’ll be awake. The kid is always awake — and Hopper is almost glad for it, having heard his nightmares. For how quiet he is throughout the day, he sure doesn’t hold back at night.

El mentioned something a few days ago about visiting him in there to make it quiet, but they haven’t figured out how to do that yet. Steve mentioned something about sensory deprivation, but Hopper hasn’t gotten around to finding out more without being suspicious.

Really, the silence of the night should have been a dead giveaway that Steve wasn’t sleeping. It’s the third night, as far as Hopper knows. Three nights without sleep is grounds to worry, sure; but then the things he worries about are countless, so really it’s just one thing among many.

Steve rarely comes to see him, though. It must be really bad then. They made a deal after Christmas.

You come to me. Next time you wanna run, you come to me, understand that? I won’t pick you off the floor half frozen to death again next time, kid, so you got a problem, you come to me, alright?

Steve had only shrugged, and Hopper had wanted to punch him, to pull him in and hold him for a while and then shake him and command him to just fucking talk. He had pulled him in, clapped his shoulder and ruffled his hair before sending him to go eat his dinner.

And now there he is, standing in the middle of the cabin that seems to get tinier by the day, wringing his hands in the dark.

“What is it?” Hopper grunts as he sits up, wincing at how rough his voice sounds. Way to go getting him to talk, idiot.

“Uh…”

Hopper waits, but Steve doesn’t say anything more than that, and understanding dawns. The pit of dread grows, and Hopper sighs, leaning his head against the backrest of the couch.

“It’s Wednesday.”

Steve stares.

“Wednesday, February twenty-second.”

Steve stares, and Hopper hates this.

“It’s Wednesday, February twenty-second, 1984.”

Steve stares, but he inhales now. He breathes. He’s alive. Hopper wonders if he needs a reminder of that, too.

But then he nods, slowly, a little too long. Hopper doesn’t know what to do. He hates this, he hates this, he hates this. The urge to punch something is strong; but at least this time he doesn’t wanna punch the kid. He never actually wants to punch the kid.

“I don’t know what to do,” Steve says then, and it’s a whisper into the cold night that damn near breaks Hopper’s cold, tiny heart in two.

He’s struck by deja-vu. His daughter standing by his bed at night, her bunny clutched tightly to her chest, a sniffle interrupting the silence and waking him up. A nightmare woke her up, and the rain sounded scary, and she wanted to go back to sleep but she didn’t know how.

“I don’t know what to do, daddy.”

“Come here, that’s what you do.”

“Come here,” Hopper says, lifting his blanket in an invitation, and he wonders if Steve even sees it in the darkness. If he even has his eyes open. If his vision isn’t blurred with those silent tears he’s so good at hiding.

After a moment, silent steps approach him, and Hopper is surprised that he listened. The kid must really be tired, then. And scared. Shitless, probably.

But he comes. And he didn’t run. And he’s not freezing to death outside in his pyjamas.

It feels like a win. A heartbreaking, angry little win that leaves Hopper with the urge to burn this whole world to the ground and rip reality to shreds. But still, somehow, a win.

AU where after a fight with his dad, Steve’s entire life implodes when he’s told that Hopper is his real father.

This just wrecks Steve. He knows that his dad is disappointed in him and that he has to work harder to make him proud, but to find out that it was impossible? That the reason it felt like his dad hated him was because he did? And - and Hopper hates him too?

It never occurs to Steve that maybe Hopper didn’t know. All he can think about is how easy it was for Hopper to adopt El, so it’s not that he didn’t want kids. He just didn’t want Steve in his life.

He doesn’t tell anyone about it for a long time - not even Robin - and then one day blurts it out. To Callahan.

Callahan says, “You know, Hopper is like a father-figure to me so-“

“Hopper is my father.”

And then Steve just breaks down in tears and Callahan thinks to himself that there was probably a better way to start off telling this kid to stop trespassing.

Steve had spent his entire life trying to be perfect. He tried to be the perfect son with sports and popularity, he even tried his best with his grades which was evident until his first major concussion. He tried to be the perfect friend to Carol and Tommy H., even the basketball teams and other jocks, by providing free rides, parties in his house, and being a listening ear for their teenage drama. He even tried to be the best Steve he could be after the popularity faded and the demons from the shadows of Hawkins emerged. Nothing was ever enough.

He wasn’t a good enough son that deserved not to be ignored or neglected by his parents. He wasn’t a good enough student to be allowed to get into a good college or even a local community one. He wasn’t a good enough friend to the people in High School and that’s why they left him.

Through everything though, he thought he was a good person afterwards. He helped the kids the best he could, he protected them with his life, and he would do anything to ensure the survival of everyone in the Party. He knew he was good at that.

Or he thought so until he saw Eddie wasting away in a hospital bed with handcuffs on his wrists and blood soaking through the bandages on the mauled skin of his chest. He tried his best to be a good friend that could support the Party until Dustin broke his heart into splinters for something he couldn’t predict.

“You were so jealous of Eddie that you gave him the most dangerous job?! You knew how harmful the demobats were and you sent him there for a reason! That’s why you didn’t let him go with you, you wanted Eddie to die!”

After all he’d done to be good, to be the person people could count on, to be perfect; he still wasn’t enough. The kids still looked at him as the mean boy of the town and if the kids did, what did the others think?

Did Mrs. Byers still see him as the teenage dirtbag that got into a fight with her son and got him arrested?

Did Hopper still see him as the scoundrel that drank underage and threw parties that upset the neighbors in Loch Nora?

How did Nancy see him? She was the person who actually saw him at his worst, the one who opened his eyes to his failures. Did she still see him as the guy that he never wanted to be?

Steve had worked so hard his entire life to be what everyone else always wanted him to be. He hid so deeply beneath fake masks and facades that he didn’t even know who he truly was anymore, he didn’t know if he ever had.

All he knew was that after their latest run-in with the Upside Down, he went home to an empty house. He ignored the broken glass and the damage caused by the earthquake. He only focused on the fact that everyone else was currently with their families. His parents were who knows where doing who knows what but they were together, the only family they had ever wanted.

Robin was at her place with her family, her parents probably doting on her after worrying for so many days. They’d let Steve in but he didn’t want to intrude more than he’d already had. Nancy and Mike were with their parents, Jonathan, Will, and El were with Joyce and Hopper, Lucas and Erica were with the Sinclairs and Max, and Dustin was with Mrs. Henderson and Mews II. Even Eddie in a pain-induced state of unconsciousness was with Mr. Munson.

Despite all of his efforts to be perfect, to be deserving of love and pride, Steve was still alone. He’d worked for years to be someone worth loving, hell, someone worth tolerating, and it still wasn’t enough. All he had were his friends in the Party and after his talk, nay the lecture, from Dustin, he wasn’t even sure he had them. If he didn’t have them, what did he have?

Depression, PTSD, chronic debilitating migraines, night terrors, and scars?

What was the point of anything if that’s all he had? Did he really want to stick around to find out just for things to worsen like they always did?

After years and years of trying to be perfect, Steve realized he never truly would be. The night he got back to his house after watching the rest of his friends reconnect with their families, he packed up the Beemer and left Hawkins in the rear view.

He was sick of the expectations, the disappointments, and trying to reach a standard he could never sustain.

He left his heart behind wrought with guilt at leaving the Party without any notice and leaving before he knew Munson would be alright but he had no choice. If he didn’t have the kids, he had nothing and that was something he couldn’t face.
