Homer: Are you aware that many Iliad characters are first time fathers? That all of them in one way or another misses a big chunk of their children’s life or never gets to see it at all?
Also Homer: leaves and never elaborates
A doodle for random parenting shiz basically. Order from left to right, top to bottom:
-Menelaus carrying a sleepy Hermione. @hermesmoly I was drawing this when the request came lolol
-Achilles and baby Neo. I don’t know if it’s a thing in other places but hanging on father’s leg and then let him moves it back and forth like an impromptu swing is quite a favorite pastime activity here.
-Odysseus and baby Telemachus who was trying to be a helicopter
-Hector and baby Astyanax when he was born.
-Probably Agamemnon and his three daughters, but I have no official designs. He tried to scold them and was failing. Tbh I feel like Agamemnon would be the type to cosplay buff Bubble from Powerpuff girls along with his daughters. I know he’s not that great but me delulu.
-Patroclus and Neoptolemus. Yes Patroclus contributed in raising him as well, the kid had 2 dads. Fight me.
‘lol what if Crowley had freckles that were stars in his skin until they were burned out when he fell’
Zac Oyama as different cats because I’ve never seen someone who was so obviously a cat in a former life
edit: to confirm yes this was inspired by him playing puss in boots <3 but he also just has tremendous cat energy, just one of the guys ever yall understand!!
Make a moodboard of pleasing images, or a playlist of comforting songs, for when you’re feeling anxious or overwhelmed
Make a list of your best self-care techniques for particularly difficult days
Make a list of your triggers so you and others know what to avoid in everyday life
Layering clothes can provide a comfortable weight for those who feel comforted by pressure! As so heavy coats and jackets for that matter, as long as you don’t get heat stroke, of course.
For those with intense Hyperfixations, try building an aesthetic around the things you know you love and obsess over! Write academia-style essays on them, make little aesthetic infographic charts for them, write about your favorite things!
Incorporate your favorite textures into your aesthetic, especially if you have Sensory Issues!
Paint or Design your Mobility Aids or Comfort Objects to match your ideal aesthetic! Make or Buy a little doll dress for your stuffed animal to make it look more Cottagecore or Academia-like, Paint the back of your wheelchair with Sunflowers or UFOs, Make your walking cane into a work of art!
If you have trouble reading, whether from Dyslexia, Attention Problems, or what have you, listening to audio books is a good alternative too. Just try collecting books if you’d like, and if you’re up to it, find a tutor or teacher to help you read better. Try taking notes on what you’re reading so you can understand it better, and don’t blame yourself if you find it too difficult to read. You’re trying your best, and that’s perfectly good enough.
I’ve heard that colored glasses can help with Headaches or Migraines, and those could definitely match your Aesthetic as well, so if you suffer from frequent headaches they may be worth checking out!
If you struggle getting dressed or moving a lot, don’t stress too much about fashion. You don’t need the best and the prettiest outfits there are, even just a nice sweater and a skirt or overalls could certainly do the job.
Remember that you don’t need to be going to Harvard to be an Academic. Designing your room to be Dark Academia-style, Buying things that remind you of the Aesthetic and visiting places with classic or gothic architecture like Libraries, Schools, Art Galleries and Museums are perfectly fine too. You’re not dumb because you’re not in a high-class college, so please don’t stress yourself unnecessarily.
Don’t blame yourself if you’re not a star student or living the most aesthetic life there is. Disability is a hard thing to have, it’s understandable. Don’t invalidate yourself for not “living up to the aesthetic”, just accept that you’re trying your best and redefine what it means to be a part of your desired Community.
On a day where you have low spoons and are just too tired to work, try sitting in bed with a cup of coffee or tea, and read, draw, write, make art, watch a movie that seems Aesthetically Pleasing, just do things that fulfill you and make you feel comfortable.
Try keeping a Journal on how you’re feeling, what you’ve learned, what you want to learn, your health issues and what aids you, etc. An online or voice-to-text journal is perfectly fine too, and remember, nothing has to be absolutely perfect. You don’t need to have a fully illustrated collage journal; a simple 5-dollar notebook is perfectly fine too.
Don’t sacrifice your sleep, hygiene or sanity for the sake of aesthetics and studying. It’s alright to not be perfect, and I promise that the best you can give is good enough, even if it might not feel like it.
Carry around a small bottle of Essential Oils or Perfume, and smell it every time you get overwhelmed, nervous or can feel your illness starting to act up. I’ve found that aromatherapy really helps me calm down, so hopefully it might work for you too. I would, however, not advise this technique if you have migraines or headaches, so please be careful of that.
Make baths as aesthetically pleasing as possible. I know that because of Disability or Executive Dysfunction, it can be hard to keep up with hygiene, so try to make every bath a very comforting event. Light a few candles in your bathroom, use a bath bomb and listen to some Hozier while you wash. Dip your head back in the water and run your hands through it as it floats around. Also, try brushing your teeth after your bath or shower; I’ve found that it helps me take care of Hygiene to do most of it in one sitting. Oh, and try using two-in-one Shampoo and Conditioner, as it helps with executive functioning because you essentially get two things done at once.
Find a Character or Figure you relate to, whether they’re disabled/neurodivergent/mentally ill or not, and imitate them in your aesthetic. We all need role models, so identify a couple characters that you like and would want to emulate, and incorporate their aesthetic into your own! Some personal favorites of mine include Snufkin, Frodo Baggins and Aragorn, for instance.
Try low-energy activities that feed your mind, such as chess, embroidery, knitting, drawing, painting, etc. Don’t focus too much on outings if you don’t want to, especially in the time of the Coronavirus.
Design your medbox to be more aesthetically pleasing. You can paint it, or even just take a marker and start drawing on it. And try setting an alarm with a pleasing tone to remind you to take your medication!
If you suffer from eyestrain easily, Aesthetics can be a really good comfort for you! Dark Academia, Cottagecore, Crypticore and Goblincore all incorporate more neutral tones, which can be helpful when trying to avoid that horrible feeling when your eyes hurt from looking at something too bright.
Take up a hobby just for the fun of it! I sometimes struggle with the feeling that everything I do needs to be for some sort of larger goal, but it really doesn’t need to be that way. Some of the greatest joys in life come from things that don’t really matter in the long run, so take up that hobby just for the heck of it, and don’t worry about whether or not you’re doing good enough.
Identify media that make you feel comforted and is aesthetically-pleasing to you. This could be anything from the Moomins to Dead Poets Society. Pick your favorite things and let them comfort you.
When you’re overwhelmed, sick or burnt out, imagine your favorite characters or persons comforting you. It may seem sad to some, but it doesn’t need to be, so don’t judge yourself for finding comfort in characters. Cuddle up under a blanket and imagine someone running their fingers through your hair as they comfort you. Don’t be afraid to cry.
Create a comfortable space for yourself to retreat to. Fill it up with all the things you love. Draw and make collages on the walls. Get aesthetically pleasing items from around the house and make that space a home.
Try incorporating your Disability into your aesthetic, if you’d like. Be proud of it. Be defiant against those who say you look weird, or are weird for doing it. It’s a part of you, nothing to be ashamed of. Yes, it’s hard sometimes, and it can be a painful, traumatic and tedious thing to have, but by reclaiming it and incorporating it more into your life and aesthetics, it gives you a better sense of control over it. Godspeed, friends.

If The Guy Who Didn’t Like Musicals was a film
“Everything in Hatchetfield seemed normal until people began singing… Then, they began dancing… And now, a musical pandemic is sweeping the entire city. It’s up to Paul (an average guy who doesn’t like musicals) and his friends to stop this musical apocalypse and fight for humanity’s future.”
jk rowling: dumbledore’s gay, but I’m not gonna acknowledge it in the books or films ever
a bunch of college students: hold my fucking beer
Quarantine must be a really tough time for all of us - not only we worry about our physical health and the pandemic, but we should care about our mental health as well. That being said, here are some activities which give me Romantic Academia vibes ♥
Read a lot of books! Whether it’s a classic that you adore, The Secret History or a modern fantasy book - it doesn’t matter as long as you enjoy reading it. You can even treat it as a portal to another world to take your mind off the current situation. Watching movies instead is great too!
Journal daily! It’s a great way to stay in tune with your emotions. If you don’t have the energy to write but you don’t want to miss a day, you could even doodle something. You could simply write about your day, or scheme on how to meet with your secret lover (but remember to stay at home, just let your fantasy run wild!)
Write love poems! It’s a great way to spend your time creatively. You could write one about your lover, or if you don’t have one - perhaps a love poem for your soulmate in your past life? If you’re struggling with your mental health - write a love poem to yourself. You deserve some love too, after all!
Spend some time on your hobby! There’s nothing better than killing time with something you love to do when you’re bored. That may be writing, drawing, or planting something in a garden - there are so many choices, so do what is unique to you.
In case of struggling with the situation - romanticize it. In a healthy way of course! Perhaps you could put yourself in a scenario when you are locked up in a castle, forbidden and unable to meet with your loved one. That would also be a great opportunity to write some letters.
Drink something nice! Make some tea for yourself. If you prefer coffee, you can go for it! Hot chocolate is amazing too. Whatever you like - remember to take care of yourself.
Practice some self care! That’s a really important one. Show some love to yourself in whatever ways you want to do so. Go on walks around your garden (It’s spring after all! The world is so beautiful and we should all experience the joy of it!), take a hot bath, or curl yourself up in something warm and read your favourite book. You may be focused on your studies, but remember to take some time for yourself too.
Check up on your loved ones! Even if we all must stay at home, remember to spend some time with your friends or family online if you can’t meet up. Write to them and show them some love too! We all can make use of it during these times.
Remember to stay safe! ♥

Someone tell me how a parody play put on by a bunch of college students was able to portray the Harry Potter characters better than one produced by 2 professional playwrights and the damn creator of the series?
