— Let The Light In, Lucy Gray Baird

After you cheated to help your tribute, Lucy Gray, you were banished to none other than District 12. Well, at first it was said to be 11, but you bribed the Peacekeeper’s with the remaining money you had.

At least in banishment you could attempt to find your songbird.

It was quite upsetting at first when you heard the news, mainly because you had to leave your friends behind, Coriolanus and Sejanus. Your family didn’t care much for you, and you felt the same about them.

But you didn’t have much to loose, so you were content with the decision— even if life in the Districts was very different than what you had previously known.

The first week, you didn’t see a glimpse of the brunette, but you were also extremely busy with settling in. You got a small apartment and a job as a nurse for the Peacekeepers.

It wasn’t until Saturday night when you were invited by some random girl from work to the local pub, known as the Hob. Needing some liquid courage you decided why not and tagged along.

But the second you stepped into those doors and heard that all-too familiar beautiful voice singing, your heart damn near stopped.

You can’t take my charm,

You can’t take my humor.

You can’t take my wealth, ‘cause it’s just a rumor.

Nothing you can take was ever worth keeping,

No, nothing you can take was ever worth keeping.

She sung the same song she did the first time you saw her, the smile on your face only growing as she came into view. You continued your walk throughout the crowd, splitting off with the people you came with to get closer to the girl.

Thinkin’ your so fine, thinkin’ you can have mine.

Thinkin’ your in control, think you’ll change me,

Maybe rearrange me, think again if that’s your goal!

She smiled brightly as she strummed her guitar for the intermission, as when she turned her eyes fell onto you. Shock was obvious on her face, the girl almost stopping the strumming of her guitar by it. The wide eyes she had were replaced with smiling ones as it sank in. You sent a small wave and a nod her way, the girl’s smiling only growing as she ran back up to the mic.

Can’t take my sass, can’t talk my talkin’.

You can kiss my ass, then keep on walkin’.

Nothing you could take was ever worth keepin’.

Oh, nothin’ you could take was ever worth keepin’.

She sang her heart out, her eyes and that smile never leaving your gaze.

Nothing you could take from me is worth dirt.

Take it, ‘cause I’d give it free, it won’t hurt.

Nothing you could take was ever worth keepin’.

No, nothing you could take was ever worth keepin’.

Her and the Covey Band finished the song with cheers and claps erupting from the crowd, more specifically, you.

“Thank you, 12, for another night.” She bowed, nodding before leaving the stage.

You followed her with your gaze, shuffling through the crowd in an attempt to get to her. After a moment of shoving and apologizing, you finally got backstage.

You walked through the corridor. “Lucy Gray?” You called, cautious with your steps. You nearly jumped out of your skin when she jumped on your back.

She let out giggles at your yelp, smiling against your hair as she left kisses on your neck and shoulders. The feeling of her lips on your skin sent tingles down your spine as you remembered the kisses you shared through fences in the moonlight.

“Y/N!” She smiled, jumping off your back to properly hug you. She pulled your into her arms, her head going into the crook of your neck.

“Hi,” You whispered as she pulled back, a smile on her face.

“I thought I’d never see you again, oh, I thought they killed you. That’s what the rumors around here said.” Her southern drawl mixed with her concern pulled a smile out of you.

“I’m okay, they just banished me here.” You explained, you hand coming up to rub her worry lines away with your thumb. She smiled at the action, her hand rubbing your arm lovingly. “Other than a few punches, they treated me well. Bribed ‘em into putting me in twelve, y’know I had to come back for my songbird.” You brushed some hair behind her ear.

She turned a light shade of pink at the nickname you gave to her the first time you met at the train station. “How long are you stayin’?”

“Forever, I guess.” You shrugged. “I don’t really have anyone else to go back to, really. My parents pretty much disobeyed me, and all I had at the Capitol were Coryo and Sejanus.”

“I’m sorry, Y/N.” She grabbed your hand, squeezing.

“It’s alright, bird. I’m with you, that makes it okay.” You teased, smiling.

She stared into your eyes for a moment, her honey eyes flickering down to your lips. Without a word, she turned on her heel, her hand still laced with yours and pulled you into a small room.

You followed with furrowed eyebrows, opening your mouth to say something, but the second the door closed you were pinned to it, her lips on yours.

You moaned against her lips in shock, your hands coming up to cup her cheeks, deepening the kiss. Her hands squeezed your hips as she smiled against your lips. When you pulled back for air, the smile never left her face.

“I missed you, so much.” She whispered. “I can’t wait to introduce you to the Covey, they’re gonna love you.”

Your thumb rubbed against the scar on her cheekbone. “I can’t wait either, bird.”

She left another kiss on your lips before turning on her heel, and running to the corner, rummaging through a chest on the floor.

You walked over to the middle of the room, a love-sick smile on your face as you watched the girl.

She turned back to you with the same rose you gave her all those weeks ago in the train station, a mischievous glint in her eye. When she was eye to eye with you, she presented it with a curtesy.

“Y/N, will you give me the honorable title of your girlfriend?” She asked, a teasing smile on her face with a serious tone in her voice.

“Why, yes, Ms. Baird, I would love to.” You accepted the rose, your cheeks dusted pink as she ran forward to connect your lips again, giggling.

Your heart was full as you held your songbird, love being shared in your kiss. Yeah, you thought, I’m gonna be okay here.

And in the arms of your lover, nothing could hurt you anymore.

Party foul.

SUMMARY - skipping practice and getting caught partying.

3.2k words. Jackie Taylor x Fem! Reader.

TW - alcohol, some jerk tries to take advantage of the reader.

Party Foul.

Normally you would walk to practice with Taissa after class, but today you managed to slip out earlier. After finishing your lab you politely asked your teacher to go to the library, but you already gathered all your stuff and headed toward the door before she could even respond. As a teacher’s pet your teacher lets you go knowing your intentions were probably for good. Little did she know that you were going to ditch class and help your friends set up for a party later. Walking with purpose, you meet your friends in the parking lot before any of the yellowjackets could have noticed that you were gone.

As the bell rings, Taissa packs up her stuff and looks over toward your desk to notice that you were missing. It wasn’t out of the norm for you to go to practice early once you finished your work, but usually, you would have given her a heads-up. She contemplates whether or not she did something wrong that caused you to leave in such a hurry, but nonetheless, she walked towards the locker room expecting you to be there.

Usually on Fridays, the yellowjackets would have a game, but this week was their bi-week. However, with the absence of a game in the schedule, the captain decided that they should put in extra work and add an extra practice.

Once Tai was in the locker room she glanced around looking for you, but to her findings, you were not there. “Hey has anyone seen y/n?” she questioned before no one was able to confirm the whereabouts of your presence. “I'm sure she’ll be here, she never misses a practice. Maybe she went to turn in work before practice started? I mean technically she has till we start stretching on the field until she’s officially late.” Van acknowledges in attempts to make sense of your sudden disappearance. “Yeah, you're right… She was just acting a little weird today.” Tai admits before beginning to get ready to head out to the field. “I'm sure the Lord will lead her to practice safely! We should not have to worry for her.” Laura optimistically states before she goes out to the field. “Hopefully she gets here before Jackie starts terrorizing us for letting her get away with this,” Natalie said bluntly as she also headed out for practice. The rest of the girls hummed in response not particularly defending you as they finished getting ready and headed out to the field.

While they were about to start practice your friends voted that you should be the one to go on beer runs due to your charm, but you knew that they were just afraid to do it. You agreed with hesitation as your friends chipped in a bunch of money. Counting up the cash they drove to the liquor store that has a reputation for letting teens slide. Sighing nervously, you exited the car as you entered the store and smiled slightly at the man before heading towards shelves that had brands you were familiar with. Building up the courage to ask the man for help collecting some drinks, you looked towards him before asking timidly “Can I have a little help over here? I think I'm biting off more than I can chew and buying more than I will be able to carry…:”. The owner was quick to jump to help as he brought over two boxes to put the drinks in while grinning at you widely already suspecting what you were doing. “So what do you need all of this alcohol for? Big party tonight?” he asked as he started helping to put drinks that you pulled out into the boxes. “Something like that… we are having a wedding on Sunday and being the life of the party I decided to go out of the way to make it a little more fun.” lying straight through your teeth as you smiled at him. “Oh yeah? Who’s getting married? I know almost everyone in this town,” he challenged unconvinced by your previous statement. “Oh it's a distant cousin. My mom owns the local wedding venue by the lake so she offered the place completely free of charge.” quickly made up a response as you finished putting the drinks in the boxes and going to lift one in an attempt to avoid eye contact. “Well, congratulations to them!” He said chuckling as he picked up the other box and went towards the counter to ring you up. He rings up about three hundred dollars worth of alcohol before he says “Can I see your ID?”. You looked at him afraid. ’Shit’ you thought as you stumbled getting out your wallet to look through it to make it look like you were looking for an ID before he announces “I’m just kidding. You should of saw the look on your face! Will that be cash or card?” he laughs out loud as he waits for a response. ‘Very funny’ you thought sarcastically before faking a smile at him “Cash.” You hand him the wad of cash your friends gave you and once he hands back the change you were quick to pocket it. “Do you need any help carrying this to your car?” he asked genuinely but you responded quickly “Don't worry about it, I’ll just make the two trips,” you said hurriedly as you grabbed one box and brought it to the trunk of the car. One of the guys was leaning on it and he offered to quickly take the box and put it in the trunk smirking. As you went back in to get the final box the owner looks at you genuinely before saying “Have fun kid.” with a smile. Smiling back as a response you brought the second box giddily as you were surprised with what you got away with. As you hand off the box to the boy you jumped in the car ecstatic already looking forward to the night.

Back at practice, Jackie was quick to notice your absence. “Where’s y/l/n? Is she sick?” she asked a little frustrated that you did not inform her earlier of your absence. After a moment of silence, Tai jumped in “She disappeared during class… maybe she was not feeling well?” Tai offered in an attempt to save you. “Not feeling well my ass, I'm sure she would have said something,” Jackie remarked quickly as all of the girls started to stretch. Once practice was over Jackie was determined to find your whereabouts and shun you for not being a team player and participating. Some reasons were thrown out there about why you might have not shown up to practice today, but none of them made sense. They moved on to start practice and time seemed to fly by as the sun was already down. They were over before they knew it and back in the locker room. As they all were finishing up for the day Lottie received a text before she summarized it out loud “...seems like there's a party at y/n’s friend's house and it looks like she’s already there.” Lottie smirks as the other girls crowd around her. Her phone had a picture of you and your friend, Jake, who draped his arms around you seemingly already drunk out of your minds. “You got to be kidding me…” Jackie scoffs as a tinge of jealousy is evident on her face. ” Who knew she had the balls in her!” Van announces loudly laughing before continuing “...I think I know where we should go tonight!” Van suggests an attempt to start a little drama.”I swear, y/l/n will never be able to step on the field again after this.” Jackie said frustrated as she walked out of the locker room to hurry home. The girls left in the locker room looked around a little astonished by their captain’s urgency but were overcome with excitement as they planned to go to the party.

Once Jackie finished picking out an outfit with Shauna they waited for Jeff to take them to the party. “I can’t believe she would do this to us. We are so close to making it to the championships and she’s being completely reckless. Then she had that guy hanging off her as if she has no care about her reputation. It makes the team look bad!” she rambles on to her best friend complaining about your actions, but she was full of jealousy. “Jackie, the girl skips once and it’s almost the end of the world. Let us be realistic now.” Shauna says sarcastically over Jackie's complaints “Why do you care anyways? It’s like your obsessed with her.” she chuckles lightly as she turns to Jackie looking at herself in the mirror. “I’m not obsessed! I just care about the team! I mean she’s out throwing a rager in little to no clothes and expects the school to take us seriously?” Jackie sighs as she clearly could not hide her jealousness. “I think it might be much deeper than that… I’m sure once you find her you guys can have a conversation about our reputation and your obsession…” Shauna jokes knowingly before dodging a pillow Jackie threw at her. “Oh shut up! She won’t even make it out alive!” Jackie plays along before being interrupted by Jeff honking his horn. “We better get going before she won't even be able to remember your attack.” Shauna snickers as they head out to go to the party.

You wandered around the party completely lost as your friends ditched you half an hour ago to play a game of beer pong. Holding a cup with your name smeared on it and wearing a pair of glasses that were not yours it was not difficult to tell your a few drinks away before making decisions you will regret later. Stumbling towards the kitchen you ran into a couple of football players and their girlfriends. You grin up at them before attempting to get to the counter to fill up another drink as you take off the glasses, but before you could make it a tall guy steps into your view. “Hey gorgeous!” he said smugly before continuing “...if you're looking to fill your cup you're out of luck.” This was the worse thing you heard all night as you looked around the kitchen and only saw empty bottles “Noooooo!” you slurred completely devastated. “Hey calm down! Im sure there might be some more downstairs in the bar room…” he said chuckling as you were completely unaware of his intentions. The idea of another drink excited you before exclaiming “Really? Where?”. He smirks down at you before taking you down the hall and opening the stairs to the basement. Before anything happens the yellowjackets arrived at the perfect time as Lottie grabs onto your arm pulling you away from the guy. “What the hell do you think you’re doing with her?” Lottie yelled as Jackie followed after her shortly after noticing the situation. Jackie did not hesitate to grab your waist before pulling you to her side as she looked menacingly at the guy “Who do you even think you are, asshole? No wonder you’re single you can't even get a girl when she’s sober, so you try to take advantage of them! Get the hell out of here!” She screamed out at the boy. He mumbles a ‘screw you’ under his breath before he backs down from fighting the girl's soccer captain.

She looked down at you as her heart broke at the idea of your friends leaving you alone at the party in such a vulnerable state. Noticing tears were threatening to spill from your eyes she looked up at Lottie before saying “Can you make sure to tell off her friends? I Can’t even stand the idea of those losers right now.” She huffed out. Lottie nodded understandingly as she left off to complete her mission.

Jackie began to lead you outside to allow you to get a breath of fresh air. She lead you to where all the cars were parked, but she still held you close by her side embracing your warmth. Begrudgingly pulling away from you, she gently holds your shoulders to look into your eyes in an attempt to read the thoughts in your mind. “I don’t think you understand half of how worried and frustrated I am right now,” she said clearly before going to cup your face to wipe off your tears. As she held onto your face you looked down at her lips before back at her eyes. The liquor started talking to you as you leaned in quickly and kissed her softly. Jackie was stunned by the sudden outburst but did nothing to stop you. “y/n..” she whispered after pulling away to read the emotions on your face. In attempts to sober up quickly, you looked at Jackie to find a response before admitting “You don’t know how long I was waiting for that.” but you consciously facepalmed yourself. “Oh, god no, sorry Jackie… I didn’t mean it like that… but also I did…” you said slurring and stumbling over your words as Jackie smiled down at you a little amused at your performance. “What I meant to say is thank you, for saving me, and I’m sorry for skipping,” you said still clearly tipsy but Jackie acknowledges your statements. “We’ll talk about it later when you're in a clear headspace and sober.” She said smirking.

You continued your drunken rambles saying “...but I meant the kiss, Jacks… I mean come on! Have you met yourself!” laughing as Jackie starts to walk in the direction of your home that wasn’t too far from the party. She smiles softly at your comment, “Let’s get you back home before you regret something later” chuckling as she wrapped an arm around you to prevent you from falling and injuring yourself as the two walked. “Trust me, I haven’t yet made a decision bad enough that I will regret it! Besides, you’re my knight in shining armor!” gazing up at her with a loving look as she blushed at your comment. “Wait till the other girls find out that you have a soft spot for me! You’ll never hear the end of their teasing.” you continued as she held onto you even tighter. “Well, maybe I would take all the teasing in the world to make sure you are safe.” She admitted and now it was your turn to blush. She truly believes the saying that drunk words are sober thoughts, so she was a little happy that you ended up safe in her arms this night confessing.

Once you got home you clumsily lead her into your backyard to sneak in your bedroom window.  You had no idea whether or not your parents were home, but it was better to be safe than sorry to avoid getting caught. Familiar with this route, you put up the ladder to give you access to your roof to climb into your room. She insisted that you would go first so she can stay behind to make sure you don’t accidentally fall and can attempt to catch you. You smiled at her thoughtfulness as you climbed up and entered through the window. Looking back she followed a few steps behind you entering your room. Observing your room she smirked at the posters on your walls and some pictures you had from your childhood and others of you just hanging out with your friends and family. She was quick to go towards your desk to look through your stuff as she saw a Polaroid of you two together where she was kissing your cheek after a game. She smiled at the memory before picking it up to show you “Didn’t know you would have kept this? You could of at least framed it.” she teases as your face turned red. “Oh ummm, I thought it was a good picture and I didn’t have the heart to throw it away…” trailing off gently as you headed off to the bathroom to avoid embarrassment, but also to clean up after the night. Smiling at your reaction she put the photo down “I wish you had a copy of it. I would take it everywhere.” stating lovingly as she did not want to emphasize too much of her feelings for you in your current state. Once you finished cleaning up you exited to pick out a pair of pajamas for yourself, but also picked out a pair for Jackie. “Here” tossing her one of your sweaters and a pair of shorts with a playful smile as you grabbed your own. Jackie caught it a little surprised before stating “I was not planning to stay the night–” before you interrupted “You’re out of your mind if you think I’m going to let you walk back to the party… or for that matter to your house all alone at night. Just stay the night… I promise I won't bite…” smirking as you started to strip and change into your nightwear. She was flustered and had to pry her eyes off of you to save herself from falling even more in love with you before sighing “You’re right…” and was quick to change into your clothes. She embraced the soft floral perfume that lingered on your sweater and already started to plan how she was going to steal it.

Once you both finished your room was filled with light that shone in from your window from the moon and a light breeze. You were quick to get into your bed, but Jackie was nervous as she hesitated slightly. Holding the blanket up for her to get under she could not resist your offer. The silence was comforting but Jackie's thoughts of y/n were taking over her mind.

As you got comfortable, you take a moment to look up at her observing her conflicted facade. “Hey, are you alright?” you questioned her softly before turning in the bed to face her directly. She was suddenly nervous from your actions as a light blush tinted her cheeks, “Yeah, I'm just thinking about the night…I loved that I was able to spend this time with you even if it did not start off great earlier. You know you have to be more careful right?”. Her gaze was now focused on you and your soft features and that made you to be flustered also “I know, I’m sorry. I never really had the opportunity to thank you properly for saving me…” your voice was barely above a whisper as your eyes flickered between her gaze and her lips.  Jackie got the hint and gladly reached out to cup your face with one of her hands before she guided you to her lips. The kiss was passionate and left you both breathless as you pulled away to grin at her. “I will forever be grateful for my savior” whispering teasingly as you leaned on her chest and got comfortable. She laughed lightheartedly before wrapping her arms around you as she began to trace patterns gently on your back “Get some sleep, you’re going to have a long day ahead of you tomorrow, sweetheart.” teasing back before gently playing with your hair with her other hand. Humming at her response you smiled in the crook of her neck as you fell asleep. Before Jackie knew it you were out like a light. Smiling softly she kissed the top of your head as she let herself fall asleep knowing her dream woman was safe in her arms.

— My Love, Mine All Mine, Lucy Gray Baird

When your eyes first laid upon Lucy Gray Baird, you were immediately enthralled by her presence. Everyone who had ever gotten the honor to meet her would say the same.

You had grown up in the very same district that her and her family, The Covey, were locked up in after being rounded up by the Peacekeepers. Most people around Twelve talked shit on them for being different, but the thing that drew you in the most to her was the fact that she didn’t give a shit.

She didn’t care what anyone thought, no one in her family did. They loved what they did, and that was singing. You saw this on full display at the Hob, where they performed every other night.

You already knew she was beautiful, but, God, when you saw her on that stage, beaming, you swore Aphrodite was standing before you. Her voice was just as beautiful as her, as she danced around stage, captivating the whole room.

At the end her performance, you snatched a daisy out of someone’s bouquet as you walked by, speed-walking to the corridor you were watching her walk into.

“Lucy Gray!” You called, the girl turning towards your call immediately, a smile still on her face. You held out the flower, a soft smile on your face. “You’re beautiful, as well as your singing.”

She blushed, her laugh coming out. “Why, thank you, darlin’.” She took the daisy, taking it up to her nose to smell. “What’s your name?”

“Y/N,” You beamed. “It’s a real pleasure to see you and your family around here. You really light it up ‘round here.” You complimented. “Twelve’s a normally dull place, but here.. it’s different.”

“Thank you, truly.” Her hand grabbed yours, squeezing. “I’ll see you around.”

And she kept her word, finding you after her next show to get to know you better.

And just like that, the pair of you were inseparable.

She introduced you to the Covey, and after they learned you had pipes, you were immediately brought into their group. You loved it, it felt as if you had found the people you’d been longing for your whole life.

But you found yourself staring at Lucy Gray for longer than normal, a dopey smile lazily draped across your sun kissed features. It wasn’t until some teasing from CeCe and Billy that you realized that you had feelings for the girl.

“Aye, Y/N, it seems like you got some drool right there…” CeCe teased, a playful smile on his face as they caught you staring at the girl for the 100th time.

Billy butted in from his side. “Yeah, you do. Someone’s fallin’ for the songbird,” He laughed. You rolled your eyes at them, before taking their words into consideration.

Holy fuck, you were falling for her.

I mean, how could you not? She was a beacon of light, her presence alone brighting up every room she walked into to, and she had treated you wonderfully, even going as far to include you with her family.

You were caught up in your love daze, not realizing the crushing realities that came with your feelings. But when you did, it left a sour taste in your mouth.

The butterflies swirling in your abdomen stopped in an instant, replaced with an oozing, grueling feeling of worry. Lucy Gray could find you repulsing— and the whole Covey would leave you as well.

It left you wishing you had a factory reset button to forget your feelings at once.

“Y/N, what’s with the frown?” Lucy Gray suddenly appeared in front of you, her signature smile on her cherry lips.

Your eyes snapped to hers, your nerves only growing. “Oh, nothin’. Just thinkin’.”

She sat down next to you. “Oh, really? Didn’t think you was capable.” She joked, making you lightly shove her with a smile.

Your breath caught in your throat when you realized how close you were to the girl. Her honey eyes stared up into yours, and you struggled to not look at her lips. All you wanted to do was close the space between the pair of you.

But you decided on that day that you would settle for this. After all— having her as a friend was better than nothing.

It wasn’t until the reaping of that year that you decided to throw caution to the wind.

It was the Covey’s first reaping, and it was for the annual 9th Hunger Games. Your nerves always got the best of you during this time of year, but it seemed that you weren’t the only one.

You sat in your room, Lucy Gray sitting at your desk in the corner. She said she was trying to write, but you could tell by the bouncing of her leg and her tense body that it wasn’t going well.

You licked your lips, putting your book aside. “You alright, Gray?”

She turned her head, her eyes meeting yours from over her shoulder. She sighed, turning back to the paper and rubbing her temple. “No,”

You stood up, coming to stand next to her, your hesitant hands rubbing her shoulders, the tense muscles deflating under your touch. “What’s wrong?”

“I.. I just really miss my mama.” She let out a sad breath. “And this reapin’ stuff is got my nerves wrecked.”

“I know the feelin’.” You bitterly chuckled. “You won’t get your name drawn, Lucy, none of you will. Your names are only in their once, your chances are slim. You should be okay. I miss my ma, too. I know it hurts.” You tried your best to calm her.

Her hand came up to grab yours that was resting on her shoulder, lacing your fingers together. “You know, you are about the only good thing in this District,” She smiled up at you, her worry lines faded.

At her words you felt those butterflies return, as your eyes flickered down to her lips, your teeth pulling in your bottom lip as you tried to talk yourself down.

Lucy Gray noticed this, however, and with a smile still plastered on her pretty face, she leaned up ever so slightly and captured your lips with her own. Your eyes widened in surprise, before they fluttered closed, your hands coming up to cup her face.

You let out a happy hum against her lips, the girl standing up to get a better grip on your hips, her lips never leaving yours. When you broke apart for air, a giggle left her slips at the sight of your lips stained with her lipstick.

“I’ve wanted you to do that for so long,” You admitted with a smile.

A smirk grew across her face. “I was waitin’ for you to grow the balls to do it first. Turns out you were too chicken.” She teased, her arms wrapping around your neck as she left small pecks on your lips.

You didn’t even pretend to be offended by her words, instead rolling your eyes playfully before kissing her again.

“Be my girlfriend,” She whispered against your lips. You pulled back slightly at her words, before jumping into her arms.

“Yes, yes.” You chuckled, as the girl hugged you back just as tightly.

That led you to now, where you smiled at the same brunette that was laid in your arms. She was different, anyone who had been what she went through would be, but she was also still your same Lucy Gray in all the best ways.

After you got her back from the games, you vowed to never let her go again. The turmoil you felt in the weeks that she was away from you, not knowing if you’d see her again or not— you never wanted to feel that again. And she felt the same way.

“You got a starin’ problem, girl?” Lucy Gray teased with that southern drawl you loved, seeing that you were lost in thought.

A warm smiled crossed your face at the sound of her voice, your hand going to play with her hair. “If it means I get to look at you, then yes, I do.”

She giggled, snuggling deeper into your arms. “Yeah, yeah, you sap.”

“You love it,”

She rolled her eyes, playfully. “I do,” She looked at you seriously now, leaning up to kiss you softly. You smiled against her lips, the feeling of her expressing her love for you in such an intimate way always making you smile.

You would proudly admit that you were head over heels in love with your girlfriend to anyone. But you knew you couldn’t— hell, the only people that even knew you were together was the Covey and her mentor, Coriolanus Snow. People didn’t seem expect, nor accept your type of love.

She had told him during her time there, during the nights they spent together talking through the cage bars. She talked his ear off about you, a love-sick smile on her face the whole time, the girl forgetting that some people weren’t accepting of your love.

But to her surprise, Coriolanus didn’t care if she was with a girl. In fact, he was thrilled, which confused her to no end. (She didn’t know this, but the only reason he was happy was because he now had something that would fuel her to win.)

You thanked every star above for the Snow boy for bringing your girl back to you, even if she was brought back with sharper edges. You didn’t care, you had her back in your arms. And you wanted to thank him.

But, Lucy Gray was a different girl than what she was when she left, even if she tried to pretend that wasn’t the case. She was more paranoid, more protective of the people she loved— especially you. More than you anticipated.

So the next morning when you set out to find the boy who was currently serving time as a Peacekeeper in your very district, the one goal in your mind was to thank him, the thought that this might be upsetting to your girlfriend not even crossing your temple.

You decided to bring him a rose— Lucy Gray mentioning to you that his Grandmother grew them, and you just happened to as well. It wasn’t like the pure ones his Grandmother grew in the Capitol, but you deemed it good enough.

You caught a glimpse of his platinum buzzcut, a smile growing over your ruby red lips. “Snow!” You called, jogging up to him in your cowboy boots. He turned at the call, his eyebrows furrowing when he saw it was you.

“Y/N?” He questioned.

“Hey, Coriolanus.” You smiled, holding out the rose for him. “Lucy Gray mentioned something about your Grandmother and roses, and just as a thanks for you bringin’ her back to me, I’d like to give you this,” You motioned to the rose.

To your delight, his hard face warped into that of a smile. “Thank you, Y/N. Truly.” His hand came out to squeeze your forearm affectionately. “I appreciate it, and you don’t have to thank me for that.”

“I do.” You assured him. “I don’t know what I would’ve done if I didn’t get her back. You saved her… so, truly, thank you, Coriolanus. I mean it.” You felt eyes on you, but you shook the feeling off.

He nodded sheepishly, not used to the type of compliment you were giving him. “Of course.. Thank you for the rose. Let me know if you need anything, I’ll see you around.” He smiled, giving your forearm one last squeeze before he turned.

“You’re welcome, Coryo.” You flashed him one last smile before you turned on your heel yourself. What you didn’t expect to see was to see those honey eyes you loved staring daggers at you.

You cocked your head to the side as she began to stomp her way towards you. Once she reached you, she grabbed your wrist with a hard grip, and without word dragged you back to your now shared home.

“Lucy, what’re you doing?” You asked, just as your neared the front lawn of your home.

She clicked her tongue, a sign she was mad, and shook her head, continuing to lead you to the house in silence. Once the pair of you got in, she threw her bag on your shared bed, crossing her arms.

“What the hell was that?” She asked, her tone hard.

“What are you talkin’ about, Lucy?” You asked, stepping closer to her. She only backed away, her head shaking once again, while you visibly shrank at her rejection.

“Don’t play dumb, Y/N. You know better,” She scoffed, rolling her eyes. “I been runnin’ around, lookin’ for you like some fool, while you were off with my mentor, lettin’ him touch you. Why were you with him, huh?” She pressed. “What, you think I’m stupid or somethin’?”

“Coriolanus?” Your eyebrows furrowed, still not quite catching on to what she was so angry about.

“Yes, damnit, him.” Her voice slightly raised as she walked up to you, her gaze lowered as she glared at you. “Why were you givin’ him a rose, huh? Why were his hands on you?”

You licked your lips as you took in her state. Her pupils were blown out, her jaw slack— God, she looked so hot when she was angry. You shook your head at your thoughts, trying to be serious.

“Aye!” Her fingers snapped in front of your face, angrily. “Answer me,”

“Lucy, I— I was goin’ to thank him..” You whispered, your voice dying in your throat as you submitted to her fiery gaze.

“Why?” Her voice was low and raspy, sending shivers down your spine.

“For bringin’ you back t’me.” You admitted, looking at the floor guiltily as it sunk in that how much you truly had upset her. “I never got the chance to properly thank him, and you said he liked roses. So I brought him one, I thought it would remind him of home. I didn’t mean anything by it, I swear,”

Her eyes softened. “Oh, baby, I’m sorry..” She whispered, one hand coming up to cup your jaw, rubbing softly. “I.. My mind went somewhere completely different when I saw him touchin’ you.. It just made me angry,”

A sly smirk came over your features. “I think you mean jealous, Lucy Gray.” You whispered teasingly.

“Only you could make me this crazy,” She smiled. “But, I am sorry.” She said, guilt swirling in her eyes.

“Hey, it’s alright.” You reassured her, seeing that she was beating herself up. “Even I get a little jealous seein’ Billy drape hisself on you when he’s shitfaced, it’s normal, baby, I ain’t mad.” Your goofy smile mixed with your southern accent making her smile come back.

But just as it returned, it was replaced with a serious look. “Just.. stay away from him, alright? I don’t fully trust ‘em.”

“I won’t go near him again, I promise. I just wanted him to know I was thankful for bringin’ my best girl back t’me,” You tried to cheer her up, your lips ghosting over hers.

“Good. ‘Cause your mine,” She smirked, closing the space between the two of you as her lips kissed you hard, her teeth nipping your bottom lip as you let out a gasp, granting her access to your mouth as she deepened the kiss.

You smiled against her lips, thanking the stars above that you had the pleasure of being hers.

— Can’t Help Fallin’ In Love, Coriolanus Snow

Coriolanus sat with an emotionless look on his face as he sat on the rocky train that was taking him to his worst nightmare. He was being shipped off to District 12 for cheating to help you win the games. He didn’t regret that, he never would.

But this was not the ideal outcome he’d imagined.

At least he wouldn’t be completely alone— after all, he was going to your district. He just wished it was under different circumstances.

“You know, I thought I might find you here,” Sejanus’ words caused him to turn around immediately, breaking him from his thoughts. “Sitting all by yourself.” He teased, walking into the train cart Coriolanus was currently in.

“Sejanus, what’re you doing—” He stood up, his eyebrows knitted together in concern and annoyance.

“What do you think?” He cut him off with a scoff. “After what I did in the arena? My father had to buy me the Academy a brand new gym just so I could get my diploma.” He put his bag down. “He begged me to stay, but once I found out where they were sending you, I couldn’t get out fast enough.” He admitted with a sigh, moving to sit down. “Barely made the train ‘cause of this stupid knee, but it’s okay, they gave me some morphling for the pain.”

Coriolanus looked at him with judgment. “You volunteered for this?”

“I figured if I get through basic and then maybe I’d become a medic.” He beamed. “Maybe make a real difference out here… just like you said.” Sejanus’ gaze turned downward. “They never told us what you did,”

“I cheated.” He answered, shamelessly. “To save Y/N from the snakes.” Sejanus’ nodded slowly, understanding where his friend was coming from. After a beat of silence, Coriolanus’ tearful eyes met his. “Do you think they killed her?”

“Why would they risk it?” Sejanus questioned with furrowed brows. “She was a big hit, if there is a games next year, they’re probably gonna invite her to sing at the opening ceremony.” He joked with a smile.

Coriolanus didn’t laugh. “You know, when you came in, I was weighing the merits of suicide.” He half-joked, his smile not meeting his eyes.

“When we’re about to be free?” Sejanus shot back. “When the girl you risked everything for might be waiting for you at the end of this track?” At his words, Coriolanus’ throat ran dry, the tears returning to his eyes. The possibility that you might be waiting not even crossing his mind. Sejanus looked at him with a knowing glint in his eye. “My friend, don’t give them the satisfaction. Your life has just begun. You’re gonna do great— We’re both gonna do great.”

Sejanus’ words still rung in his ears, even if they were spoken all those months ago.

Even now, when you were delicately tucked under his arm, your head buried in his neck as you slept soundly. That conversation seemed to take home in his mind, never leaving.

You were, in-fact, waiting for him, and the moment you saw him you ran into his arms, and he cherished you every day from that moment. The pair of you spent as much time together as you could, and you loved every second of it. As did he.

You were like a star of brightness in his darkness— lighting up places he didn’t even know existed and granting them with your warmth. And now that you weren’t fighting for your life, he got to learn so much about you.

He learned about your quirks, your personality, your smile, all of it. You learned the same about him.

But nights like these where he couldn’t find sleep and was left up alone, the silence and ringing of the bugs outside consumed him, the man getting caught up in the ropes that was his thoughts.

He often didn’t believe he deserved you, that you were too pure for him. You were gifted to him by mistake, but he was too selfish to let you go.

And, God, you never wanted him too.

Coriolanus had a bad habit of not speaking his mind, and bottling his emotions until they bubbled over, everything coming out in one out burst of rage and sadness. You didn’t blame him, you never did. Instead, you picked him up from the floor and held him until he calmed down.

He had never experienced the type of love you gave him, and it scared the shit out of him. He didn’t know how to return it, he wasn’t good with kind of stuff. You taught him things everyday, though.

You snuggled deeper into his neck, his uneven breathing causing you, a light sleeper, to wake up. Or, according to your theories, you were so interlinked with Coryo that you could sense when he was overthinking.

You left a small patch of kisses on his throat, cracking your sleepy eyes open to confirm your suspicions— the boy was staring off into space, not a drop of sleep in his eyes.

“Coryo,” You whispered, leaning up to kiss his jaw softly. He turned at your acts, his eyes meeting yours as his previous frown was replaced with that lovey smile you adored. “Can’t sleep?”

He shook his head, temporarily pushing you off of him in order for him to turn on his side to properly look at you. Once he got situated, he pulled you back into his chest, a giggle leaving your lips.

Your fingers came up to knead through his messy platinum locks. “What’s on your mind, baby?”

His eyes fluttered closed for a moment. “Nothing.. it’s just, sometimes I think you may be too good for me.” He admitted slowly.

Your eyebrows shot up. “Coryo, if anything, you’re too good for me. Remember, honey, I’m ‘District Trash’.” You laughed, repeating the words Lucky Flickermen had said about you before wrapping your arms around his neck and leaving kisses all over his face. “You must be a fool if you can’t see how in love I am with you. You are more than good to me, I couldn’t imagine my life with anyone else.” You promised, continuing to leave kisses on your lover’s smiling face with every word you spoke.

His arms wrapped around your waist, hugging you closer to him. “I love you,” He whispered in your ear, beginning to leave his own kisses on your neck and jaw.

Butterflies creeped up your spine at his confession, a love-sick smile tugging on your lips as you leaned up to really kiss him.

His hands came up to cup your face as he slipped his tongue into your mouth, the kiss only being further fueled with your burning passion for each other. Your hands slipped back into his locks for purchase as the kiss grew more needy. You let out a whimper against his mouth when he began to kiss you harder, angling your body back to deepen it further.

He smirked against your lips at your noises, before pulling back for air. His thumb swiped back and forth across your cheekbone as you both stared at each other, love strong in the both of your eyes.

“I love you, Coryo.” You whispered back, before taking your spot back in his arms. “Get some sleep, my love.” You left another kiss on his throat, the boy hugging you somehow closer, leaving a kiss on your forehead.

“Thank you,” He softly spoke, leaning up to blow out the candle you had lit earlier.

“Always,”
