Distraction

Remus was going to fail. He could see it now—the giant red "D" or worse, a "T" staring up at him in McGonagall’s spidery handwriting, the disappointment heavy in his stomach. He groaned, rubbing his temples as he hunched over his Transfiguration textbook, eyes darting over the same sentence for the fifth time without absorbing a single word.

"Moony," came a familiar, honey-smooth voice from behind him. "Why are you studying when you could be kissing me?"

Remus sighed without looking up. "Because I have a test tomorrow, Sirius. Unlike you, I actually need to revise."

Sirius, a menace and, unfortunately, Remus’ incredibly distracting boyfriend, plopped himself onto the couch next to him. He leaned in, resting his chin on Remus’ shoulder. "You don’t need to revise," he murmured, lips brushing against Remus’ ear. "You’re the smartest bloke in this entire bloody castle."

Remus shivered but clenched his jaw. "Flattery won’t work. I need to concentrate."

Sirius made a wounded noise. "But what if I perish from lack of affection? What if I simply wither away? You’d regret it for the rest of your days."

"I think I could live with it."

"Cruel," Sirius whispered, tilting his head so that his lips barely grazed Remus’ jaw.

Remus tensed. "Sirius."

"Yes, my love?"

"Go away."

Sirius gasped dramatically, clutching his heart as if he’d been personally offended. Then, with the precision of someone who had perfected the art of seduction, he shifted, straddling the couch so that he was facing Remus directly. "Alright. Fine. I’ll go. But first—" He widened his stormy grey eyes, an expression so utterly, devastatingly puppy-like that Remus almost whimpered. "Just one kiss?"

Remus shut his eyes tightly. "You’re evil."

"A single kiss and I’ll leave you alone," Sirius promised, even as his hands settled on Remus’ waist.

Remus hesitated. He was strong. He was determined. He could resist. Except then Sirius bit his lip, tilting his head just so, and—

Remus caved.

The kiss was meant to be brief, but Sirius had a way of making time irrelevant. His fingers curled into Remus’ hair, tilting his head back as their lips moved together, slow and teasing, until Remus found himself gripping Sirius’ collar, pulling him impossibly closer. His textbook slid forgotten onto the floor as Sirius deepened the kiss, nipping at his lower lip before soothing it with his tongue.

By the time Remus remembered how to breathe, he was entirely boneless, his head resting against Sirius’s shoulder, mind blank in the most delicious way.

Sirius smirked triumphantly. "See? Much better than studying."

Remus groaned, shoving at his chest half-heartedly. "You’re an actual demon."

"A demon who loves you very much," Sirius corrected, pressing a final kiss to Remus’ temple. "Now, let’s go to bed. You can cram in the morning."

Remus didn’t cram. He failed the test spectacularly.

But when Sirius kissed him silly after, murmuring how proud he was anyway, Remus decided that it had been worth it.
