Still frame from WikiLeaks "Collateral Murder" video, captured moments before U.S. helicopter pilots would go on to kill civilians and journalists in Iraq in 2007 while casually joking about it. Whistleblower Chelsea Manning was sentenced to 35 years in prison, none of the perpetrators were charged
Dean Obeidallah at The Dean's Report:
We’ve never seen a presidential administration weaponize government to the extent of Donald Trump--both by rewarding his supporters and punishing his “enemies.” And what we saw Monday sums it up perfectly. Trump had his DOJ arrest a Democratic member of Congress on BS charges of assaulting an ICE officer while he rewarded the family of MAGA terrorist Ashli Babbitt--who was killed while storming the Capitol on Jan. 6--with $5 million of your tax dollars. This should make your blood boil—because it makes mine! The arrest of New Jersey Democratic Rep. LaMonica McIver is as House Democratic leaders led by Hakeem Jeffries wrote in a statement, “extreme, morally bankrupt and lacks any basis in law or fact.” The charge arises from the May 9th visit by herself and two other New Jersey members of Congress to an ICE facility in Newark. A scuffle broke out when the ICE agents suddenly arrested Newark Mayor Ras Baraka for allegedly trespassing. Videos show McIver being pushed by ICE agents and saying on video about one agent, “He just assaulted me.” There is also video of incidental contact between McIver and an armed ICE agent in tactical gear.
After the incident, Trump officials went on TV claiming that McIver “body slammed” an ICE agent and the video would back that up. It did not—that was a lie. Yet Trump’s US Attorney for New Jersey Alina Habba gleefully claimed on Monday McIver had “assaulted, impeded, and interfered with law enforcement” and charged her with a federal crime. This is not the first fabricated charge by the Trump regime versus a Democrat. On Monday, Habba dropped the trespassing charge against Mayor Baraka, claiming it was “for the sake of moving forward.” In reality, as the evidence showed, Baraka was arrested on public property outside the ICE facility. You can’t trespass on public property—especially when you’re the Mayor of the city! The arrest of McIver follows an alarming pattern from convicted felon Trump over his first four months of utilizing the power of the federal government to target his critics and perceived enemies. We’ve seen Trump’s rogue regime arrest a judge in Wisconsin and the Mayor of Newark, begin a criminal investigation into NY Attorney General Tish James plus threaten to prosecute the Mayor of Chicago and the governor of New Jersey. Trump and his minions have also opened formal investigations into media outlets critical of him, the Democratic fundraising platform Act Blue, law firms, universities, people who used to work in the Trump regime but refused to lie that the 2020 election was stolen and more. As Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ)--who was with Rep. McIver at the ICE facility --told me last week, she expected Trump to charge her or McIver. Not because either did anything wrong but because as she noted the Trump regime is “out of control” with their “weaponization of law enforcement.” She rightly warned, “no one is safe form this administration.”
Something’s not adding up here: The Trump DOJ goons ordered the bogus arrest of Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-NJ) while giving a $5M reward to the family of the late domestic terrorist Ashli Babbitt.

Mental Health crisis rages...
Every accusation is a confession.
Color me surprised 😑
This party has a serious issue with trying to fuck children. He's not the first or last disgusting pos I've heard about doing this.
Heck one of Trump's pardons was arrested soon after he was out for doing his gross child predator shit.
But y'all care about children so much you want them to be literally forced to be born (guess cos your victims are getting "too old) to molest them, psychologically abuse them and even roll back child labor laws.
Of course Florida's DeathSantis, who is another republican child lover, is working hard in bringing the good old days of exploitive child labor ❤️.
This is Texas, where sodomy is still in the penal code and its conservative leaders like it that way.
Legislators criminalized such behavior back to the 1800s.
When the Texas penal code needed updating in the 1900s, lawmakers saw fit to keep their anti-sodomy law on the books, banning “deviate sexual intercourse with another individual of the same sex.”
Texas is also where, in 1998, a Houston police officer arrested a gay couple in a private residence for breaking that law by engaging in “homosexual conduct.”
It’s also the state where a lawsuit over that arrest reached the U.S. Supreme Court. It ruled in 2003 that anti-sodomy laws are unconstitutional.
Lawrence v. Texas told states — Texas wasn’t the only one — to stay out of people’s bedrooms, because, you know, due process, liberty and privacy.
Policing private, consensual behavior between adults is also ridiculous, even if the couple engaged in such sexual relations is straight and married.
But this is Texas, where far-right extremists continue to meddle in places where they have no business, including who uses what bathroom, what sex one was at birth and what teams they can play on.
They especially want to control what Texas women do with their bodies, limiting their health care options to death.
What certain men do in private is also a concern for the far-right, so keeping a so-called “zombie” sodomy law in place is important to them, even if unenforceable.
It’s the symbolism of hate that counts.
The Texas House of Representatives bravely but narrowly voted 59-56 to strike the law and send House Bill 1738 to the Senate.
It’s interesting to note that an early ballot came in at 72 for repeal and 55 against.
Sen. José Menendez, D-San Antonio, is offering to sponsor the Senate version and hopes it’s assigned to a committee.
Time is against him.
The Legislature wraps up its session in early June.
I expect that the state’s Republican leadership, headed by Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick in the Senate, will determine that repealing the anti-sodomy law isn’t good for politics.
Giving Democrats and sane Republicans a win isn’t good in the hate business.
Instead, by letting a so-called “zombie” law stay in place, Republicans can look to the next election and use it to feed its extremist masses.
They haven’t seen enough zombie movies.
Zombies are capable of rising from the dead.
So, this is still the Lone Star State, where politicians can be cruel and their voters more so.
It’s part of our nation’s legacy of intolerance, starting with colonial statutes that criminalized sexual acts.
Those early arrivals were hell-bent on enacting laws that punished homosexual activity in particular.
Those found guilty got the death penalty.
According to the Death Penalty Information Center, things started to look up after the American Revolution.
It found that “in 1796, New Jersey passed ‘An Act for the Punishment of Crimes’ that made sodomy punishable by a fine and solitary confinement with hard labor for no more than 21 years.”
The center said 20th-century state legislatures continued to focus on criminalizing homosexuality.
“Several sodomy laws were expanded to include oral sex,” it said.
“In the 1950s, state and nationwide ‘witch hunts’ of homosexual men ensued, and hate-based rhetoric equated consensual adult sex with child molestation.”
Human Rights Watch, the independent group that monitors and investigates human rights abuses worldwide, maintains the origins of anti-sodomy laws rest in British colonialism.
Here’s the hope in this story.
A bipartisan team led HB1738. It’s the first time a bill has gotten this far in several decades of trying.
That’s a remarkable feat.
Rep. Venton Jones of Dallas, who is openly gay and was born when this fight to repeal the law began, authored the bill. In his success, he remembered those who came before him.
“I am standing on the shoulders of people who have carried this bill before me, and that’s where I get my strength,” he said.
Jones didn’t build his case on the Supreme Court ruling.
Instead, he asked his colleagues “to vote for a law that upholds the principles that Texans should have the freedom and ability to make their own private decisions without unwarranted government interference.”
Even one of the worst lawmakers in the state, U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, supports repealing the state law.
But this is Texas, where an unconstitutional law is likely to remain in the penal code.
Far-right Christian nationalists will raise their Bibles in unison.
The rest of us can carry on the march toward sanity that the Texas House began.
Brad Pritchett, interim CEO of Equality Texas, said people hear “gay rights” and imagine all sorts of things.
But their struggle is simple. It’s “the privacy to live our lives in peace.”
And no one — gay or straight — can live in peace when zombies can come back from the dead.
It is absolutely wild to me that America is having a groomer panic when the supreme court basically just told Mormons they can diddle children and not report it because "religious freedom" and I'm really starting to wonder when this "religious freedom" stops if not reporting literally the worst crime you can commit is fine under the guise of God. Perhaps these people would be fine with a father murdering his daughter because she had premarital sex and that brought dishonor on the family, or are they against that only because they associate so called "honor killings" with Muslims? Because the way it's going they are ONE stop away from genuinely arguing this with the way they've allowed religion to shit all over everyone else's rights by holding the feelings of Christians above literally everything else, including CSA victims. Religious freedom is not the right to take away everyone else's rights regardless of what a Certain Brand of Christian thinks. Especially when the only religion that gets this freedom in the US (and Canada) is Christianity.
Like don't panic about groomers if you're going to make it legal for Mormons to rape children and do nothing about it, and instead of calling trans people pedos come out and saw what you mean because I'm tired of the political right couching everything they say in coded fucking language so they can hide their actual intentions. If you need to do this much subterfuge to hide your political goals you damn well KNOW your ideas are unpopular and fucked up I wish these people were even a quarter as oppressed as they think they are because then we'd actually start violently and virulently questioning literally everything about everything whenever a republican or a conservative opened their fucking face instead of only doing that to people we don't like while accepting whatever horse shit falls out of the political rights ass no matter how ridiculous or who gets hurt, children they want to "save" so bad included.

(Taken from Facebook, my feed regenerated and I forget where exactly it is from, so I apologize for not giving the right person due credit. However, I think it is important enough to be spread around even if it is not properly attributed.) Trump’s West Point speech was packed with the kind of lunacy our mainstream media has tried to normalize for a decade but it sure doesn’t seem normal to me. In front of a crowd of cadets who had signed up to serve while Biden was president, Trump declared, “Just about a year ago, it was a big story, front page of every paper all over the world, that nobody wanted to enlist in our military,” completely ignoring the fact that just about every graduate in the room had done exactly that. He veered off into unrelated boasts, at one point claiming, “I rebuilt the military. We rebuilt it like nobody has ever rebuilt it before in my first term,” and even managed to squeeze in, “It gives us the right to do what we want to do,” making the event sound more like a campaign rally than a graduation.
The speech only got stranger as Trump wandered onto subjects like yachts, trophy wives, and even took time to attack celebrities, calling George Clooney a “fake movie actor.” He also boasted, “Sorry losers and haters, but my I.Q. is one of the highest – and you all know it! Please don’t feel so stupid or insecure, it’s not your fault.” His tendency to make everything about himself was on full display, and he only shook hands with a few select cadets, leaving most graduates unacknowledged.
In sharp contrast, Biden’s West Point address was uplifting, inclusive, and centered on the graduates and their future service. He told the cadets, “You’re about to become full-time members of the most honorable and the most consequential fighting force in the history of the world, that’s not hyperbole, of the world. That’s the truth.” Biden highlighted their diverse backgrounds and achievements, saying, “You make our entire nation proud, and that’s not hyperbole. You do.” He reminded them to “hold fast to your values you learned here at West Point: duty, honor, country,” and emphasized, “We’re the only country in the world founded on an idea, not figuratively, literally. And the idea is we’re all created equal, deserve to be treated equally throughout our lives”.
Most tellingly, Biden stood for over an hour, shaking the hand of every single graduate, making a point to honor each cadet personally. His speech was a celebration of service, unity, and American ideals, leaving the class inspired and seen, a far cry from Trump’s self-congratulatory, grievance-filled performance. What an embarrassment that man is to our country.

JK Rowling decided to continue denying Nazi persecution of trans people, so I updated the list to 55 names I could personally confirm the status of. Added some new colorized photos, too! This is only a fraction of 160+ known trans individuals located by activist Jako Wende, which itself is a fraction of the true scope of anti-trans persecution during the Third Reich. In the early afternoon of 29 November last year, several Palestinian boys descended on to their street in the occupied West Bank, where they often played together.Minutes later, two of them lay dead from gunshots fired by Israeli soldiers - Basil, 15, and eight-year-old Adam. As part of an investigation into the conduct of Israel's security forces in the West Bank, which has been under military occupation for more than half a century, the BBC has pieced together what happened on the day the two boys were killed. Mobile phone and CCTV footage, information about the movements of Israel's military, witness testimony and detailed investigation of the scene, including taking measurements, combine to reveal evidence suggesting serious human rights violations. The evidence we found has prompted Ben Saul, UN special rapporteur on human rights and counter-terrorism, to say the death of Adam appears to be a "war crime".Another legal expert, Dr Lawrence Hill-Cawthorne, described the use of lethal force as “indiscriminate”. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the circumstances of the deaths were “under review” but said “live fire is used only in order to remove immediate threats or for arrest purposes, following arrest protocols after exhausting other options”.
Video footage from 29 November shows Basil standing next to a hardware store, its shutters firmly locked down. When Israel's military arrives, shops close quickly in Jenin, a city in the West Bank - Palestinian territory which, unlike Gaza, is not run by Hamas. Witnesses said gunfire had been ringing out from a nearby operation by Israel's army in the Jenin refugee camp. Adam, a football fanatic and massive Lionel Messi fan, stood with his older brother Baha, 14. There were about nine boys on the street in total, all captured on CCTV cameras that provided a nearly 360-degree view of what happened next.
A few hundred metres away, a convoy of at least six armoured Israeli military vehicles turned a corner and began heading towards the boys, who clearly became uneasy. Several of the boys started to move away. At this precise moment, mobile phone footage shows the front door of an armoured vehicle opened. The soldier inside had a direct view of the boys. Basil had darted into the middle of the road, while Adam was 12m further from the soldiers, running away. Then at least 11 gunshots rang out.
Medical reports obtained by the BBC show that two shots hit Basil in the chest. Another bullet struck eight-year-old Adam in the back of the head as he ran away; his older brother Baha desperately tried to drag him to cover, leaving a trail of blood as he screamed for an ambulance.
Reminder when the IOF killed Shireen, a journalist, on duty, wearing the press vest, and the attacked the funeral and beat up her mourners who were trying desperately not to drop her coffin.
Reminder that Shireen was christian. None of this was about Muslims vs Jews
Reminder that none of this madness started on Oct 7th. Israel always targeted the press to cover the truth.
