Migraines make me feel like that prophetic rabbit from Watership Down. Fiver. Like the terrible whole body shivering and burning skull and teeth must presage awful events, each symptom an omen of terror to come.
I'm a little obsessed with seers and thinking about that is my coping mechanism for this cluster. Also, tracking migraines, I figured out they come in clusters. Beautiful brilliant great. I love it. I can predict the future! And the future is painful.
At least I know it ends. That's a pretty good thing to know.

i've seen the sentiment before that chester's first incident reading was very much a "DON'T GO TO THE FUCKING MAGNUS INSTITUTE" message. but now with this one... i think it's highly likely that chester is actively encouraging sam to get more entrenched in this mystery.
this week's incident was pulled up in direct response to sam considering dropping his investigations while talking to celia. a convenient "but wait, there's more! i promise there's not just dead ends!" to keep sam hooked, to draw him (and alice in tow) back to the institute.
which, of course, brings up the question once again of what the fuck chester (and norris and augustus) is (and what its relations to our favorite archivist are) which is not a question we can answer yet but oh i am so excited to find out. at least, i think the idea that chester is directly jon, or.. i dunno, his ghost or whatever, is not supported by this.
this new incident also imo reframes the potential “intent” behind the redcanary incident. from a warning of stay away to a warning of this is dangerous, but there’s so much more to be investigated here. imo.. a be ready for it. i think whatever chester is it wants sam to investigate the institute, but not die in doing so.
This bird has a poisoned apple for Snow White
"Hunt Bowman" what an egregiously masc name. Just ferociously bro. I can smell the Axe body spray from here.
Description below cut.
Image ID: a comic book cover in a warm, even hot, palette of reds. At top in large font: Planet Comics. Smaller font: No. 63, Winter. 10 cents. Circular icon: Fiction House Magazines. In the foreground, the cover depicts a blonde woman in a white dress with a bright red belt and green helmet with wires coming off it. She climbs a rope ladder to the top of a metal ship, but at the top, what appears to be a man-ant hybrid has shot the ladder with some kind of gun. The woman drops her revolver and stares in shock at the man-ant. Through a window in the side of the ship, we see a uniformed man at the controls, firing the ship's guns at a giant lizard stalking them through a lava field. Outside, a man in the same uniform swings from the ladder and shoots with his own revolver at the same giant lizard. In the background, a massive blue drill bursts from the lava, while hazy reddish clouds obscure the ruins of a city. A text block over the right of the image reads: "Paradise or Inferno? Hunt Bowman battles to preserve his citadel of freedom from Voltan vengeance in Lost World! Also other top features." End image ID.
Judging by the lava field, it's not going so well.
Evil wish fulfillment, a la monkey's paw
Honestly “Desires” might not entirely be it. I think it may be sort of a “Careful what you wish for”
“I just wanted to make people laugh” okay well nightmare clown
“I wanted to play the role of the mysterious stranger” okay. Truck crash
“I wanted to prove my thesis.” How about such an intimate experience with it that you will never be the same
It’s like these people are experiencing the consequences of obsession in real time dialed up to 11
I don't know this emotion
For all non-uk magnus protocol listeners I need you to know that Mr Bonzo is a 100% real thing (asides from the murder stuff... I think...) which existed as a skit on UK television. he was called Mr Blobby but it was literally the exact same thing. from the weird voice to the freaky character to design to the failed theme parks (blobbyland was a thing) even to the number 1 hit. PLEASE look if you haven't seen this before
Riley running from his bad choices to go play hero, then blaming it on Buffy and using it as an ultimatum to punish her for her lack of emotional vulnerability, is just such a wild fucking twist. That's leaving out the gory vamp bordello and the mom cancer details.
And then the narrative is like "they're willing victims. They don't deserve Buffy's help. Buffy the vampire slayer wants to slay those vampires for selfish reasons!"
And then the torturing? With a plastic stake? Bruh
Masterpiece of character assassination. At this point, after so many rewatches, I can only pity Riley for being the narrative's dumb tool.
"Hey I just cheated on you. Decide you still want me or I disappear."
