Right Whales:

The other genus of the Balaenidae family is composed of three species. The three of them are mostly distinguished from each other by distribution or genetic analysis.

The particularity of this genus is the callosities that grow below its mandible that provide the perfect habitat for colonies of whale lice, a form of crustacean, that cannot live in open waters and found this whale the perfect way to travel comfortably. It is a *symbiosis, however, scientists cannot explain concretely why.

Among the three, the Southern Right Whale is the only one that is not in danger, being the North Atlantic Right Whale the one in most critical danger of extinction. This is probably related to its whereabouts which is in areas where humans have been doing whaling for centuries.

I am actually not in total disagreeing with whaling. Not that I will ever participate in such an event or even try something that comes from a whale. However, in some cultures is ingraining for centuries and was extremely important for the survival of humans.

Whaling should be banned today? For us might be a big bold no as an answer because it doesn't affect us at all. But what about if the consumption of chicken or cow is banned? We might say that there is not a relation between both. However, some cultures see the consumption of whales in the way we see the consumption of chicken. Are chicken endangered? Of course not, but the way we are consuming it is putting in danger the whole planet.

Maybe whales are way more charismatic, mysterious and magnificent than chickens but in the end, they both are living beings and if we are going to advocate for one, we should advocate for both. Just to be fair.

*Symbiosis: interaction between two different organisms living in close physical association, typically to the advantage of both.

Somali Wild Ass Equus africanus somaliensis Family: Equidae Genus: Equus Conservation Status: Critically Endangered

There are fewer than 1,000 African Wild Asses left in the wild, and they are classified as Critically Endangered. This might be surprising, considering that Donkeys are commonly seen animals. However, there are several reasons why these animals are on the brink of extinction, and some subspecies have already disappeared. ____________________________ Thank you guys for your attention. I made a mistake in my last post. I confused the Long-Beaked Common Dolphin species with its subspecies the Arabian Common Dolphin. They are so alike that I am actually surprised I was able to notice the difference. The Long Baked Common Dolphin's beak is notably shorter and its body is a little bit slimmer that the subspecies. Colorwise is not a good way to tell because the variations are plenty and both, species and subspecies can present these variations. As far as I know, the Arabian Common Dolphin can be elevated to a species. More studies need to be conducted but that is the indicator.

Long-Beaked Common Dolphin

The Long-Beaked Common Dolphin was once thought to be the same species as the Short-Beaked Dolphin, but recent research has confirmed that they are, in fact, distinct species. Unlike their short-beaked cousins, this species tends to stay closer to the coast.

While not as abundant as the Short-Beaked Dolphin (which is the most common dolphin species), the Long-Beaked Common Dolphin is not currently classified as threatened or endangered. Some scientists have suggested the existence of subspecies within this species, but only the Arabian Common Dolphin has been officially recognized.

An illustrated poster with all the rhinos of the world. Is the most complete compilation because includes all the subspecies, even the ones that are extinct.

It took time to search, compile and corroborate information. Some of the extinct subspecies' quality photographs weren't good and some others didn't even have, so I had to base them on written descriptions.

Moreover, illustrating a rhino is not easy. Is a meticulous job. A rhino has a lot of textures that take time to do if you want to make it believable (an average of 10 hours per rhino). it drained me and I found myself exhausted at the end. But worthed it. I love animals, I love rhinos and I love to study them and share what I learned.

Poster Balaenidae and Cetotheriidae Family. Although not related, however similar and for many years thought to belong to the same family, The Pygmy Right Whale is the only extant member of the Cetotheriidae family. Despite its size, The biggest difference from the Balaenidae family is that the Pygmy whale has a dorsal fin and its mouth is not as big in proportion to its body as the other Right Whales. Indian Spotted Chevrotain

Nocturnal as its relative, the Indian Spotted Chevrotain spends the days hidden in hollow trees or close to piles of leaves which serve him as camouflage due to its fur's color.

Is still common and its status is not to worry. However, it used to be seen in all Indian territory up to the South of Nepal. Nowadays, hasn't been seen in Nepal and if ever found, it is very likely is highly endangered.

The Spotted Chevrotain is a vital link in the food chain because many predators feed on him. Therefore, its protection is crucial to maintaining the equilibrium of nature.
