The Witch: Part 1 - The Subversion (2018)
୨୧╼ It was rare that Violet was offered a reprieve from the atrocities that tortured the world. Sometimes she felt as if she were on the outside looking in – separate from those around her. In all this chaos she had to admit, she was not surprised that the first kindred soul she had met in quite some time was at a bookstore. Regrettably for them both, in front of the self-help isle.
Violet could not help but be anxious about Nell’s arrival. As she could not recall the last time, she invited someone over for enjoyment. Especially someone so pretty and interesting. She wanted to make a good impression and felt like it had to be flawless. So, she decided it was best to set up their date was in the library. There were shelves stuffed with books on a variety of subjects and luxe but well-loved furniture was strewn about. By the lit fireplace was a sprawled-out blanket. Covered with an eclectic assortment of Chinese food.
“Ever since I was a child, I always felt safest surrounded by books. My parents always said that well-read people are less likely to be evil. I thought you may enjoy to see my inner sanctum.” Violet made her way over to the blanket, “I hope you do not mind. I always loved picnics. Please, sit down and make yourself comfortable. Do you require a pillow?” With a gentle smile she made her way to a small bar in the corner of the room. “May I get you something to drink? Wine? Beer? I also have a plethora of non-alcoholic beverage if you so choose.”

୨୧╼ It was a rarity that Violet went out. The world was a horrifying place filled with dreadful people. Yet one had to pay the bills – even if they were in hiding. Mostly she did repairs and restoration. This time she had fixed and improved a rather popular karaoke bar’s machine. When the owner of the establishment offered her a few free drinks in the VIP section for her hard work, Beatrice insisted she take them up on it. Saying that Violet spent so much of her life helping and protecting others, she forgot to do things for herself. Reluctantly she agreed, as it had been some time since she had mingled in a public place.
When people began to flood the club, Violet felt a bit overwhelmed. Especially when seemingly well-known individuals entered. Not one to keep up with popular culture, she did not recognize them. It was the reactions to their entrance that was an indicator of their popularity. It always felt so alienating to be out of the loop in an unfamiliar setting.
As the club became more boisterous – Violet needed a break. She made her way to the VIP bathroom for a break. Thankful for an area not so densely populated. A sigh left her mouth, as she looked at her reflection in the mirror. “What are you doing? You don’t belong here.” A sigh left painted lips, as she shook her head. It was then she noticed sound from the other side of the bathroom. So lost in thought and self-loathing, she didn’t realize anyone else was there. It was dangerous for her to be so neglectful of her surroundings. She had to get it together. “My apologies – I didn’t realize anyone else was here.”
