Emmie, Keith and I (as Sound Tracks) had a great time leading a workshop at the 2016 Mental Wealth Festival. The festival was held at City Lit, Covent Garden and was jointly hosted by City Lit and Beyond Words. We had the opportunity of meeting a variety of professionals in the world of learning disability and presented some of the ideas from our new sessions: Around the World in 80 Minutes.

Keep an eye out for it next year - as I am sure there will be lots of interesting talks and workshops at no or a low fee.

Great that you can get free audio guide - easy to navigate & runs smoothly - couple of feedback things though - would be good if 'back' button just went back to previous page rather than home page as need to scroll through again to art works and some kind of map navigation tool/map on it would be great....

Well I do believe that winter is just about here… and so before it fully arrives I wanted to upload some of my favourite photographs of the beautiful London Autumn with the crisp but stunning light… it may be like that every year, however, I noticed it specifically this year :)

Learnt all I know about how to have great learning interactions in museums. (My montessori training coming in handy too!) Can't recommend highly enough.

A few years old but very interesting article about the time when there were four cinemas in Crystal Palace. At the moment the long ongoing campaign to bring back just one cinema continues with a dedicated team - Found on Twitter as: @picturepalace … They also posted this article on Facebook as ('Picture Palace Campaign') … Another worthy heritage cause that would have a present and future impact!

tascam tried out outside...

So yesterday I had the help of a friend to try out my new tascam audio recorder! Epping Forest - well a side road was the destination and all seemed to go ok! I just need to be brave and go out and practice myself now. We tried out my lovely rycote windjammer and tried out different recording levels and a couple of microphone positions. I'll maybe upload an excerpt at some point! If anyone wants to know any more technicalities then I can let them know.

I've also been thinking a bit more about interview questions for people contributing. I already have a list, but as I get nearer that point and talk with people, it becomes a bit clearer I think. In the past day or so I have decided that it would be a good idea to concentrate on a first few initial locations for the purpose of my course project. If there are more stories to be told, then I can continue with them in my own time. I feel like it takes the pressure off a bit to have a complete tour and it written about before the end of August! I shall see! I am thinking of concentrating on the top of the park, because the bottom already has the dinosaur audio tour. I'll keep you updated!

Where my final project started in earnest. On this trip to Crystal Palace Park with O, I'd been tweeting (for my previous project) as one of the Crystal Palace sphinxes and O seemed to be intrigued and interested in this. She wanted to go to the park and try and translate the hieroglyphs. We ended up making a video about the out trip and basically O just enjoyed hanging out by the sphinxes. It was as if she was at home there and as if she had a connection with them because I did. We visited again a few weeks later and a similar thing happened. I felt inspired in the connection that O made with the area and in the film she made (by directing me) and definitely got me truly thinking about using media to create some form of trail for engaging people... and audio in the main....
