Ok so as much as I joke and fawn, i actually don't ship very many characters: most of the pairings I talk about are either platonic or queerplatonic to me.

However.

Fucking Hellerby.

And it's weird, because it's a bordelrine crackship with nebulously little canon content, but by god what content there is is wonderful.

It's this fantastic combination of an absurd base-personalities dynamic with the more nuanced intrcacies of the characters which makes it work. It's very functionality requires you to acknowledge these two as more than just "monotone, brutal, asocial" and "reckless, animated, goofy" and it makes me imeasurably happy. They don't have potential because of their basic opposites attract ideal, they have potential because they are both incredibly intelligent (albiet in very different ways), and willing to entertain each other beyond what others often are (again, for different reasons).

They are both finding a person who will neither dismiss nor patronise them, while also finding a person who is perfectly willing to meet them in a conversation and go with it. It's because their personality traits have such a specific amount of overlap, and those traits which are individual are so wildly distant from each other, that they make such an interesting pairing. Mordecai will defaultedly brush past the theatrics which would usually be used to blanket statement everything Rocky says as crazy talk, because that's how he treats most every social quirk, and in turn finds a partner who enthusiatically indulges his more "unimportant" topics. Rocky is willing to roll with whatever concrete stance Mordecai takes, just happy to be talking, but also raising his own genuine arguments and ideas, and he absolutely delights in being able to present those ideas to somebody who will take them at utterly face value and rebuke with an equally plain reaction. Rocky isn't stupid, Mordecai isn't socially inept, but they are each one of the few people who recognise that.

The pancakes comic remains my favourite, not only because it's charming and taught me what dadaism is, but also because it's this wonderful example of two characters who are so rarely honestly relaxed and speaking to their casual whim. Which might be the best part of this ship: it will never happen in canon. The sheer level of environmental neutrality required for these two to even interact in a manner that doesn't involve bullets is absolutely nowhere in the area code of feasible in the comic of show, and honestly, that's my favourite part, because it allows the fandom to go wild with what we do have, and circumvent the circumstances in creative, interesting ways.

What if they were together before Mordecai joined the Marigolds, and we're watching the aftermath of a betrayal that can't be acknowledged by nature of the relationship betrayed?

What if they're maintaining tumultuous contact despite their opposing alliances?

What if, in some perfect future where they both make it past their next birthday, they're able ro connect or reconnect? What if we wrote and drew and talked about that?

Just finished Moontouched VN demo by S.Anima on itch.io, I love the world building! Tho i need to reread for better understanding lol... And the VISUALS in this vn SERVE so hard! The cgs, bgs, ui is simply stunning 😭. I can't wait to learn more about the story.
