@imaginative-ink discovered @bonkalore ‘s Moongene AU and dragged me into Moongene Hell.

Doesn’t help I was already writing a Rage!Eugene AU that begged to become a Moongene AU.

That must have been a pretty intense fall into a thorn bush Varian took there.

I need someone to lobotomize me because why was that my first thought.

Genuinely obsessed with the shadows on Eugene’s face from Varian’s hair. I’ve been staring at them for ten minutes. I also like the shadows from the vines , and the textures in the wall. This is just my way of saying I love dappled (??) light. (I wish I could find the right word)

The grain texture too! It gives it such an angry/ tunnel vision feel. The subtle anger and acceptance in Eugene’s expression are portrayed perfectly! The colors are amazing too! It gives it suck a “stuck in the moment” vibe.

The posters are fun too, love the line work! Also the poster next to Eugene’s knee looks like it says “SMILE!”

New Headcanon: Eugene lost the Double Headed Edmund Coin when he was going to sell it in a desperate attempt to get rid of the debt he had with the Baron - because it probably was A Genuine Gold Double Headed Coin From A Dead Kingdom

Yes I'm assuming that coin collectors existed in whatever time Tangled is bc how unclear in the time period they end up being (plus being a fantasy)

And yes I'm assuming it's a true one and not a magicians coin that Lance found lying around, though I'm not going to brush aside the possibility that Eugene and Lance genuinely thought it was fake.

I love Seapartist Varian’s design. Maybe it’s the giant trench coat.

Hot take:

Saporian!Varian has some excellent character design

Now, I don’t *like* his outfit, but it works so well in representing where he was at in those moments. He’s trying so hard to be a villain, to repress all the guilt he’s drowning in, and to parallel that his outfit is just… it’s not him, it looks like someone trying a little too hard with the villain costume. Like someone let him wander a bit too long in hot topic.

Even the barcode goatee I fear makes sense even though I refuse to ever draw it 😭/SILLY

How do you feel about Hugo x Eugene`?

I’ve been getting asks like this a lot lately, I can’t tell if it’s all the same person.

I said this before, but I’m not into shipping. They only things I really ship in Tangled is New dream (Rapunzel x Eugene) occasionally I ship Varigo and Unkighted (Eugene x Rapunzel x Cassandra). But that’s it.

Also the age gap between Hugo and Eugene is weird. Like it’s legal I guess, but that’s a very low bar. 18 and 27-30 are wildly different.

I see it more as Eugene originally despising Hugo because he’s dating his cousin and he’s and overprotective, but he warms up and likes him eventually. All platonic tho.

I can see how a recent thing I drew could cause some confusion so let me set the record straight:

I DO NOT ship Varidrew. I personally think it’s gross and predatory.

I’m overall not into shipping. So unless it cannon or say I ship it, it’s safe to say I don’t.

I forgot how goatee :( for better or for worse.

I LOVE Seapartist Varian's design. And I wanted to do something with symbolism and Andrew rose fore a while. Originally I wanted something where the rose would cover Varian's face but I decided not to. Then I thought it would be fun to make parallels to what Andrew did to Cassandra, Also I don't know who needs to hear this but this IS NOT ship art.

I had a hard time adding the pattern, I didn't know where to add them. They aren't my favorite but theyll do. I added the lanterns just for lighting and contrast tbh

The hardest part of this drawing was definitely the foreshorting and the colors. I drew the pose before the background and had NO idea where to place them. I was thinking to just make it a one off sketch until I realized I could put them on a balloon. Here's some sketches.

This is so gorgeous. The contrasting desaturated colors <3 the fireworks for framing. The poses!!

What I would do for the giant floppy sleeves varian has on. Also as the resident sparkler experts, Varian holding it so close to Hugo’s face is slightly frightening. But I can imagine him shoving it up his nose like this:
