I think it is hilarious that when Dazai left his little villain perch in the mafia, he couldn’t quite shake the innate urge to be a menace and his only outlet is tormenting select coworkers at the ADA (Kunikida) to feed the evil little monster at the back of his mind that does a delighted little victory dance every time he manages to make Kunikida’s blood pressure rise and it is hilarious to me that he actually gets twitchy when he can’t get a rise out of Kunikida and starts foaming at the mouth bc he needs his evil fix for the day

I do like him with his wife but i love ares too much XD. I would love if you would read my fic!!!! Its a Percy Jackson one bc i needed the base to write the pantheon as I see them. Its a ‘reading the books’ fic thats trying to solve the mystery of why the gods are some wierd hollowed out shells of their mythical selves(sorry Rick but you did my favs dirty) with a heavy focus on the gods who were super bashed in the books. Lots of Apollo/Dionysus bc they are my children. Im planning on updating soon.

I see your Ares/Hermes but I raise you Ares/Aphrodite/Hephaestus with Ares/Hermes also in an open and consensual (non-cheating) relationship. Lmao this is what I wrote in a fic and I loved their dynamics so here you go. Also Apollo/Dionysus all the way!!!

I'm more into Hephaestus/Aglaia (his wife), but i argee that Ares/Hephaestus/Aphrodite would have been a cool solution to the messy affair drama :) Also I would love to read your fic!!

The Breakfast Club - John Bender

image

READ ONLY IF YOU WATCHED THE MOVIE.

If you’re a fan of the movie, grab a snack, this is gonna take a while…

Can some people please take a minute to remember this movie was released in 1985, so that was 37 years ago. The attitude was different back then, literally everything was different, even people’s mindset. So when you want to judge a film, think about the time of release, and how life used to be at that time. I’m so glad this movie was released before social media. Also, some people in the comments section are talking like these characters were meant to be perfect, which is the exact opposite of the idea behind the film, remember they are just kids! It’s all about the struggles of teenagers, not adults.

The Breakfast Club’s confession scene is one of the movie’s most pivotal and revealing, and it was also surprisingly UNSCRIPTED by the film’s cast. How powerful and amazing is that. The Director John Hughes left the confession scene largely unscripted, aiming for authenticity that was less likely to occur naturally if the actors simply delivered lines. While other small parts of the film (such as Bender’s unfinished “blonde woman” joke, and the “I forgot my pencil’’ line) were also improvised, it is incredible that the actors were able to successfully ad-lib such an important scene. Even the ICONIC one where Bender puts his fist up into the air as he walks across a football field with the quintessential Simple Minds’ track “Don’t You Forget About Me” blaring offscreen, originally, Hughes wanted Judd Nelson to walk across the field while the sunset showed brilliant behind him. Without Hughes’ direction, Nelson thrusted his fist into the air, and everybody, including Hughes, marveled at this stunningly natural improvised and fitting character choice. The ending has since become a beloved and unforgettable piece of moviemaking that is often referenced in pop culture, films, and television shows. It truly gives me chills every single time.

I wanna get real deep into my favorite of the bunch; John Bender (Played by Judd Nelson), who despite having conflicts with his own abusive father and even the school’s strict principal, is a fearless leader who’s willing to stop at nothing until things are settled just the way he imagined them. In a way they looked to him as the leader sometimes later in the film. He carries a knife because he’s scared that at any point anyone could be a threat and he has to keep up his guard. Also, The scene in the closet with Vernon shows his vulnerability.  Vernon locks bender in and threatens to hurt him physically is such a raw and emotional scene for me, because it showcases that bender clearly isn’t the person he’s trying to be, but that it’s rather a front to avoid getting hurt. in that scene, Vernon has severely misjudged bender’s character and confronts him with violence, just like bender’s father. bender doesn’t fight back, because he’s in a position of weakness. Vernon is a grown adult, towering over him and using his power to push bender down. again, just like bender’s father. His whole life he’s been at the mercy of an abusive father so he feels the need to protect himself. Judd Nelson in describing Bender’s character he said “He’s always angry and bitter for the way he was treated in school and at home his entire life, that’s why he spends most of his time trying to pull the other people down to his level, this level where he feels they’ve put him.”

Bender was in detention for pulling a false fire alarm, it feels like he wanted to get the detention. I feel like the reason Bender kept getting Saturdays was because it meant less time at home with his father. It was an escape. I don’t agree with his attitude of course, and I’m not justifying any of his actions, but I can understand his trauma and what all of his manners are coming from. After all, he’s a powerful character.

Even if he leans towards the dark side, he’s so vulnerable, but super intelligent, witty, articulate, verbally adept, quick on his feet, extremely capable, and if you noticed when he talks, he has expensive vocabulary, with the best comebacks ever.

I really loved the scene where he gets himself caught by Vernon in order to get the rest detainees from getting in more trouble kinda proves he’s more that an arrogant kid with a devil may care attitude. He was a selfless guy who was willing to take the proverbial bullet for others. Remember the part when Claire told Allison and Brian if they came up to her in school she would ignore them, Bender was so angry and told her “You know how shitty this is to do to someone.” Also. when he told her that “you can’t stand up to your friends and tell them that you’re gonna like who you wanna like.” That was great point, that popular kids only cares about people’s opinion. He hated that. Behind his hoody, bad boy persona, he cares about friendship, and i think there’s more to him than his exterior.

About the way he was a jerk to Claire (especially the confession scene), I hated it but it’s pretty obvious that he liked her from the start. He was mean to her, but in the film they’re showing how Bender is a vulnerable 16 years old kid who’s afraid of rejection, that’s why he’s taking this method with a girl he’s assuming he would never get. He is used to being treated as worthless, that he rejects everyone before they can reject him, that’s why through bitterness and rudeness according to him, he’s protecting himself. He’s rude especially to Claire because he cares about being rejected by her, it’s possible that to him even having then hate him is better than having then not think of him at all. He’s not justified, but maybe understood. He describes himself as “A freak” when he was talking to Claire, it’s in the deleted scenes of the movie, and that’s probably why deep down all he wanted to be accepted. Don’t forget he’s a victim of abuse, he just needed someone to believe in him, and that was obvious in the closet scene when Vernon he wanted him to become violent, even threatened him, John looked paralyzed and scared, he was reminded of his father, beating him, burning him with his cigar… the realization in his eyes that there’s no escaping from the abuse was sad. The movie wanted to show the damaged, abused, scared kid, a typical teen who just wanted to be accepted, and how he would deal with everything and everyone around him.  All I know is this movie is really deep.

I always like to analysis any characters that I like before giving my judgment. I remember as a teenager I liked Bender as the rebellious, bad boy, and sarcastic guy! But growing up, and when you get old enough, after watching the movie over and over again, my idea of this character changed to see him on a deeper level. You realize that Bender is the most important character. He’s the one that broke the conformity and he made them all see each other for who they really are.

Judd Nelson made an iconic character, despite his flaws. People still dress up as John Bender for Halloween, to this day. He might’ve invented the ‘bad boy/young criminal’ character in Hollywood. I read a comment once, and i couldn’t get it out of my head, it says “If Judd Nelson had died after making this film, he would have been regarded as a modern day James Dean.” I couldn’t agree more.

People are forgetting that this movie teaches that every generation are raised by the one before, it means they are responsible for teaching their kids what’s right and what’s wrong. They don’t realize it’s people like them that make them the way they are currently.

The Breakfast Club is a timeless masterpiece. It’s the one movie they could never remake. Great decade. Best music. Best movies.

I think I wrote an essay, mainly about Bender, because he was the most complicated, important, and damaged character. Sorry, that was really long, but I was re-watching this iconic movie, and i wanted to share my opinion. All of this, just my personal opinion, and my own point of view.

Check this interview with Judd, you’ll be surprised of how intelligent, charismatic, witty and well-spoken he is:

Reactions to tragedy

In real life, pretty much everybody reacts to tragedy differently. So why is it that every author has their pet reaction to tragedy that all their characters use? Not only is it unrealistic, but it takes away the chance for the characters’ different reactions to reveal things about themselves.

Possible reactions to tragedy (not an exhaustive list):

Distracting oneself with mindless activities

Distracting oneself with others’ humor

Distracting oneself by making jokes

Distracting oneself by reading/watching/playing stories

Distracting oneself with hard mental work

Distracting oneself with hard physical work

Distracting oneself with creative endeavors

Distracting oneself by chatting with friends about normal things

Talking to friends about the tragedy

Talking to authority figures about the tragedy

Talking anonymously with strangers about the tragedy (if possible)

Getting wrapped up in others’ problems

Staying unusually silent

Screaming

Crying loudly

Crying silently

Doing everything possible not to cry

Pacing

Taking unhealthy risks

Going for revenge against whoever one can blame

Punching random objects

Throwing random objects

Lashing out against friends and family members

Trying to prevent a similar tragedy from happening

Eating more than usual

Not eating

Taking mind-altering substances

Getting in unhealthy relationships

Isolating oneself

Obsessing over routine

Numbness combined with apathy

Numbness combined with going through one’s normal motions

Trying to get things back the way they were

Denial

No reaction at first but a reaction hits later in greater force

No reaction at all. Emotions relating to the tragedy just fail to load. Note that this can happen to anybody and does not mark a character as a sociopath.

Characters can have more than one reaction at the same time, one reaction after another, or different reactions to different tragedies.

Teen Wolf Character Scents

Okay this might sound weird, but I’ve been reading a lot of Teen Wolf fic lately and it always puts a heavy emphasis on what the character smells like. Because...werewolf senses and everyone has a natural scent. I personally love this so here are my headcanons for what each characters natural scent would be!!!!!

(I give reasons for why I went with those things but some of the reasons themselves are headcanons, and some just came to me and have no reason at all besides that fact that i love it that way)

So background info: I headcanon some scents are from birth, while some are added/change based on experiences, temperament and emotions. You have your own scent and it does its own thing, even when you’re human. Humans cant smell them since they aren’t necessarily real, they are more a smell supernaturals pick up that’s a cryptic reflection of ones personality.

Stiles: Gotta start with the main boi!!!! He smells like spicy chili peppers, honey and everything spicy. He is wild and loud and so so sharp. He uses cutting anger and snark and sarcasm as a defense mechanism, this reflects in a scent that burns your nose. But he cares and loves a lot and is super soft, hence the honey. If you focus on his scent too much your eyes water with the chili. When he gets angry he send tears down everyone’s faces and even reddens the cheeks and burns the tongues of the supernatural pack members in his anger, his scent becoming physical as his spark acts up.

Peter: He smells like cold. Like cold, and petrichor and mint toothpaste. He always has. He smells like the cold of ice, the cold you smell when you open a freezer in the cold isle of the grocery store and like Vick’s Vaporub but 10x as strong. As the left hand of the pack it was his job to kill, to eliminate threats, his job to bear all the blood on his hands, to have his hands permanently stained sticky red and his eyes glow blue, so that no one else in the pack has to live with the guilt of murder, even when justified. His first kill was at 8 years old and he would never forgive the fact that he had been given that burden. So he became unmovable ice and unending cold. With the thick smell of rain for the warmth he would always keep hidden.

Theo: His scent is that of fresh, right off the smoker, BBQ sauce-soaked ribs and apple juice. Its a scent he was born with, one that reflects the gooey warmth of his soul and his innocence before he was manipulated and tortured. His scent always throws people off since it usually reflects ones personality and he’s not a good person by any means, he is amoral and cruel; and such a warm, soft scent doesn’t make sense. But his soul (though no longer pure) would always hold his original innocence. The apple juice isn’t actually his scent, but his sisters, her heart such a part of him that his guilt manifested her soul in his scent. And if you focus hard enough, underneath all that you can find the sting of bleach. His time with the dread doctors (and the fact that he was surgically tortured into being a chimera) leaving part of his scent mangled and altered into the artificial tang of bleach. The fact that he forced his scent to remain mostly unchanged throughout his life (which was worse than hell on earth) is Very Very Impressive, even more so when in the beginning he wasn’t even supernatural.

Scott: Our ever-sweet true alpha. He smells like overly sweet pink and blue cotton candy and hot, buttered, movie theater popcorn. He’s literally sugar and spice and everything nice. His morals and warmth translating to the hot popcorn and his perpetual smiling and niceness coming though as cotton candy. He smells like fairgrounds and the laughter of children. Underneath all that he bears the subtle scent of rust,  a permanent reminder of his forced change to the supernatural and permanent resentment of the burden he must bear (and the guilt about that resentment)

Derek: He smells of Sandalwood, Patchouli, and Frankincense. He always smells like incense and spices, like the inside of a stereotypical fortune tellers shop. He becomes heat, warmth, and flame. Something that pulls at his soul since the fire. Something that is a comfort to the wolves around him. He also smells heavily of smoke (something that makes Peter unable to be in the same room as him for longer than 30 minutes unless forced) because of his never-ending guilt about his family, something that seared the event into his scent. When he’s angry (which is a lot) his scent gets stronger and the incense smell becomes extremely heady and makes his betas lethargic.

Lydia: She smells like metal, like your hands after handling handfuls of change. She smells like she bathed in pennies, her standoffish coldness bringing the bitter smell to her scent. Since she became a banshee she also smells strongly of spider lilies (also know as hell flowers), japans flower of death. You would think the contrast between bitter metal and floral scents, so strong you choke, would be bad but its actually strangely comforting. And while bitter its the only thing that can get Jackson to relax some days. The scent of the only person there for him for over a decade-and-a-half sometimes even more comforting than the scent of his boyfriend.

Isaac: His scent is of strong cologne even though he never wears any, he smells like he bathed in the Mahogany Teakwood candle from Bath and Body Works, or lived in an Abercrombie & Fitch for 50 years. He always had that smell, even as a child, but it just gets stronger the more confidence he gains. His childhood innocence and cleanliness of soul translates as a strong laundry soap smell. But hidden underneath there's an undertone of metal, plastic, and cold; that takes over his scent when he's scared and overwhelmes everything in a mile radius. It takes the Pack far too long to realize it smells like a freezer and metal chains.

Allison: She smells strongly of ozone and static (not rain though, never rain). Her anger and righteous fury making her scent like electricity and making the static-y-ness tingle in everyone's nose - sometimes making Scott sneeze. Nothing in her scent is pleasant or comforting to everyone's confusion. Its only when she feels negative emotions that she smells like roses and summer. Its like a warning but in reverse, the opposite of what it should be. Bad scents usually mean bad emotions or feelings or memories, and good scents mean good moods and positive things but for her its the opposite. Just like how she took the opposite path then what was laid out for her.

Jackson: He smells very very heavily of cherries, his scent so strong and sweet its like he took a bath in a hot tub filled with cherry cough medicine, chloraseptic cherry sore throat spray, cherry pie, cherry starburst, cherry Jell-O, and maraschino cherries. Its thick and sticky and strong enough to drown out the scent and stick for hours on anyone standing near him or touching him and it lingers on the Pack members even if they haven’t seen each other for years. Case-in-point: Jackson left for England after the kanima thing and Isaac left for France not long after. When Isaac came back 6 years later (2 years after Jackson came back) he still had the smell on him pretty strongly. Why cherries? No one knows. But its thick as hell and stronger than epoxy when it binds to things together forever. The Pack thinks it stems with his identity and abandonment issues, but once he claims you he wont let go, not even his scent. He is very self conscious and embarrassed about it so its never discussed, and he’s been friends with Danny for so long that his scent almost drowns out Danny’s own.

Ethan: Ethan’s scent is subtle and barely there. He was the one who always stood in front of Aiden to protect them, and took the beatings when possible so his scent became as bland and barely-there as possible. The Pack can only smell his scent with intense focus and at least an hours meditation (unless you’re Aiden). He smells of freshly baked bread and homemade jam, comforting smells that easily calm Aiden down. In times of distress he smells of burnt toast, he scent twisting with negative memories. A reminder that all good things have eventually turned bad for him and his twin.

Aiden: Aiden on the other hand smells strongly like curry and lavender. An odd combination but one that speaks of his guarded- but angry, headstrong and stubborn- nature. The abuse left him angry and twitchy and paranoid, everything setting him off and his moods turning on a dime. His scent fluctuated wildly between spicy curry and calming lavender which indicated his mood and Ethan was the only one able to calm him down, doing so with a single touch between his shoulder blades where they merged.

Danny: Danny smells like he lived in a Eucalyptus oil factory for 50 years, the scent soothing and calm like he is. Its always the same and never changes, not even when his emotions do. It was concerning at first, since everyone else’s scents changed throughout the day, even when their mood didn't (the only other scent that barely changed was Peter’s but that was because the man hand an iron grip over his emotions, even in his scent. Which is super impressive). He was just that calm at all times, even when annoyed. The one time he got angry- and I mean really angry not just the pretenses he kept when ‘annoyed’ with Stiles who he more endeared with than anything- his scent overwhelmed the entire apartment complex ( the one Derek had bought out for his loft) with the horrible, strong, pungent scent of burnt rubber. No one angered him again.

But they did have a chat about his witch ancestry.

Erica: Her scent was that of a bonfire. A blazing bonfire, gasoline, and the smell of the world when it was so hot outside the air above the tar street shimmered. She was competitive, and fierce, and pure heat and burning. If she wanted something, she would take it she had always been that way, even when she was sick. And while her sickness may be gone she had a subtle distortion to her scent, one like poison, that made her always smell slightly sick. (Peter almost had a panic attack when he first met her because of her scent, he now never came within 10 feet of her).

Boyd: He smelled like a flower garden. He was so stoic that the floral scent took many by surprise. He had always smelled like soil and dirt, his down to earth personality manifesting as a calming and grounding scent. He also smelled like the ocean, like salt and brine, and waves. But that was all drowned out by the overwhelming smell of flowers, a scent that used to be his sisters, one that he subconsciously adopted after her death when he was still human. He empathized with Theo and would exchange heavy glances when the pack discussed their natural scents as a ‘pack bonding exercise’, they were both drowned in guilt for different reasons, but both over lost sisters. They never discussed it. That was all folks!!! Feel free to add on to this and/or use it as a fanfic reference!!! Do you agree??? What are your headcanons???

There are no words to describe how much I want Larson to be the equal and opposite of Arthur Lester. I don't just WANT him to be an absolute bitch, I NEED him to be an absolute bitch.

I need Arthur "run up 7 flights of stairs to purposefully get harpooned through the brain to blow up a monster using a flute" Lester to punch Wally "never gotten his hands dirty" Larson and have him crumble like dry sand. Bonus points if he whimpers and moans on the ground leaving John just absolutely confused as to why this man has gone down from a well placed punch after seeing how resilient Arthur is. I need Arthur "slit my own throat to spite the gods" Lester to get shot from behind by Wally "I'm chosen by the gods" Larson and for Arthur to still get up and kick Larsons ass anyway when he thinks he's won. I need Larson shooting Arthur as he's charging at him in fear and for Arthur to keep going like a freight train fueled by wrath and divine spite. I need Larson to be afraid of Arthur Lester. It doesn't even matter if Arthur dies in the process.

I need Arthur to break this mans glasses and strangle him by his stupid little bowtie.
