say what you want about light but you have to admire his Commitment To The Bit. if he’s able to convince himself he’ll get out of something - and he’s really good at convincing himself of that - he’ll go through with whatever plan he needs to do. he’ll martyr himself, he’ll imprison himself, he’ll let himself be mistrusted, he’ll craft as many fake relationships as he needs, he’ll coat himself in whatever lies are necessary, he’ll endure ryuk’s constant laughs at his expense because he believes he can wriggle out of it like a snake. only if he’s completely starved for solutions will he completely fall apart, which is why the ending is so impactful.
