I keep thinking how much more powerful the Spiderman origin story would be if Peter Parker was an African American kid, whose Uncle Ben was shot by police while being arrested for a minor parking infraction. There is no formal investigation, and Peter decides to put himself on the line to prevent it happening again. He tackles the white crimes that go unpunished, punishes POC criminals fairly. He is the leveler, always fighting to be without bias, to be just. To protect people like his uncle.
This not only mirrors so much of what’s happening in America, but feeds right into the complex relationship between Spiderman, the authorities and the media.
Peter Parker is a brilliant student, awkward, a nerd, but is branded a thug, a gang member, a criminal, because of his appearance. The media latch on to that and misrepresent him totally.
The police, humilitated by the fact that he refuses to work with them and often punishes cops themselves for brutalizing innocent people, or guilty people who still deserve better treatment than they get, attempt to hunt him down.

Changeling by PhemieC.
An Original Song. About feeling different and strange and even a little scary, but still ok. Recorded on my phone in one take so it’s very rough and I’ll make a nicer version at some point probably. Until then Enjoy. :)

Still crying after ten She’s paler then the day before Can she hear us? Does she know we’re watching her? We’re taking notes. We’re asking the hard questions. Is she ours? Where is she from? I cannot say I recognize her face. Sure I didn’t look like that or act so strange when I was her age. So quiet, but so much rage she broke another toy today teacher told us no one tries to play with her at recess but she doesn’t even notice isn’t talking yet, instead she sits outside drawing symbols in the dirt Haven’t seen her walk in days but she’s always somewhere different when you turn I think I am a changeling I was born with long dark hair, the nurse was scared, I didn’t cry but I was teething I think I am a changeling I broke open all the eggs ‘cause I heard baby birds inside and they were screaming So far I cannot see a family resemblance but something in her reminds me of a story I heard as a child in the dark can’t explain the milk we found under her bed, or the earthworms in her hair can’t explain the feeling I’ve forgotten some important thing somewhere… I think I am a changeling I was born with little claws instead of nails and I was pale and barely breathing I think I am a changeling I broke the mirror because the me who wasn’t me inside was shaking, she was seething, she was screaming Oh, changeling you will find your home some day your friends among the fairies your family with the fae

(also if you take a disabled person out on a date for any reason that's not wanting to date them fuck you)
If you, as a Neurotypical Able-Bodied Person: -befriend a disabled person. -take a disabled person out on a date. -vote a disabled person for prom/homecoming king/queen. -are someone who works in a field of safety, such as cops or firefighters, and you help a disabled person. -Teach disabled people. -Raise disabled people. -Work with disabled people. -Are an employer and you give a disabled person a job.
You’re not a hero. You’re not special. You’re not a saint. You’re a person being kind. Unless it’s done out of pity or for fame, in which case, screw you.
That kind of rhetoric further dehumanizes disabled people like myself because it’s saying that only a certain special few can be decent to disabled people, which may perpetuate the idea that NTABs who are assholes can treat us like shit because “they’re not one of the special ones that can be nice to them.”
Thanks for coming to my TedTalk.
Are you sure about that

You aren’t educating anyone when you do that. You’re pity-seeking and you’re embarrassing the disabled / autistic person unless they gave you permission to mention their diapers. If the person’s development progresses in a way to let them be mainstreamed in school (even if part-time), their peers will be relentless. Yes, the stuff you blog is seen by everyone unless your blog is strictly private.
But most caregivers never friggin’ consider that. (Sarcasm) It’s all about them and how they are affected by living with an autistic / disabled person, right? (/sarcasm)
Stephen Hawking managed to go through the last years of his life without the internet knowing what’s under his trousers. I think you caregivers can afford the same dignity to the autistic / disabled person in your life.
If they want to mention their own diapers, fine. That’s their choice. Stop taking it away from them.
