Since “what Are Those” Exists In The Marvel Universe, It’s Safe To Assume That Vine Does As Well.

since “what are those” exists in the marvel universe, it’s safe to assume that vine does as well. the “it is wednesday my dudes” vine was posted in 2015, and civil war was released in 2016, so it can be argued that the vine has an entirely new layer of comedy in the marvel universe, as spiderman didn’t exist when the vine was posted, and the man in the vine is just wearing a bizarre costume with no cultural meaning or reference. it can be concluded that peter parker designed his costume based off the “it is wednesday my dudes” guy. in this essay i will—

I love tumblr. I love that tumblr is the best social media site of 2021.

Every other site has spent the last decade perfecting the art of targeted ads. I am a wallet of flesh and blood which must be stripped bare and profiled and picked apart for the maximally efficient way to squeeze profit from my presence. Every other site will fold and morph itself to a shape of my liking - like a fairy tale trickster stealing memories and taking their mold - to lull me into compliance and loosen my coin purse.

Facebook sees me searching fitness equipment and injects my timeline with athletic wear ads. Reddit profiles the subreddits I follow and eagerly promotes a new coding bootcamp or cloud service at every turn. Google overhears me lamenting over my moving to-do list on voice call and fills in my “how much to tip movers” query before I’ve gotten the third word typed out.

Tumblr never even tried.

They could have. The information is there. The basic infrastructure, presumably, exists. Tumblr can recommend me tags based on tags I follow, blogs based on blogs I follow, even posts that for one reason or another may strike my fancy. Tumblr could be - SHOULD be - funneling this framework into advertising, as the only means that free-to-use social media platforms can turn a profit in our capitalistic hellscape.

They just don’t.

Today I saw an ad for treating Hyperhidrosis - a condition, I think, in which a person sweats too much - and I saw it twice, four posts apart, and it is so incredibly benignly impersonally ineptly untargeted toward me compared to all other pinpoint-aimed advertising that I’m endeared to it. Tumblr knows NOTHING about me. 8 years, 51,000 likes, and tumblr has not learned a THING about me.

Advertisements for a mattress? Shitty mobile game ads that don’t make even the slightest pretense at being anything other than a candy crush rip-off? Choose-your-own adventure games either about Royal Espionage or Choosing The Wrong Dress For Your Date with ZERO in-between.

And then this. This here. The culmination, the crown-jewel of tumblr’s nihilistic non-compliance with the state of social media advertising. Any pretense of capitalistic exchange is abandoned at the gas station by the side of the road. This is not a company. This is not a product. This is not anything that fulfills the contract of consumer and seller.

THIS. THIS IS WHAT TUMBLR HAS TO OFFER INSTEAD.

“Pour vinegar on your bread, fuck you.”

“Put it in the garbage, fuck you.”

“Your wife says you’re a fucking dumbass, fuck you.”

That’s it. That’s the advertisement. You vinegar-breadless cuck. You virgin extraordinaire bereft of bread and garbage can. I am fucking your wife right now in our vinegar-soaked motel bed. She puffs a cigarette which I pulled from the trashcan and we both laugh heartily at her recounts of your immasculine ineptitude. I don’t want your money. I don’t want anything from you. Fuck you.

Amazing. Amazing. What a state of things to ring in 2021. What a great platform we all collectively choose to be on.

Star systems follow a standard blueprint that keeps their orbits stable.  They are organized in a hierarchical setup. What that means is that each set of orbits is on a different size scale.  The sizes of stars’ orbits do not go 1-2-3, they go 1-10-100. Any one star is only really close to one other star.  After that, other stars are much farther away.

Here is a cartoon of a hierarchical 8-star system:

Star Systems Follow A Standard Blueprint That Keeps Their Orbits Stable.  They Are Organized In A Hierarchical

This system is hierarchical because each close pair of stars (stars a and b, b and c, etc) is much closer to each other than any other stars (or pairs of stars).  The separation between stars a and b is much smaller than the separation between stars a+b and c+d, which is much smaller than the separation between stars a+b+c+d and e+f+g+h.  Let’s say that the separation between the closest binaries is 0.1 Astronomical Units, the separation between each pair of close binaries is 1 Astronomical Unit, and the separation between clumps of 4 stars is 10 Astronomical Units.

From the transcripts it looks like the others were trying to follow procedure but Chauvin was most definitely not.

If you read the big CHAZ/CHOP post I made in early June, most of this won’t be new to you.  But I wanted to share it.

I don’t agree with everything in the video, especially not the jumps to attribute malice to the SPD when mere incompetence is a plausible explanation.  The guy is clearly pushing a particular angle, and the timeline jumps quickly from one event that makes SPD look bad to another, almost implying that nothing except those events took place.

But the concrete facts he does report – those all happened.  And the tone of the video captures how I felt about them then, and still do.

(I want to draw particular attention to the June 20 shooting and the claim that the cops were met by a violent crowd.  The “body cam video” mentioned is not some obscure thing you have to look up a database – the SPD provided that footage in their official post about the incident, the same post that mentions a violent crowd.  Do they … just think you’re not going to watch the video???

All this stuff was like that.  Stuff that feels to me like a carrier wave for a fundamental message, reiterated again and again: I know I don’t have to make sense.  No one cares if I’m lying.  I have sovereignty and so I create reality.  I cannot be held responsible for my actions, because I am the one-who-holds-responsible.  Morality and law are things for you mortals, not me.)

An Astronaut’s Tips For Living in Confined Spaces

One thing astronauts have to be good at: living in confined spaces for long periods of time.

image

Nearly 20 years successfully living on the International Space Station and more than 50 flying in space did not happen by accident. Our astronauts and psychologists have examined what human behaviors create a healthy culture for living and working remotely in small groups. They narrowed it to five general skills and defined the associated behaviors for each skill.

For many of us in a similar scenario, here are the skills as shared by astronaut Anne McClain:

Skill 1, Communication

image

Share information and feelings freely.

Talk about your intentions before taking action.

Discuss when your or others’ actions were not as expected.

Take time to debrief after success or conflict.

Admit when you are wrong.

Skill 2, Self-Care

image

Balance work, rest, and personal time. Be organized.

Realistically assess your own strengths and weaknesses, and their influence on the group.

Identify personal tendencies and their influence on your success or failure. Learn from mistakes.

Be open about your weaknesses and feelings.

Take action to mitigate your own stress or negativity (don’t pass it on to the group).

Skill 3, Team Care

image

Demonstrate patience and respect. Encourage others.

Monitor your team (or friends and family) for signs of stress or fatigue.

Encourage participation in team (or virtual) activities.

Volunteer for the unpleasant tasks. Offer and accept help.

Share credit; take the blame.

Skill 4, Group Living

image

Cooperate rather than compete.

Actively cultivate group culture (use each individual’s culture to build the whole).

Respect roles, responsibilities and workload.

Take accountability; give praise freely. Then work to ensure a positive team attitude.

Keep calm in conflict.

Skill 5, Leadership/Followership

image

Accept responsibility.

Adjust your style to your environment.

Assign tasks and set goals.

Lead by example. Give direction, information, feedback, coaching and encouragement.

Talk when something isn’t right. Ask questions.

We are all in this together on this spaceship we call Earth! These five skills are just reminders to help cultivate good mental and physical health while we all adjust to being indoors. Take care of yourself and dive deeper into these skills HERE.
