I find it so interesting how increasingly anti feminist some of this site has become. Like, "men try to use women around them as therapists and mothers instead of going to therapy" is like, a thing that's been discussed to death in the decades passed, but now transandrodorks just push mra "that's not true, women are just bitches" and "men don't get to talk about their problems :(" and the infamous "there's a loneliness epidemic for men" like wtf is going on with this website it feels like we're watching these weirdo trans mascs turn into incels.

i think the thing that is specifically bothering me about the conversation about the new hbomberguy video ("live your life in a way so that hbomberguy doesn't tear into you for 3 hours", "hbomberguy has figured out how to death note someone through video essays", "oh new hbomberguy video [incredibly dense paragraphs of text] i now despise james somerton") is that it really feels like people aren't paying attention to what hbomberguy was actually saying. like, as much as he wanted to make people aware of the plagiarism issue, he also very explicitly did not like the fact that he might even remotely have a financial incentive to make those sorts of videos. and rather than the last video, which was a "get mad about this" call to action, hbomberguy spent this whole video sympathizing with the people who were directly out indirectly affected, and wanted the focus of people's attention to be on uplifting small queer creators

but also, negativity drives engagement so i guess it's to be expected.

The thing that particularly drives me nuts about the whole rap thing is that you could spend the rest of your life not listening to any rap at all and nobody would know. No one will ever quiz you. No one REALLY cares whether you, personally, listen to rap. People talking about cultural attitudes towards Black art are not thinking about you, specifically. Nobody is writing and going "And if Tumblr user so-and-so reads this they'll know I know they only listen to Broadway musicals and that I think they're a RACIST." I cannot fathom the kind of mindset required to see a discussion about the knee-jerk negative reaction people have towards rap and immediately turn that discussion into a confessional where you're like "I don't listen to rap but here are my specific and valid reasons why" like who the fuck are you and why should anybody care. Get over yourself!!
