Women scientists made up 25% of the Pluto fly-by New Horizon team. Make sure you share this, because erasing women’s achievements in science and history is a tradition. Happens every day. http://pluto.jhuapl.edu/News-Center/News-Article.php?page=20150712
Nicholas Kristof travels to South Sudan, where a famine brought on by drought and civil war threatens five million people.
After Dylann Roof opened fire on worshippers gathered inside the historically black Emanuel A.M.E Church in Charleston, South Carolina last month, allegedly killing nine congregants and claiming that they “rape our women” and “are taking over our country,” a disturbing image circulated online. A Facebook picture of Roof sitting on top of his car and straddling a license plate celebrating the “Confederate States of America” went viral, stoking an outrage that prompted the South Carolina government to permanently lower the Confederate flag that had long flown over the State House.
For some, however, the debate isn’t over. The Ku Klux Klan successfully petitioned to hold a pro-Confederate flag rally in Charleston last week, resulting in five arrests as white racialist groups clashed with counter-protesters such as the New Black Panther Party. Video footage from the scene shows African Americans angrily tearing up a Confederate flag, while Nazis inveighed against the government’s decision to “delete your history.”

I beg you, to have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and to try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don’t search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer.

With capitalism, the excess ..becomes the rule, that is, the elementary form of buying is the act of buying things we ‘don’t really need’.
Slavoj Zizek (via alterities)
Could say if there is any correlation between capitalist surplus value and the excess enjoyment in fantasy,,,?
A certain excess which was ..kept in check.., perceived as a local perversion, a limited deviation, is elevated in capitalism to the very principle of social lifeIn the ..movement of money begetting more money, ..the thing can survive only as its own excess, constantly exceeding its own ‘normal’ constraints- ZIZEK

ACCUMULATION OF CAPITAL
This gratuitous service of past labor, when seized and filled with a soul by living labor increases with the advancing stages of accumulation. Past labor always disguises itself as capital. ..Capital is not a fixed magnitude, but is a part of social wealth, elastic and…
