She used to gaze up at the stars

When mom drove her home at night

She thought everyone would know her name

And she'd never be put down without a fight

They said you can do what you put your mind to

But she was always scared of changing her mind

She didn't know the world the way she does now

That dreams like that were not for her to find

There's a place

For everything soft,

Its in your gaze

The way you focus on everything

Leaves me amazed,

As you make harshness go away

Even if the voices around are loud

And the actions rash,

They filter through your lens

As blunted moments

Never making you flinch

For a second,

You're like an open door

Radiating light that touches the skin

As tenderly as it can,

Revealing so many places and ideas

That are picturesque

As if divinely touched and felt.

Why are you watching your cellphone

when there are so many stars in the sky?

I love you:

The words I gave you

So you could tear me to pieces

Or hold onto me

I gave you my heart

So you could make it bleed

Or wrap your arms around me

I gave you my thoughts

So you could choose to destroy them

Or fill them

I gave you my life

So you could burn it

But you decided to save it

-- by me

If you were coming in the fall
