I think it also goes to say that Boromir's hair probably grew out quite a bit during there journey, so his hair was most likely longer when he died
hilarius-and-felix replied to this post:
In the final version the men of Rohan have long hair too though. So there'd be no reason for her to cut hers: "The Men that rode them matched them well: tall and long-limbed; their hair, flaxen-pale, flowed under their light helms, and streamed in long braids behind them"
I don't have my copies of HOME with me, so I don't know if it's true that continuity was the reason why Tolkien backtracked on Éowyn cutting her hair off. I don't recall that being the reason, but like I said, I can't check for myself right now. My impression was that Tolkien simply preferred the imagery of her pulling off the helmet and her hair falling over her shoulders, but I couldn't say for sure, since my post was not exactly intended to be rigorous interpretation, but just something I would have found neat.
That said, I disagree that Éowyn's hair length in canon is necessarily interchangeable with the male Riders'. Tolkien uses "long" pretty broadly of very different hair lengths. For instance, at the Council of Elrond, Frodo describes Boromir's hair this way:
his locks were shorn about his shoulders
Yet at his funeral just a few months later, Tolkien says:
They combed his long dark hair and arrayed it upon his shoulders.
So "long" in Tolkien's usage can vary quite a bit.
I don't think it's clear from your quote just how long the male Rohirrim typically wear their hair, but I think this suggests Éowyn's is remarkable:
Very fair was her face, and her long hair was like a river of gold.
And in the canon confrontation with the Witch-king, her revelation of her gender is, IMO, clearly associated with the release of her hair:
A little to the left facing them stood she whom he had called Dernhelm. But the helm of her secrecy had fallen from her, and her bright hair, released from its bonds, gleamed with pale gold upon her shoulders.
This looks to me like her hair was bound by the helmet itself and only reaches her shoulders once the helmet is removed. The close association with her hair/the helmet/secrecy does also suggest IMO that concealing her hair was part of the Dernhelm disguise.
This may be a minor continuity error of sorts (in all honesty, it seems pretty trivial even to me), since a Rider without long hair otherwise would stand out rather than be more disguised. It's easy enough to fanwank—perhaps there actually are some male Rohirrim with shorter hair among the rest, perhaps her hair is enough longer than usual that her gender would be more obvious if she wore her hair (comparatively) long like the men rather than hiding it in her helmet or whatever.
In any case, I still think there would be a pretty clear distinction between the usual length of male Riders' hair and Éowyn's, that she could have cut it to that length, and that it'd be cool if she had.
going absolutely hogshit feral over Thranduil being a loved and popular king. like he parties with his subjects and they love it. he’s like the Cool Dad Of Mirkwood. little kids give him flowers and he tucks them gently into his crown. birds land on his crown. his soldiers and subjects love him. he may seem isolationist, cold, feral and strange to outsiders but to his subjects. he’s a Father Figure
Thinking about vampire!Soap showing up to the den with you—a weak, freshly turned fledgling, clinging to his jacket and hiding behind him.
He gets scolded. Probably punished. They’re not allowed to turn people without express permission from Price to do so, and he’s gone and disobeyed. He couldn’t help himself, he says— saw you wandering the beach alone and knew you needed a forever home. That you’d make a beautiful creature of the night. that his coven would adore you— just look at that face— red tint soaking into your irises, little baby fangs pressing against your bottom lip as you bite it nervously, a few drops of Johnny’s blood still smeared at the corners of your mouth.
By all accounts, they should kill you and start him on some sort of punishment for the next decade. That tends to be how it goes when a vampire tries to undermine the sire of the coven.
But he was right. You are a cute little thing. Already settled onto Nikolai’s lap while they’re deciding if you should live or die. You’re a little too hazy from dying to really follow the conversation in any meaningful way. You’re tired and blood-hungry, your eyelids fluttering as you get bounced on his knee.
Which Price does not appreciate, by the way. This was supposed to be a serious discussion, condemning Soap for his mistake, not coddling it.
Pallando and Alatar, the Blue Wizards of the East
Eowyn, in a high voice, holding Barbie: Hey Ken! I was thinking about going back to school and starting a career!
Merry, in a deep voice, holding Ken: Nonsense, Barbie. you’re staying home and having my kids.
Eomer: What the fuck are you guys doing?
Eowyn, giving him a deathly stare: Playing systemic oppression.
This actually made me tear up a little, this painter loved drawing this woman, and it shows in every little damn detail
William P. Welsh - Burlesque Queen (1941)
Simon would definitely use “don’t bite the hand that fingers you” unironically
horrific and he'll say it in polite company too. now ya neighbor knows you're getting finger fucked on a lazy tuesday. (as if they can't hear ya while it happens.)
If I see another “Batman thinks he saved his kids, but really he destroyed them” or any iteration of him purposefully making the robins and co child soldiers I’m going to lose my mind.
LISTEN TO ME AND LISTEN CAREFULLY: these fucking kids would have found a way, one way or another to cause havoc on the criminals of Gotham with or without the care and training of Batman.
Remember, these kids could have stopped at any point, all they had to do was say so but no. After every traumatic event, after every fight with Bruce, after every death/almost death…they still put on their cowls and fought crime.
Let’s not forget the roots of these characters:
Dick: wanted to kill Tony Zucco
Barbara: Wanted to save Gotham like her father, ended up saving Bruce Wayne, then continued to play hero in spite of Batman telling her not to
Jason: ballsy street kid
Tim: stalked and negotiated his way into being Robin
Steph: went out on her own to stop her criminal father, legit ‘spoil’ his plans
Cassandra: born and raised weapon
Damian: born and raised weapon, thought being Robin was his born given right
Duke: willingly joined the ‘We Are Robin’ movement to fight for Gotham
What are you guys not getting? This information of how each kid becomes a vigilante is free…you don’t even have to read a comic, just look it up on wikis.
That is all, good day
Hello! I have never written any of this shit down before, or posted! So here we go, its gonna be gargabe. But its my garbage so who cares?
Anyway!
Some Cod character headcannons
Simon definently has some crazy good hygiene when off the field. Can tell you first hand that some people who grew up dirt poor hate smelling bad. Simon is one of them. He has a full shower care routine, complete with exfoliating. Skincare too, he knows what that mask could do to his skin. Its almost meditative I think. A way to wind down after missions, to ground himself.
Price who was raised in a tough household. Not abusive, or so he says, just chaotic. A constantly working father, and a mess of a mother. Younger siblings, trying to be a parent while needing one himself. It gave him one hell of a need for control, and an outlet for frustration. He left to join the military, and never looked back. Still checks in on his baby siblings from time to time, but his parents are dead to him for reasons even he doesn't want to remember. It bleeds over into how he takes care of the 141, and how well he takes orders. He craves the rigidity, and the knowledge that somone else will always at least have a plan or orders for him, something he never got as a kid.
Johnny has a fascination with soft, cozy things. After he was allowed to get an apartment and live off base, his family, mainly his mother, sisters, and grandma, helped him decorsate. The place is full of old blankets, soft pillows, and a couple old childhood stuffed animals. It may seem out of character, but this man was not raised to reject much needed comfort out of a fucked sense of masculinity. You think he cares about getting made fun of? Look at that fuckass mohawk. He does not care.
Gaz who is always, always lonely when not on a mission or on base. Sure, he has friends from before he joined up, but theres a disconnect now. A chasm that can never be crossed created by the horrors he's seen and done. He has plenty of one night stands, but never sticks around. A smaller family, and he has a hard time keeping in touch. Just lonely. Eventually he caves and goes to a veterans support group, full of old men doing various crafts and activities. He is by far the youngest one there, but he finds himself enjoying it. Gets adopted by almost all of them. And he finds that they understand very well what he is going through. Afterall, they went through it too. Price doesn't question later how Gaz knows exactly how to fix a wobbly chair using only glue and some paper, but he is glad that his soldier seems a bit happier and coping better.
It’s common knowledge that Bilbo WILL stab a bitch
haha knives am i right? age: can join the military, cant legally drink
