Episodes 38-39 of Ina11 GO [vs. Arakumo] are fucking wild

Taiyou is just absolutely DETERMINED to Commit Aliven’t on that sakka field and He Will NOT Be Stopped. If anybody had stopped the game and called an ambulance he would fistfight the paramedics. The Dying Guy has escaped from the hospital and he Will Not go back. Amemiya Taiyou is ADAMANT that he will go out on HIS TERMS and His Terms are on a soccer field, not in a smelly hospital room full of like loved ones and painkillers and stuff.

And Tenma seems to be the only person actually fully aware of the fact that Taiyou Is Actively Dying, but he doesn’t tell anyone “Hey that guy’s heart is literally failing as we speak, please do something” because Captain Suicide is his buddy and he doesn’t want to piss him off I guess. Tenma DOES try to Go Easy On The Dying Guy during the match though, because Tenma does not want to Commit Murder, and then Tsurugi gives him hell about it and Demands Arakumo Blood. How dare you have mercy on the guy trying to go into cardiac arrest right in front of you, sir. This Is Soccer and soccer is Serious Business. Spare No One.

And then Tenma sees a bird and thinks about freedom for a second and decides Assisted Suicide Is Good, Actually.

So Raimon beats the shit out of Arakumo, and Taiyou collapses dramatically, alarming everybody except Tenma probably, and begins giving his Dying Monologue right there on the sakka field. He is at peace, he has no regrets, this is exactly what he wanted [well, winning that game probably would have been better], he is Ready To Go.

…Except then he realizes he is actually very much NOT Ready To Go and promptly Panics. “FUCK, DUDE, I DON’T WANNA DIE. SOCCER IS FUN ACTUALLY AND I WANT TO DO IT AGAIN. I WANT TO LIVE!! TENMA I WANT TO LIVE!! OH SHIT!!”

And then Taiyou doesn’t die. He gets carted off back to his beloathed hospital, to become Totally Fine in a few months. He’s an active main character in the next season. Chronic heart condition just vanishes into thin air. That means the implication here is that this poor dumbass was not even actually fucking dying to begin with, until he started Actively Trying To Kill Himself With Soccer. So there was no point to the “MY TERMS!!” Soccer Suicide Attempt. There was no “Fuck, I’m gonna die anyway, so I might as well die with DIGNITY and also just get it over with” dilemma. He Was Getting Better And Was Apparently Almost Entirely Cured. This poor guy lmfao

And then Shindou dies.

While everyone’s busy worrying over Taiyou fighting off the icy grip of Death on the ground over there, Shindou’s leg bones just fucking explode apparently. So now we’ve gotta call an ambulance for TWO people.

ALSO! Also!! High temperatures are TERRIBLE for people with heart problems, and we are Doing Soccer Battle in the desert-themed stadium. The stadium Made Of Sand, with the Blazing Sun directly overhead. That is literally the worst possible stadium for somebody to be Fending Off Heart Failure in.

Not to mention, Taiyou’s whole Theme is The Sun. Big Fireball. Heat. Hot. Fire. Taiyou does Fire. So this is the worst possible environment, AND the worst possible skillset for this guy. And he still does not Successfully Die. He really was Very Close to being Totally Fine, huh. Did…did nobody ever TELL him that he Probably Wasn’t Actually Going To Die At This Point and he just needed to Wait a Little While longer before soccering again and then he’d be fine? Hello?? Nurse??
