the coppery-bellied puffleg is a hummingbird species found only in colombia and venezuela. they are named for the unusual white “puffs” of feathers on their legs - it’s unknown why exactly the puffleg species have evolved this trait. these birds are somewhat elusive, and not much research has been done on them, but it is known that destruction of their native habitat is negatively impacting population size.
the shiny whistling-thrush is a small passerine bird found exclusively in the barisan mountains of sumatra. they are known for having bright, reflective plumage. they are omnivorous, but prefer insects - they use their slightly hooked bills for specialized feeding on snails.

the crested quail-dove is a bird endemic only to mountain ranges in jamaica. despite the confusing aspect of their name, this bird is a member of the pigeon & dove family, and not any more closely related to quails than other birds of this family. males and females appear similar, with males sporting slightly brighter plumage & typically being larger. they feed on fallen fruits and seeds, foraging through leaf litter. the typical clutch size for this species is only two eggs.
