my therapist: ancient greek man-faced crab drachma isn't real, it can't hurt you
ancient greek man-faced crab drachma:
i just saw the tag “canon complicit” instead of “canon compliant” and im laughing its like “canon is a criminal act that i unfortunately support with this fic”
“In 1404, King Taejong fell from his horse during a hunting expedition. Embarrassed, looking to his left and right, he commanded, “Do not let the historian find out about this.” To his disappointment, the historian accompanying the hunting party included these words in the annals, in addition to a description of the king’s fall.“
LMFAOOOOOO rip to that guy
I read this little fact in my King Island book and i don't see it come up in any other source and it really makes some other aspects of the culture make sense so i wanted to share:
In Inupiaq cultural tradition, men would fast when they hunted. They would get up at dawn, test the weather by standing barefoot near the entrance of the house, and if hunting was an option, they'd have a little water and no food before heading out. A man wouldn't eat anything that day until he got home in the evening
I may not have completed most of my responsibilities today, but I did sort through all 1000+ emails in my inbox
@feanorianweek day ii; maglor the minstrel
And when this new star was seen at evening, Maedhros spoke to Maglor his brother, and he said: ‘Surely that is a Silmaril that shines now in the West?’ And Maglor answered: ‘If it be truly the Silmaril which we saw cast into the sea that rises again by the power of the Valar, then let us be glad for its glory is seen now by many, and is yet secure from all evil.’ Then the Elves looked up, and despaired no longer.

The model Noh Seoung Hwa, an east asian man, facing front. He’s wearing a blazer and multiple rings
a detail from a baroque painting, showing a bushy sleeve with gold decor
white text on purple background reading “kanafinwe makalaure” and “maglor”
a bay by night with a reddish moon above
a yellow gem
a golden baroque-style harp
cut-open fig fruits

Picture ID for visually impaired people are genuinely good and should be normalized, however we should keep in mind people born blind don't have a single idea what a color is and it's most of the visual ID I've read
I think a lot about how Thingol and Finwe were great friends and what a betrayal it must have been to learn about the Kinslaying of the Teleri, of Olwe’s people, Thingol’s own brother, by Feanor, the son of his great friend. Not only is Elves killing other Elves like the biggest taboo that they have, but that it’s your BFF’s son who killed the people that followed you and your brother? The people you were responsible for?? And then along comes your BFF’s grandkids and they’re lying about why they’re really here and nobody tells you about what your BFF’s kid did?? How personal and devastating that must have been to learn about, given what a great friendship there used to be there. That Thingol had wanted to return to Aman and the Light he saw there, as well as because that’s where his friend Finwe was. But then he fell in love with Melian and his people settled in Middle-Earth and he wasn’t able to be there when his people were killed. Anyway, this is why I will always have Thingol feelings because, man, that shit had to have hurted.
Nerdanel: What are these?!
Fëanor: Dwarf costumes.
Nerdanel: Why? Have you lost your mind?!
Fëanor: How many dwarves in Snow-White?
Nerdanel: Seven.
Fëanor: How many sons do we have?
Nerdanel: ...seven.
Fëanor: Et voilà.
You know what the Fire Nation is missing? Lizards. Have you ever gone to a tropical place? There are just: Lizards. You see a wall, there is a lizard. You go walking, you find lizards. Azula is talking? There is a lizard trying to figure out how to get to the other side. Zuko is being dramatic? There is a lizard in the background as public. The escape from the boiling rock? A lizard also tags along. Just lizards, they really know how to set the ambient
I don't think people without sensory sensitivities understand that what I'm asking of them is no more than I ask of myself.
I practice ways to avoid setting off both my own sensitivities and the sensitivities of others. I've taught myself to chew and swallow as quietly as possible, to scoop ice cream and stir tea without clinking the metal spoon against the side of the ceramic cup, to not smack my lips, to never clear my throat unless there is no other option and then to only do it once or twice. I repress my stim of touching my nose and upper lip when in the presence of one of my siblings because for some reason it bothers them (they don't have sensory sensitivities so I'm not sure why they dislike it, but I'll respect their preference).
I don't choose to have these. I would get rid of them if I could, but no amount of exposure and trying to stay calm has vanquished them. My sensitivities come and go as they please, and some have been with me for as long as I remember.
Yet somehow when I ask others to not set off my sensitivities, I'm told that I am overly sensitive, lazy, and just trying to annoy them.
