If you’re in LA, be sure to stop by Gallery Nucleus this weekend for the CAPTURE CREATURES show! It’s going to have a lot of awesome pieces! I’ve made a gif and broke down the process for my Armadae painting!
1. Sketchin out the drawing and then cleaning it up.
2. Lightboxing onto some thick bristol paper with a lot of tooth to it!
3. Paint by numbers! Not really, but getting inside the lines is best for this stage. I usually use Holbein Acryla gouache coz it goes on pretty flat and matte!
4. Inking! I use a Hunt 107 nib because the fork is really stiff and I can tell when it’s hitting the paper easier than a 102. I’m pretty heavy-handed so knowing when I’m touching the page is a big help.
5. Beefing up some lines and throwing a thick line around the outside of the drawings with a fat micron, and completing some spot blacks.
6. CHIP CHOP!
7. Marking the outsides of the paper to make the edges black!
8. Frame!
