Lol Since This Has To Be Said Again; Constructive Criticism Is Good Only When It’s Explicitly Asked

lol since this has to be said again; constructive criticism is good only when it’s explicitly asked for by the creators.

if they didn’t ask for one then no, you’re not giving your favorite AO3 writer “constructive criticism” to help them improve their writing, by listing the things you want fixed in their work in the comment. you’re giving them the orders of what you want and what you think they should write for you for free. you’re being self-centered and rude and, instead of “motivating” them to write more, you’re discouraging them and are making them consider stopping writing or sharing their works altogether.

unless the author specifically asked you for constructive criticism, keep that to yourself and either tell them nice things or don’t say anything at all.

a reminder that fanfic writers write as their hobby, for free. they’re not writing in order to sell their works. they’re writing because they’re passionate about the characters and the stories, and most importantly, they’re writing for themselves. they’re only allowing you — the reader — to read their work as a gift because they were hoping they could make your day a little better. but they’re writing for themselves. they’re not writing to please you or anybody.

if you don’t like the gift or if you don’t have anything positive to say about the gift you were given, there’s literally zero reason for you to make sure the person, who’s kind enough to give you a gift, knows how you dislike their gift or how you think the gift could be “better”. that is just unnecessary and extremely rude.

When The Moon Can Be Seen During The Day

When the moon can be seen during the day

This absolutely took the words out of my mouth. There always seems to be those people who hates Kageyama because he’s egoistical and self-centered. Because he’s oh so “genius”. Just as viria said, Kageyama didn’t yell at people for not hitting his amazing tosses but rather because he thought they had more potential, they could do more. He felt they didn’t try hard enough, that they could be better. But he realizes that the way he’s saying and doing it didn’t come across properly and it’s all miscommunications and misunderstandings. He is emotionally constipated, unbearably obtuse and has shit communication skills. But he doesn’t blame them rather he feels sorry for them because he treated them so badly.

I love Kageyama the most in the anime because I relate to how he is misunderstood and is just bad as words as I am. I am really grateful for Karasuno for helping him. And yes, Oikawa and Sugawara. I hate Oikawa but I understand how he feels. I love Suga because he’s just the best thing that’s ever happened in my life like he’s just beautiful okay? (´༎ຶོρ༎ຶོ`) He’s one of my favorite senpais out there!

hello! i love haikyuu!! but i find it so tough to like kageyama...he took sugawara's place as starter during suga's LAST year of high school volleyball, just because he's a "talented genius." he consistently tries to outdo oikawa and has since middle school after oikawa worked relentlessly and tirelessly to get where he's at. he basically gets all this handed to him because he's a "talented genuis" whose only flaw is his social skills which he can easilly correct. i don't like it;i dont like him

OOO OOOHH OOOHH oooooOOHHHHHHHHHH (сейчас пойдет что-то из серии “бомбануло”)

Oh booy. I have a little storm building inside because do I love Kageyama? YES. Kageyama was the first character who got to be my favourite, with flaws and all.

I feel like narrowing Kageyama’s character down to him being a talanted genius only is not quite right, since he’s come short to the furthest ways in a matter of actual character development if you forget Tsukishima and maybe Yamaguchi. Hinata, too, but boy has lots to learn and his actual personality hasn’t changed as drastically really.

The thing about Kageyama is that, no, he doesn’t get it all “handed” to him, and no, I don’t think his only flaw is as easily to correct as you stated. Have you ever tried to learn how to trust people? Dude I think that’s something far more complex than just learning techniques. It’s pretty much Kageyama needing to unlearn everything he’s got used to for the past 15 years (and THEN learn how trust and teammates and partnership works and let himself be the part of it) instead of just LEARNING something if he was only seeking the new skills. But that’s not really the case here….or at least not quite what I’m going with it. (i’m not yet sure where i’m going with it tho)

The way you say it sounds as if Tobio has a nature of some evil-hearted kid, because he steals his senpai’s place on the team, he wants to outdo Oikawa so bad and it’s a horrible thing to do, right?…While in reality he STRIVES to know more. To learn more. To get better. Kageyama isn’t satisfied with the “talented genius” label everyone gives him, Kageyama doesn’t have his skills handed to him in a matter of seconds either. He does have it easier than most, he is capable for more, but the thing about Kageyama is that he’s just as unsatisfied with himself as the rest of them if not more. Not to mention that no one wanted to give Tobio a place on a team for the fact that he was a genius alone. His amazing skills could not compensate the lack of proper communication from his side.

There are people, who get praised constantly and who at some point in time decide that hey, it’s enough. I’m the best now. Kageyama…on the one hand looked like he was one of those people, back in middle school. Because he wanted everyone to run faster and jump higher and hit his so amazing tosses, but I don’t consider him one of those people. He didn’t yell at people for not hitting his oh so amazing tosses, he yelled at people because he thought they weren’t trying hard enough. Kageyama is someone who is unable to accept half-assed efforts. He doesn’t accept it in others, he doesn’t accept it in himself. Back in middle school his exceptional lack of proper social skills was the reason why he simply didn’t comprehand that his teammates were in fact trying which lead to everything it had lead to.

The whole situation with Oikawa is so much more complicated than Kageyama just wanting to outdo his senpai. Because guess what, Kageyama isn’t the only one who caused their middle school conflict. It’s Oikawa’s jealousy, Kageyama’s density, their general lack of experience with simply dealing with that kind of situations, and probably some kind of neglect from their coach on top of it. Oikawa is the reason Kageyama wanted to become a setter and probably to play volleyball on the first place. He is someone so HUGE and almost unreachable in so many ways to this kid. Now I realize I actually have been in the same situation before.. I usually relate to Oikawa the most, but now that I think about it the middle school situation is something close to what I have experienced back when I was around Kageyama’s age.

When you’re so young and impressionable you make your idols. They inspire you, you respect them so greatly because they were the force that made your wires move, but at the same time you want to overcome them desperately. I feel like it’s in the nature of people, or at least those that have a competitive spirit. Kageyama doesn’t want to outdo Oikawa because of ill will and superiority, he admires and respects Oikawa so much he wants to be just as good. To be better. To have someone respect and admire him as much and to feel the same way about himself as he feels about his senpai. Tooru is the biggest role model in Kageyama’s life so far and it’s only natural that he wants to be as good and better. It’s not….Kageyama’s fault that he is more naturally gifted than Oikawa is. I love this kid because even though he’s been called a genius he still doesn’t feel like one.

Suga’s situation is similar to Oikawa’s because they both have Kageyama as a kouhai, but it also differs greatly. While Tooru initially shut down all of Kageyama’s questions and “teach me how to”, Suga on the other hand, gives him all the possible advices even though this kid has the same position as him. It might be the matter of their maturity, because Oikawa had to deal with Tobio when he was very young and very doubtful, while Suga is older and with clear goal in mind - to do everything to make his team stronger.

Back then, before Iwaizumi literally knocked some sense into Oikawa’s head, Oikawa was….kind of playing mostly for himself, I guess. Or he took way too much responsibility for all of them on his shoulders alone. I mean if Oikawa considered Tobio’s potential a threat for his selfish reasons of being able to be on the court, Suga sees it as an opportunity for his team, almost the light in the dark, despite him not being on the court.

Personally I don’t think Kageyama deserves to be hated for this. He didn’t steal Suga’s place, he came to this school to play his absolutely favourite sport, to become better. Not to mention Suga himself doesn’t feel like his place was stolen from him. AND not to mention that Kageyama feels like it’s been given to him not quite fairly, so he, the real big genius, wants to truly deserve Sugawara’s starting place on the team.

I can’t help but think Kageyama is a very pure-hearted simpleton, oblivious because of his lack of experience and general social awkwardness, but with good intentions in heart. He gave it all in middle school because he wanted to win (even though he didn’t know winning together was SO much better); he yells at people awkwardly to encourage them, has a very pure eagerness and strive for knowledge and learning. Furudate showed us so many amazing character tropes and I LOVE the genius-who-still-feels-unsatisfied one. I love the loner who learns trust and companionship one. I love the development that comes along with it. And I just really, really love Kageyama’s character.

people always talk about leaving comments on ao3 like it's a nice thing to do, or the best way to encourage writers to keep writing, or overall like it's how you Do Your Part in fandom

and yeah, all those things are true, but having spent the past few months leaving enthusiastic comments on as many things as i can, i have a different perspective

you should leave comments on fics because it's fun

taking the time to stop and focus on what i like about a story has made me way more aware of what's going on in stories and what i like about them. there's bit more actual comprehension and appreciation and not just beaming content into my eyes to fill time

i like noticing cool little things in fics, or riffing on funny events. i've never been very good at speculating or picking apart characters, but sometimes something clicks and it rocks.

and of course it's pretty nice when you get a response and it's clear you've made another person happy

so yeah, you should leave comments for your own sake, too. it makes reading better!

This Is Why Writers Abandon Stories. It’s Not That We Don’t Love Them, It’s Because We Don’t

Please, For The Love Of God, Please Don’t Be This Person. No Matter How Long It’s Been Since An Update,

Please, for the love of god, please don’t be this person. No matter how long it’s been since an update, no matter how many unfinished stories are sitting on their account, no matter what - do not be this person.

Not only is it insanely rude, but you also do more damage than you think be being such a self-entitled ass about something someone created for free and for fun. “This author” can see what you say.

RIP decency indeed.
