do yāall think abigail was scared to tell john she was pregnant for the second time incase he ran away again
NOW WHY WOULD YOU WRITE THIS
What if he didnāt go north... What if he left for good? (A soul-crushing headcanon about Charles Smith)
What if Charles took his own life? Yes, yes, just like that ā what if he left, not north, but FOR GOOD. I keep thinking about this more and more. Because so much about him screams ā āI canāt do this anymore.ā
Everyone says: he went to Canada. Oh sure, sure. But maybe itās time to stop repeating that comforting bedtime story. Canada was mentioned once, barely, like a breath. But in another dialogue ā he says he wants to go to INDOCHINA. Can you imagine? Indochina! Where is that, and whereās Canada, and where is he? Heās lost. Heās torn. He doesnāt know where to go. Because he feels at home NOWHERE. And all of this ā itās not a plan. Itās emptiness. Itās pain wrapped in scraps of fantasy.
And when he tells John: āWhat does your family need an old gunslinger for?ā ā thatās NOT A JOKE. Thatās a scream. A plea. A wound masked as a smile. Because heās the outsider among friends. Heās the extra. Heās just... there. But heās not part of it. And he knows that. Feels it in his bones. In his heart.
He doesnāt even sleep in the house. Doesnāt sleep on the property. Wanders into the woods. Into the dark. Into solitude. Some would say ā itās just habit, right? Heās used to the wild. Used to isolation. Bullshit. Itās not habit. Itās escape. Because being close ā hurts. Watching Abigail, watching John, watching their child ā itās like a blade across the soul. Their dream came true. And him? Who is he? Heās ā no one. Once, he was an outcast among outcasts. Now heās just... the only one left. Alone among the joyful.
And the doubts he voices to John ā āWill this life be enough for you?ā ā thatās not about John. Thatās about himself. Heās asking himself. He doesnāt believe happiness is possible for him. That he deserves it. That heās even capable of feeling something other than this tight, choking loneliness.
And that talk about going north, starting a family, finding a woman... I DONāT BELIEVE IT. NOT A SINGLE WORD. It sounds like a script. A rehearsed line. A mask. A way to say something so theyāll stop asking. He has no plan. No place. No direction. He says it himself. āI donāt know where.ā
Not Canada. Not Wapiti. He couldāve gone back there a hundred times. In eight years. But he didnāt. Because he never saw it as home. It was something lost, something nostalgic ā not a place he was needed.
And just finding a woman? Really? This is Charles. A man who lets NO ONE in. Heās built like a fortress. In his mind. In his soul. In his silence. And if he lets someone in ā itās forever. And if he doesnāt ā no one gets close. This isnāt about āsettling down.ā This is about finding a soul that moves him. And those are rare. Maybe one. Maybe none.
He says: āThese last eight years, Iāve come to accept the things I canāt change.ā Is that supposed to be hope? Itās not acceptance. Itās surrender. Thatās not light at the end of the tunnel ā itās the tunnel closing in. Itās numbness. Itās emptiness.
And John, dear John⦠tells him: āYouāre the strongest man I know.ā I HATE THAT PHRASE. I HATE WHEN PEOPLE SAY IT ABOUT HIM. I HATE WHEN PEOPLE SAY IT ABOUT ME. Itās NOT strength. Itās survival. Itās when life beats you so hard, all you learn is not to fall. Itās not a choice. Itās endurance. Heās not strong. Heās exhausted. Heās shattered. Heās lonely, heās silent, and heās so, so tired.
Even if he met āthe oneā ā would she love him? The real him? The broken one? The quiet one? The distant one? Or would she fall for the mask ā for the āIāve made peace with the pastā lie? And if she never sees the real Charles ā how could he ever be happy with her? He doesnāt do halfway. Not him.
Abigail and John are different. She knew his pain. All of it. His monsters. His sorrow. She accepted it. Who would accept Charles? Who even knows who he became?
And in that last ride... he says: āIām heading north.ā Turns down Sadieās offer to work together. Says itās time to move on. But what if he wasnāt moving forward. What if he was moving toward the end.
(Another powerful and unwavering argument for me: we all remember how Charles and John ride out to save Uncle in the epilogue ā and how Charles, with a chilling steadiness, says that if the uncleās wounds are too severe, the only mercy left would be to help him cross over. He speaks of killing ā not driven by hatred, not poisoned by cruelty ā but as a final act of love, a broken, desperate kindness to release a soul from agony. And I ask: was it only uncleās suffering Charles wished to end? Or was he, too, reaching for a way to quiet his own howling grief? I believe he was. I believe he desperately was.)
What if that was his way of saying goodbye. Softly. Quietly. Not āfarewell.ā Just ā gone. So they could keep living, believing heās somewhere out there. Alive. Just... far. But in truth ā he had already made peace. He had written his ending.
Not to the north. Not to Wapiti. Not to a woman. But to the place where nothing hurts anymore.
And if thatās what happened... if he really left...
...maybe, finally, he found peace.
Just saw your Senator Shockwave on ig and I am in love omg!!!! Look at him!! Look at what the senate robbed me!! I am swooning, take me away Mr senator!!!!
Ahhhhh!! >w< I'm happy you like him!! Thank you!! He is quite the handsome lad hehehe >:3c šš And Ugh right!!! (TāT) We were totally robbed! Brains and beauty. What a loss 𤧠Starscream, Soundwave please go take care of the senate, thank u! Lol.
I thought I had come out of my Senator Shockwave brain haze after the Shadowplay story, but then I had to read Dark Cybertron and I was hit again š so I'll be posting some more doodles of him probably! ^^
I'm gonna say this... Anton Ivanov from ZZZ Zenless Zone Zero is underrated. For each 20 post of Lycaon and/or Billy the Kids there's One for Anton, and whenever he's there it's just a group photo with the rest of Belobog Indistries.
Don't you sleep on my man.
Give my love to him and Ben Bigger.
woke up and first thing i do is be insane about white rabbit again. anyways here's another thread about him, focusing on his fatalistic views and relationship with the makaians he experimented on (this was formatted for bsky so i didnt go into as much detail as i wanted due to character limit and im too lazy to write more so)
white rabbit is a death seeker. like bro wants to die, plain and simple. he's on borrowed time with his artificial demon heart sustaining him. whatever freedom he hopes makaians will gain from bringing down sparda's wall, he knows he's probably going to expire before seeing it
it's pretty obvious with how he interacts with dante and lady. it's not just about killing them (he honestly seems pretty reluctant to kill lady in particular, perhaps thinking death is too good for her/wanting to thoroughly make her suffer first) it's about making them understand him
a lot of his decisions come across as reckless and kind of careless but i think it's by design. he shows a lot of himself to dante and lady, especially by leading them to his room. he wants to be "caught" in a sense. and it also explains why he doesnt just fall back and regroup when it's obvious he has no shot of winning against dante after his army gets decimated. he doesn't have the time or resources to try again (always running out of time!) and figures one last hail mary. and he does succeed! for a moment anyway
all of this is probably why he doesnt even sound particularly bothered when dante kills him, just leaves him with spiteful words about how this world fucking despises orphans and he has no place in it (holy projection batman!) he's completely resigned, and narratively, he's right.
another moment i keep thinking about is when he pulls himself from the river and finds bloodstryke (his last demon soldier). he doesn't look crazed or elated that he still has a shot or anything like that. he looks resigned and sad and empty. even regretful.
and bloodstryke, for a moment, actually looks happy to see him! which makes me think that it's very likely a lot of the makaians he augmented/experimented on were probably completely willing to donate themselves to the cause. why wouldnt they be? they have just as much a reason to fight.
idk we don't actually get too much follow up or fleshing out of his current relationship with the makaians, but to me it reads less like "mad scientist" and more like a weirdly twisted way of "caring" for them. it's not like white rabbit isn't also experimenting on himself and pushing his own body to its absolute limit. he knows what's at stake here.
i dont have a good way to end this thread im just thinking real hard about a lot of areas in the plot that season 1 didn't really have time to linger on (8 episodes is really damn short) and im hoping we see some sort of follow up on these plot threads (even flashbacks or whatever) in season 2 because i just love wrabbit so much and there's a lot of backstory they can utilize with him.
Once again thinking about Vincent as popeā¦
Vincent hating the attention heās given for doing simple things such as carrying his own bags, knowing the Swiss guards names, hugging children when they run up to him. Vincent despising how every human thing he does immediately becomes a headline: āPope listening to music!ā (He was wearing headphones and listening to some old favorites while hanging out with the turtles) āInnocent XIV goes shopping!ā (He forgot to bring a book to the airport and just wanted to buy something to read on the plane) āThe pope wears converse!ā (Heād owned the same pair of shoes for three years, and heād stitched them up himself after the fabric tore)
Vincent feeling more isolated than ever. Despite never being alone, there is not a single person who treats him as a person. Heās constantly watched, yet never invited into casual conversations, no one asks him to join them for coffee, no one rants about their boring work or tells him about their favorite books or talks about the weather.
Vincent waking up in a cold sweat most nights. Dreams of war haunting his sleep, the faces of the dead burned into his mind. He wakes up gasping for air, or screaming, or running to the bathroom to throw up.
Vincent sleeping on the floor more often than the bed. Vincent flinching at loud noises and always scanning the room for threats and ways to escape.
Vincent having flashbacks and panic attacks on the floor of his bathroom, not being able to call anyone for help because heās the pope, heās not allowed to fall apart or ask for help or take a break.
Vincent who cannot handle being snuck up on from behind, who canāt have meat that isnāt well done, Vincent who hides his shaking hands behind his back as he speaks about the saints who were stoned to death, because he knows what that looks like.
Vincent who once gets so startled by the bang of a bible being dropped onto the floor of St Peterās cathedral while heās holding mass that he instinctively ducks behind the altar, covering his head, sure that heās back in the war. Vincent who has to continue his sermon with shaking hands and voice, with his normally so present and kind eyes suddenly showing a far-away look. And Vincent who has to read the headlines afterwards, despite Aldo doing his best to shield him.
I also think about Thomas.
Thomas who tries to joke with Vincent about how the masses have never seen a pope young enough to have the strength to carry his own bags, Thomas who reminds him that even though he is the pope, heās still human.
Thomas who, despite this, is unable to call him Vincent. Thomas who has always seen the papacy as closest to the God he has such a hard time reaching, and Thomas who no longer sees Vincent when he looks at the pope.
Thomas who tries to comfort Vincent, but keeps calling him Your Holiness, and watching as Vincent pulls away more and more.
Thomas who once entered Vincentās room at night to leave him an urgent document, and found the pope curled up on the floor.
Thomas who always sees when Vincentās hands start to shake, who can sense Vincentās breathing quicken and his eyes start searching for escape routes. Thomas who canāt do anything to help, because the pope cannot be seen having to be escorted away because of anxiety.
Thomas who tries to learn what triggers Vincent, Thomas who takes notes on what makes the pope flinch or shake or hide away. Thomas who discreetly informs the rest of the staff closest to Vincent about how important it is to never sneak up on him from behind, or serve him anything resembling torn off flesh.
Thomas who finally sees how Vincent is actually doing once the incident at mass happens. Thomas who argues with everyone to try to allow Vincent to end mass early, but failing. Thomas who sends the altar boys and deacons away from the sacristy once mass is over and finally greets the pope by his original name.
Thomas who opens his arms and his heart as he sees the shaking man in front of him. āOh my dear Vincentā he says, and his heart breaks as Vincent falls into his arms and sobs.
Thomas who holds him tightly, whispering apologies for letting this continue, who promises to be better. Thomas who helps Vincent change out of his sweat soaked vestments, and who lets Vincent explain the horrors heās seen.
I also think about Aldo
Aldo whoās in the background of it all. Who sees how the new pope seems to be getting even thinner than he was. Aldo who tries his best to minimize Vincentās amount of paperwork on the days where the pope arrives to breakfast at 5 am with bloodshot eyes and holding his mug of tea with trembling hands.
Aldo who more than once has held up Vincentās hair as he throws up after stressful meetings with world leaders who are decimating entire populations. Aldo who sometimes pretends not to see invites from some of the dictators he knows Vincent hates the most.
Aldo who tries his best to keep the news away from Vincent whenever heās in the headlines. Aldo who brings Vincent hot chocolate whenever he knows an article will have upset him.
Aldo who always remembers to make his steps louder or clear his throat if heās walking up to the pope from behind. Who will always make sure there is a vegetarian option that wonāt remind the pope of wounded and dead bodies.
Aldo who every so often sees the popeās eyes flicker to the side, and knows it means Vincent is quietly suppressing the most horrible flashbacks, even with a smile on his face. And Aldo who always makes sure he has an excuse ready to get Vincent out of situations when it happens.
Aldo who tries his very very best to make Thomas realise that Vincent needs him.
Aldo who feels a weight leave his heart once he sees Thomas leading a shaking Vincent through the halls of the Santa Martha, and who smiles when they both enter the Homy Fatherās room.
