Not gonna lie, if I was Orpheus, I just wouldn't have turned arou–

Did you hear that?

Eurydice?

Eurydice, are you still there?

Sorry, I trust you're there. That noise just startled me for a second there.

...

You are there, right? Sorry. Of course you are.

This is a long tunnel. My feet hurt... Do you think we can stop for a while? I won't turn around.

I promise.

...

I'll take that as a yes.

Do you know how much longer it'll take?

I... I don't know why I keep asking you questions. I know I won't get an answer. But you can give me all your answers as soon as we're home.

I'm so tired. Let's rest. Just for an hour or so.

I love you.

I won't turn around.

...

Do you trust that I won't?

Sorry, I just realized how often I keep saying that I won't. Do I really think you don't trust me? Do I not trust myself?

How long have we been walking? It feels like days.

I just... I hope it's over soon. I keep feeling like I see the light at the end of the tunnel but it's just my imagination.

But I won't turn around... I prom-

What's that noise?

Is that you?

Are you even there?

Sorry. Again. And sorry I keep saying sorry. Am I going insane? I know you're there. Right behind me. Just one step behind.

Has it been weeks?

I think my hair's longer than it should be.

Months?

Will we ever make it out?

I trust you're there. I trust you're right behind me. I can't hear you. I can't look at you...

I won't turn around. I promise.

...

I love you.

Eurydice?

I...

I won't turn around.

I won't.

I.

...

I don't think there's an end to this.

Should we keep walking?

Should I just...

I'm sorry, I can't believe I'm even suggesting that.

I won't turn around.

Because I love you. And I trust you're there...

I love you.

I can't see you. Or feel you. Or hear you.

How can I love you...

You're hardly there. I know it doesn't feel that way to you.

But I just... I won't turn around.

... I promise?

Has it been years?

When will this be over.

Do I even love you if I can't even bring myself to look at you?

Let me see you! I can't do this. Let me hear your voice, Eurydice!

Eurydice?

I can't... I won't...

Turn around...

Turn around?

How could I be so stupid?

But this won't be over until I do.

I truly believe that.

I love you.

Even if I never see you again...

Please understand, Eurydice. I'm breaking this promise out of love.

Please understand.

I'm sorry.

I'm turning around.

You're beautiful.

For the record, you can pry my “Sarai used to be in the Crownguard before she married Harrow” headcanon from my cold, dead hands

Amaya trained the Standing Battalion and Sarai trained the Crownguard, and their ability to work together is why Katolis had the strongest fighting force in the Pentarchy

You can also pry “Sarai and Soren were insanely close before her death” from my cold, dead hands. Maybe not even then, because I’m gripping this idea tightly, even in death

Sarai helped Soren and his family manage his illness because of her experience with Damian. And Soren was just so excited that the Head Crownguard was hanging out with him! Even when he was at his worst, he’d always perk up if he could see Sarai train the soldiers from his bedroom window, or regale him with stories of legendary battles at his bedside

After Soren got better and Sarai left the Crownguard to become Princess of Katolis, she offered to show him the basics of swordplay and strategy to help Soren with all of his pent-up energy. Even though he wouldn’t be interested in poetry until years later, Soren was introduced to the concept through Sarai, who’d recite some of Damian’s old work for him during their time together. Sarai had essentially become one of Soren’s constants after his family fell apart with Lissa leaving, Viren growing cold, and Claudia throwing herself into magic

At least until she died, heroically saving his dad

I love how the beginning s5 Ezran plot line is like “Here’s Sorvus, and their adopted son, the king of Katolis”.

the david zwirner gallery and the felix gonzalez torres foundation in the smithsonian removed the descriptive plaque for portrait of ross in la by felix gonzalez-torres. the old plaque explained portrait for ross' origins as the artist's partner's aids related death, and replaced it with a plaque with absolutely no information about the piece itself, who ross was, or who gonzalez-torres was either. portrait of ross was also reeranged to lay on the floor long ways instead of in a pile as it typically is situated, and the plaque outside the exhibition FOR GONZALEZ-TORRES omits his sexuality, as well as his aids related death. i'm in utter disbelief

The Smithsonian's queer erasure of an AIDS artwork should alarm us all

Nobody Got You the Way I Do

Chapter 1: I Will Carry You Home

AO3

Summary: 5 times Corvus tells Soren "I got you." 1 time Soren tells Corvus "I got you."

Note: If you follow me (or just keep up with Sorvus), you may have seen many posts of mine after season 7 about the "I got you" scene. Well, I came up with this idea and decided to make it into an actual fic. Enjoy!

...

Soren had been challenging Corvus to all sorts of weird activities for a few days. Corvus wasn’t sure if there was a reason, or if it was just Soren being Soren. Or if Soren was just trying to distract himself from… well, everything.

Sure, they’d known each other since childhood, but that didn’t mean they’d known each other well. But Corvus was observant enough to know that Soren wasn’t doing half as well as he wanted everyone to believe he was. So, Corvus went along with his schemes, hoping it would bring a smile to Soren’s face.

Soren’s current choice of competition was a race across the field outside of the city that Corvus had wandered to. Soren had somehow followed, trailing behind him like a lost puppy. Corvus didn’t have the heart to tell Soren he’d wanted to be alone. But shockingly, Soren’s company wasn’t as grating as Corvus feared it would be. He actually found himself enjoying it.

Corvus sighed. “Fine. Where do you want to race to?”

Soren looked around them, bouncing on his feet. Even in a full suit of armor, Soren was somehow light on his toes - as Corvus had found out firsthand every time he’d attempted to escape Soren and Claudia and failed. That felt like a lifetime ago, now.

“There!” Soren said excitedly, pointing to a tree across the way. “There and back. Sound good?”

“Do I have a choice?”

“Not really,” Soren said with a grin as he prepared for their run. He stretched his arms across his chest and kicked his knees up. “Okay, go!”

Corvus followed behind him at a distance, used to endurance running more than… whatever this was. Soren turned around, running backwards. “C’mon, slowpoke! I know you can do better than that.”

Corvus focused on his breathing. “Don’t care.”

Soren rolled his eyes, still jogging backwards. Now he’s just showing off, Corvus thought. “Yes, you do. I’ve seen the look on your face when you beat me.”

Corvus did like winning, he just didn’t care in the same way Soren seemed to. So Corvus was fine letting Soren win most of these competitions. The smile it brought to Soren’s face was worth the blow to Corvus’s ego and competitive nature.

“Fine,” Corvus said as he sped up, catching up to Soren and running beside him. How had Soren still been winning even when going backwards?

“That’s more like it! Now -”

“Soren, watch out!” Corvus exclaimed. He’d noticed it a moment too late: a foot sized hole in the ground. He cursed, wishing he’d been paying less attention to Soren’s antics and more to their surroundings.

Soren’s eyes widened almost comically as his left foot landed in the hole. He started falling backward, arms windmilling.

Corvus reacted before his mind could catch up. He reached out a hand, catching Soren’s arm and pulling him upright, his other hand landing on Soren’s shoulder. They ended up face to face, almost nose to nose. Corvus could feel Soren’s sharp bursts of breath across his face.

“I got you.”

Soren’s eyes remained wide, but this time in… awe?

“You caught me.”

“Well, yeah, that too.”

“No, but like… you didn’t let me fall. As a lesson or something. Trying to teach me to not be so…” he waved his hand. “Soren-y.”

Corvus’s face twisted as he backed up once he was certain that Soren could stay up on his own, even with his foot in the hole. Their proximity was making him feel… weird. But he didn’t let go of Soren. “Of course not. Who would do something like that?”

Soren’s face darkened. “My father.”

“Oh,” Corvus exhaled. Corvus hated to speak ill of the dead, but everything he learned about Viren really made him hate him even more. “Well, as long as I’m around, I’ll catch you when you fall. I promise. Okay?”

Soren nodded, still looking at Corvus with reverence. “Okay.”

“And let the record show, I like your Soren-ness just the way it is,” Corvus added as he released Soren and kneeled down to take a look at Soren’s trapped foot. He needed to get away from Soren’s amazed eyes immediately or he might do something he regretted.

Since Corvus looked away, he missed how Soren’s face and neck turned a bright red at those words.

Soren watched as Corvus felt around the hole. “Whatcha doing?”

“Checking to make sure that this dirt is packed tightly. If it’s a collapsing animal tunnel or something, we don’t want to get you out of there and then have a bigger hole to deal with getting out of.” Corvus poked and prodded a bit more. “But I think we’re good to go. Put your weight on your other foot.”

Soren nodded, prepping for Corvus to free his boot.

Moments later, Soren grinned and flexed his now free foot. However, he wasn’t prepared for the jolt of pain that would run up his leg as he put weight on it, causing him to try and lose his balance yet again. Corvus quickly popped up to help hold Soren upright.

“Ow,” Soren pouted, putting an arm around Corvus’s shoulders to help bear some of the weight. “I think I twisted it.”

“You’re lucky that’s all you did, show-off. Do you think you can walk?”

Soren took a tentative step - and his knee almost buckled. “Mm, that’s gonna be a ‘not really, especially if I want to work the rest of the week and not injure it further.’ But it’s fine, you can head back to the castle and send somebody out for me.”

“Soren,” Corvus said exasperatedly. “I’m not leaving you.”

Soren’s heart fluttered. He shouldn’t read into that, but he wanted to. “Okay. Then how do you propose we make it home?”

Corvus didn’t react negatively to his use of “home” to describe the castle, which gave Soren hope that he’d say yes to joining the Crownguard and staying in Katolis - staying with Soren - when Soren finally worked up the nerve to ask.

“I think I can carry you, at least for a little bit. Would that be okay with you?”

Soren’s mouth went dry and he cleared his throat. “Uhm. Yeah. Yeah, that sounds…” he couldn’t say great, even though it did sound great and had his heart doing jumping jacks in his chest. “Agreeable.”

Corvus gave him a funny look, but shrugged off Soren’s odd response.

Corvus got down onto one knee in front of him (Calm down, Soren told his rapidly beating heart, he’s not even facing me.), preparing to give Soren a piggyback ride. “Okay. Hop on.”

...

Author's Note:

Thank you for reading! My plan is to upload a new chapter every other week because I don’t have all of them finished quite yet, haha. If I finish them all, I may update more frequently. We shall see!

You also may remember I made this post. So, I had to complete the piggyback set myself.

Minor fable

In which Soren feels like he's breaking @sorinethemastermind This is payback for putting the whump into fluffcember Listen to Minor Fable by Luis Berra for extra immersion

Soren was tired. That was the one thing he had been sure of for a long time.

Nothing else had been solid enough recently, more like a raging river. But now it was still, and he still wasn’t sure what was what.

A lot of Katolis was still staying at the camp outside the Banther Lodge, and Callum and Ez were leaving tomorrow, but for now, they were all staying in New Lux Aurea.

Soren had a tent to himself, which seemed like the manor of tents. It was quite large, and tall enough for him to be able to stand up straight in without his head hitting the top. There was a cot, elevated off the ground, a small desk with a chair, and a tall mirror on the desk, leaning against the canvas of the wall.

I should probably check on my cuts. He thought. He could feel the dried blood crusting around the cut near his jaw and the one on the side of his nose. Either was likely to scar, but he wasn’t completely sure.

He walked up to the mirror, looking at his reflection. A bit of blood was clinging to his hair, which was easy enough to pick out. There was another small cut severing his eyebrow, which was less of a new cut and more of the split of an old one, from the fall of Katolis.

That one was definately going to scar.

Stupid rock.

His mind wandered, which was dangerous nowadays. He had a habit of wandering back to moments he shouldn’t be lingering on, and this time was no different.

“Take my heart.” He had said to Viren.

“Soren, I- You know I can’t do that.” Viren’s eyes were… afraid.

Soren didn’t remember ever seeing him afraid until then.

“You have to do it. You’ve been fine with doing it my whole life, just do it!” His grip tightened on the relic staff. “Why can’t you do it when it matters?!”

Soren glanced back into the mirror, but didn’t see himself.

Instead, he saw Viren’s reflection staring back at him, in the same clothes he was wearing when he casted the Hearts of Cinder spell. His eyes were dark voids, with streams of red pouring down his face from them.

“Soren,” His voice was warped beyond recognition, barely recognizable. “You are me. You will always have my blood flowing through your veins, and nothing you can do can or will ever change that.” His face turned into a sneer. “I should’ve taken your heart when I had the cha-”

Soren’s fist collided with the mirror, splitting it into dozens and dozens of pieces. A sharp pain split through his hand as he staggered back. His blue eyes looked back at him in the broken pieces of mirror, split over and over and over again.

His hand throbbed profusely, and looking down at it, he watched rivers of blood spill from his knuckles. Small shards of glass stuck out from the tender skin, coated in the dark red.

He didn’t even notice that he was crying until he felt his tears land on his hand, causing the cuts to sting.

Soren sat on the cot, curling inward whilst still holding his left hand out, so as to not jostle the glass wedged into it. Hot tears streamed down his face, but he couldn’t tell if it was from the pain or from what he saw.

It might have been from both.

“Soren?” He heard a muffled voice from outside the tent.

Corvus.

“Yeah- uh, yeah come in.” He quickly wiped the tears off his face with the palm of his right hand. The last rays of daylight streamed into the tent as Corvus stepped in through the tent flap, and Soren could see his eyes darting around, taking in each bit of information that stuck out to him.

He also noticed his eyes go from the shattered mirror to his hand, still bleeding and dripping blood onto the ground.

Instead of asking the expected questions like What happened? and “Are you okay?”, he asked something else.

“Do you want help?”

Soren looked back at him, seeing the worried crease between his eyebrows before silently nodding. He didn’t trust his voice at the moment.

Corvus sat down silently beside him, removing his bag from his shoulder and opening it. Soren’s gaze followed him, watching him pull out a roll of gauze and tweezers before gently taking his hand.

He turned his head away before Corvus started pulling the glass out, biting his inner cheek hard enough that it bled, filling his mouth with the metallic taste of blood. He hadn’t said anything then, either.

Soren had counted about four pieces of glass before the pulling stopped. He had thought there was a lot more than that.

It had felt like it before the pulling, too.

He felt Corvus start to wrap his knuckles with the gauze after. Every touch was gentle, like a stream of water being poured over a blazing fire, calming the nerves in his hand.

Corvus always seemed to have that effect on him, somehow. Soren could never figure out how or why, though.

“Do you want to talk about it?” Corvus asked him, breaking the silence after he had tied off the gauze, wrapping around his wrist.

Soren shook his head, before leaning his head against Corvus’ shoulder. He didn’t even want to think about it, but the image of Viren looking back at him in the mirror, with a soulless void filling his eyes, was ingrained into his mind. Every time he closed his eyes, even for a moment, he saw it.

I should’ve taken your heart when I had the chance.

“Can you stay here tonight?” His voice was raw. He hated how the words made him sound like a child. But part of him knew he might not make it through the night if he was left alone.

Corvus nodded, and Soren felt him wrap an arm around his shoulders.

He felt like heated glass most of his life; bending and molding with everything that hit him.

But the glass had cooled now.

And he felt, if something else came swinging…

He’d shatter into a million pieces.

The Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler’s complex and compelling relationship gets me through my fucking DAYS BRO. The fact that, canonically, Rose Tyler’s influence was so great that she LITERALLY haunts the narrative, even nearly 25 years later. She dispersed herself through time and space — splitting beings into atoms as a literally goddess — to be with her soul mate forever.

And can we just talk about how the Doctor’s love for Rose was SO powerful that he literally regenerated into the perfect partner for her? Like legitimately MADE FOR HER. His hands fit in her perfectly and she’s the keeper of his hearts. He loses Rose? His entire UNIVERSE crumbles. The second time? He literally goes insane and changes a fixed point in time based on the delusion that the laws of time are his and he can control anything he wants, regardless of how they branch into timelines.

My brain rot goes deep, bro. I could go on for HOURS.

you have GOT to remember when watching the new doctor who that the question is not is this good. doctor who is only ever actually 'good' once a season at most. THE ONLY QUESTION IS is it fun, camp, and has aliens. also remember the worst doctor who showrunner is always the current doctor who showrunner. now go watch the new episodes as god intended like you're ten years old and still remember how to experience joy and whimsy.
