Cynthia couldn't help but worry about him, she took the time to look at him properly, taking in the tired gaze, the uncertain words. It broke her heart more than the awkwardness. She wanted to ask if he was well, if someone was looking out for him. But she wouldn't, couldn't, she didn't know how she'd feel with either answer he could give.
"I wouldn't have asked if you weren't wanted Will, honestly. You're still their father I don't know why you act like they wouldn't want to see you," Cynthia said with a sigh before reaching across the table to take one of his hands. "Either way, I want to see you. That should be enough for them... They do know though. I made it clear that it'd be a family occasion."
Honestly, he hates this. Not Cynthia, of course - he could never hate her - but everything else. The way this feels like a business transaction, almost, after decades of marriage is what bothers him most. It's not that he doesn't understand why things are going this way - he has entirely too much awareness of it all, and how incredibly his fault it is.
Holding a cup of coffee between his hands, he looked at her, his bright blue eyes offset by dark circles beneath them. "Right. I guess that makes sense. They're all... grown now." He shrugged slightly, pausing a moment. "I should be able to. If you really want me to." That was the part that he felt the least sure of. "Do they know that you're asking me?"
"I'm more than happy to take the lead tonight," Cynthia said with a smile as they walked onto the dance floor. As he leant in she glanced quickly trying to make sure no one else heard. There was no hiding the blush on her cheeks though and her gaze dipped from his before she looked up.
"Mm, an odd order to do things in I suppose. But one is far more enticing. I'll let you make your own mind up about which is which."
“I’m what’s called an intermediate- not good, but not bad- and but what I can do is far less impressive than someone with Spanish blood: you’re a natural dancer because of it, I’m sure, so you’ll have to lead the way.”
Laurie then smiled his oh-so charming smile he had perfected to a t and enjoyed the warmth of Cynthia’s hand around his own. He lowered his voice, leaning in a little closer. “To think I’ve seen you naked in my bed before I’ve seen you at a party with your dancing shoes on.”
"I do indeed," Cynthia enjoyed working with Aria especially due to her enthusiasm. "Can I take you out for a coffee? We can discuss it there and of course give you a nice break."
Aria nearly bowls over the person in front of her, coming to a halt so fast at the sound of Cindy's voice. She whips around and finds herself pasting on that polite smile once more - navigating the office these days was an ordeal and a half. "I am!" Excited, courteous, she could do this. "Do you have a client I need to look into?"

"Thank you for meeting with me Will," Although Cynthia and Will were divorced she still loved him, even if that didn't always come across very well due to her own stubborn bitterness. Meeting in a neutral place seemed to help and she gave him a small smile as she sat down at the table.
"I wanted to talk about Christmas, I've managed to get the brood to agree to come over all together for Christmas Eve, they're all busy on the day itself." That fact stung but she quickly brushed past it. "I want you to be there. If you can make it."

— BIOGRAPHY
Cynthia was born in Spain, her father was a general practice doctor and her mother was a lecturer at the local university. They had high expectations for their daughter but not a lot of time for her.
When she was 14 the family of three moved to New York. It took Cynthia a bit of time to adjust and she was marked as different for her accent.
Instead of focusing on bullies she kept her head down and studied. She studied hard soon getting top grades. One 'distraction' was William Bell. She was smitten with him very quickly.
Cynthia got into university and already had plans to major in Law when the time came. She liked the idea of bring justice.
But then life changed, just after graduating high school Cynthia found out she was pregnant. She loved William but the idea of a child was terrifying. They got married too. When their first child was born Cynthia struggled to adjust to motherhood, especially when William then went to the Naval Academy. Not to mention the fact she'd had to put her college dreams on hold.
Overtime she adjusted though, she did love being a mum but the thirst for more didn't go away. When the Bells first child reached the age of childcare she applied once more and got in.
Although finding the balance between mother and student was difficult she managed and eventually graduated with an offer to intern at one of the city's top firms.
Over the years Cynthia was able to worker way up in the ranks at work as well as having two more children with Bell. Although she is aware of the corruption and danger from the gangs she has been resolute in her fight for justice and refuses to be corrupt.
Eventually her personal life turned difficult though and, after seeing William's paranoia and lack of trust begin to bloom she asked for a divorce. Whilst she wanted to make it work she knew that it was getting worse.
She keeps an eye on him from afar and sees her children at least once a month. It hurts that she's lost the family she treasured and so she has currently been throwing herself into her job.
"Oh now that is very kind, are you sure though? I've likely had one too many already." Cynthia chuckled but wasn't about to say no to another drink, especially a free one.

Esme tipped the glass towards her lips, finishing off her third drink. She rarely drank this much, but she figured that since it was a party, then why not? “One more round for me.” Esmeralda smiled at the bartender before glancing towards the woman next to her. “And you can order whatever you’d like! It’s on me.”
Cynthia was grateful to see Laurie, it was nice to see someone with whom she needed to have no pretence and instead could be herself. The fact he was quite handsome helped too and she didn't hide that either.
When he put his glass down she chuckled and took his hand. "Oh you need not worry about that. I have Spanish blood, we're brought up dancing but I can tone it down, for beginners." She teased.
Laurie loved New Year’s Eve. It was the best night of the year to party and drink as much as he wanted and to dress up in one of his finer suits. He also knew he’d always get a good glass of champagne at a big party.
By the time Cynthia had appeared, Laurie had almost finished his first glass and was well on his way to drinking more. He smiled brightly at her when she approached and stood up straight.
“Hello to you, too, stranger. Long time no see.”
Laurie took a final swig of his champagne before setting the empty glass down on the nearest available surface and then turning back to Cynthia. “I’d love to dance. Just don’t show me up; I have a reputation to maintain.”
"Oh I know I'm sorry, I really do need to need to get better managing my time." Cynthia felt guilty about that, she always did struggle to make time. Usually she just threw herself into work especially around this time. "But I have all afternoon,"
Emma knew that at the end of the year she would have one of her babies gone off to college. She was excited, but knew it wouldn't hit her until the end of May. "You will be their favourite auntie." She shuts the door behind them, making her way down the hallway. "Coffee it is. I feel like it's been forever since we were able to catch up. Life seems to be keeping us busy."
