“but is it still abuse if the abuser doesn’t seem to realize he’s doing it?”
YES IT IS. Abuse is defined by the pain and trauma victims go thru, your suffering and fear don’t go down one bit because “abuser may not be aware of what they’re doing”, actually, it goes up! Being tortured by someone who doesn’t care enough to even freaking realize they’re damaging you is much more dehumanizing and emotionally taxing than at least knowing the abuser’s intention clearly and that they’re achieving exactly what they want to achieve. Being lost about abuser’s intentions adds on to the trauma!
It doesn’t matter if they meant to do it or not (in most cases they absolutely meant it or didn’t actually give a shit if they’re hurting you or not as long as they get what they want). Staying safe from this person is important. Stopping the abuse and preventing any future abuse is important. Healing is important. Label the abuser with whatever you need that helps you to heal. Forget abuser’s side of the story and focus on yours. What they agree or disagree, what they’re aware or aren’t aware isn’t nearly as important as stopping that person from harming you, and preventing them from hurting you ever again.
Please do tell me! I love hearing about other’s passions!
Someone: oh there’s this show I’m watching... oh, nevermind, it’s silly you probably don’t wanna hear about it
Me, knowing fully well how much it sucks to have your passions invalidated and how cool it is to rant about something you love:
“I think it’s brave that you get up in the morning even if your soul is weary and your bones aches for a rest
I think it’s brave that you keep on living even if you don’t know how to anymore
I think it’s brave that you push away the waves rolling in every day and you decide to fight
I know there are days when you feel like giving up but I think it’s brave that you never do”
— Lana Rafaela
For example:
I really like The Twilight Saga
I prefer snakes to any other creature
I like plain white milk (I didn’t think this was odd until recently when someone pointed it out)
(I’ll add more as I think of some)
Controversial opinion, but ur allowed to like things that suck
Like, sometimes there are just shows or books that are so goddamn awful for any number of reasons… But ya still like ‘em somehow, and that’s fine
It’s not required to write a 20+ page essay defending why you enjoy something shitty, you can just… Enjoy shitty things
Not all content is made equally and you’re allowed to like things that are far from perfect
Like, just, “This show sucks, but I like it anyway” is a totally valid response
I can’t wait for Autumn!
I’M SO AGGRAVATED WITH SUMMER AND THE HEAT AND SWEATING. I JUST WANT SWEATERS AND PUMPKIN SPICE AND CHILLY WEATHER.

We’re all having “hard conversations” about racism, police brutality, and #BlackLivesMatter I hope.
You’ve probably noticed that detractors often use the same “racist talking points” in response. Here’s a researched and sourced guide to help you answer, for the times you may get stuck.
