I Don’t Normally Respond To Anything On This Website, So I’m Not Sure Why This Of All Posts Is Compelling

I don’t normally respond to anything on this website, so I’m not sure why this of all posts is compelling me so much to do so but I have to throw my two cents down because while karosiv is right to a certain extent, give or take a few things, I can’t help but feel like there’s a lot more nuance to this question that’s being left out.

It’s media dealing with new or generally unexplored concepts and themes, so I can’t help but feel like it should go without saying that said followings may get a bit turbulent. You’ve got some people potentially backlashing off of the entire concept in general because it’s different, and other people who have felt so marginalized or worse, accustomed to a not so great status quo that they’ve developed a chip on their shoulder; and while I think it’s important for everyone to learn to exercise restraint and a sense of perspective, there’s a definitive reason for that chip existing. Throw in all the usual suspects like people pushing forward agendas too heavily, more for their egos than anything personal, and the usual crazy fans being crazy fans and you get what it is.

However, and I know this goes without saying but in lieu of the generally negative slant of many of these comments I feel compelled to say it; but these instances really aren’t the majority of these fandoms. Followings aren’t a colossal hive mind, they’re made up of a variety of different people and of course...chances are you might get a few unhinged or lacking-in-perspective people in the mix too and they tend to get attention like any spectacle of bad behavior does, but that doesn’t mean there’s also a whole lot of others expanding their horizons, and overall just being a part of something exciting and new...both for others, and in some cases for themselves after a perceived reality of marginalization. There’s difficulties and things to learn to...but not everyone, if not the majority do that in an obnoxious way.

I know there’s a tendency to develop a bit of a myopic view of media and their followings on sites like these, maybe because so many perspectives here are right up close and in it making it hard to see the big picture...you know what I mean? And its understandable, but its good to take a step back and look at the larger perspective of whats going on sometimes. Things like shipping wars, inaccurate fanart, people telling others to kill themselves etc...that’s all things present in most fandoms. I’ve seen series’ that “played it safe”, or at least weren’t quite as cutting edge progressive in some respect but just happened to become popular...go through the same thing. Crazy fans are always gonna be there, I’ve seen different flavors of this situation time and time again; it’s not important and it’s certainly not a unique problem to these sort of media.

Sorry for the long comment, but bottom line basically is....it’s new, so chances are it’s not going to be completely comfortable but that’s why it’s making an impression and while you’ll run into patience draining aspects of it (believe me, I know) and crazy fans will always find ways to be crazy fans so whatever to them...however generally speaking I think there’s a lot more positive things going about this type of media. It’s easy to take for granted if you’re a certain age, or pay too much attention to crazy fans, but there is a legitimate progression overall going on. I never would have imagined even the implication of an LGBT characters, much less actual flattering showings of said characters in cartoons, movies, comics...whatever. There’s still a long way to go yes, but stuff’s happening.

It’s a good thing. I know it’s tough, but don’t let idiotic fans spoil that. It’s just bad weather.

why is it always media that tries to be open and inclusive like steven universe, overwatch, dream daddy, that have the worst fanbases that run around telling eachother to kill themselves over inaccurate fanart and headcanon disputes

I'm Batman.

I haven't reblogged anything yet, until now; because how can I pass up being able to legitimately say I am the night.

I really like this game's vibe, and the minimalistic 2D graphics are pretty distinct. I'm not sure what motivated me to draw it to look like an 80's or early 90's science fiction anime series, or put it in the style of old Japanese game box art, but well...it happened. Also my first post.
