I think the fanganronpa community would be a lot nicer and happier if we all collectively invested ourselves into nicher fan games. Like yes, P:EG is great, DRDT is amazing, SDRA2 is peak, but if those are the only fangans you have consumed you need to delve deeper. Go find something with like 20 views and art that looks kinda sketchy and go sit through it. If it's good, fuck yeah, new thing to be crazy over! If it's bad, then congratulations, you've consumed a bad piece of media, now be normal about it. It's fanfiction. Stop expecting every fangan to be Edens Garden visually. Stop expecting every murder case to have LINUJ level complicated. Stop expecting every fangan to be peak fiction and better than danganronpa in every way or else it's bad and horrible forever. It's fucking fanfiction. People are creating fangans for fun and you consume them for fun, and there are so many fun fangans you can find and cherish and experience if you open yourself up to flawed media.

Peg has made this fandom so rude oh my god. As a fangan creator I'm fine getting criticism, I've always gotten it and I accept that's just a part of putting content out but since Peg came out every bit of criticism is so much more nitpicky and so much more rude. It's genuinely so disheartening. What especially frustrates me is people making incredibly rude comments to VAs and their voice performances when they're literally working for free and incredibly talented. I've been in the fandom for years but this level of scrutiny and entitlement from fans and overall just being cruel is something I've only recently just been seeing. I just think the treatment of VAs is unacceptable and I wish I could say it publically but I know if I do i'll be accused of being 'unable to take criticism'. So please just be nicer to smaller projects and VAs.

The only reason people find edens garden "bad" is because they kept putting it on a ridiculously high pedestal and when it didnt meet all those standards it was seen as "bad"

I havent seen it personally(I havent been given a reason to, the only thing ive heard of it for 2 years is that the art was made by the kid) but im sure its nowhere NEAR as horrendous as some people saying

Okay so I looked at Damon's default sprite and I already came up with a possible headcanon.

Maybe Damon has some sort of scoliosis (judging by how uneven his shoulders are, it looks pretty bad.) If you don't know what it is, it's the unnatural curvature of the spine, which can make your shoulders uneven as a result.

Most fangans (that I've come across) are pretty well done/executed. I haven't come across a fangan that I haven't liked from a writing standpoint yet, but if I don't like it, I'll just move on, it's not that deep. i really admire fangan creators and their hard work, and if fans want to hate on them for their creations, then they should leave the fandom and touch grass. The fandom is chock full of people who misinterpret stuff to spread hate anyway. Speaking of the fandom, its toxicity is very similar to that of k-pop fandoms, just on a smaller level.

For Von and all other fangan creators, great job on your work! Don't let the hate get to you. I definitely appreciate y'all's work.

while this is an interesting take, it's still too soon to tell whether damon will be a good protag or not. the entire fangan needs to be released before we can determine his actual entertainment value.

I think I figured out why I don't like Damon as the protagonist of P:EG. And it has to do with my recent rewatch of House M.D.

Now, House is arguably worse as a person than Damon is. He causes trouble and does a lot of shit that should have sent him to prison multiple times. He treats people who have talents in other fields like complete idiots even when he's wrong about something and they're right, and is contrarian to spite others most of the time. He treats people like puzzles to solve. He nearly kills people, and in some cases actually did. And yet I find him more entertaining as a protagonist and want to follow him and his story.

And I think the key differences are three-fold.

He plays off other characters well and has one or two constant "straight men" to bounce off of who are equally as fucked up as he himself is. (Ex: Wilson, Chase, Foreman, Cuddy, etc.)

He's actually somewhat self-aware that he himself is just as much of the problem a lot of the time, even as early as season one episode one. (Points out times he was wrong on a diagnosis, how he's constantly being a jerk, that his Vicodin addition is an issue even if it helps him manage pain)

He actually has fears and reasons for doing what he does that play into why he is the way he is, all in ways that are easy to glean during his first few appearances. (the addition to solve a puzzle, the fear of being in pain, and more)

Damon doesn't have people he can play off of well. He's so self absorbed he refuses to even acknowledge the rest of his peers. He (currently) doesn't have a reason for being the way he is that we can put together through even context clues.

I think if they'd gotten the chance to live, Eva and Wolfgang could have been those people he could bounce off of along with maybe Kai or Diana. We could have seen more of the kind of Debater and Ultimate he wants to be and how he'd butt heads with people he's meant to be working with, even possibly leading. We could have someone who would actually be interesting to follow.

My problem isn't that Damon is an asshole protagonist.

It's that he's an asshole protagonist with barely any substance or real entertainment value.

I love Eva so, so much, but she deserved ALL that smoke (pun unintended). She claims she was forced to kill, but in reality, she set herself up. Also, not only did she kill Wolfgang, but she drugged him (which caused him to hallucinate) and made Diana watch him suffer/die. She also manipulated Damon into thinking that Wolfgang had it out for them, when in reality, he was just wary of them both, which was justified.

Yeah I love Wolfgang and I'm still salty about his death. I love Eva too, but girl you did NOT deserve to live after what you did.

Anyway, hats off to the Project: Eden's Garden team for an excellent chapter 1. Dare I say 10/10.
