OKAY OKAY OKAY so idk if you are aware but before Fontaine came out, his trial was leaked ( Specifically the comic of that showed him being evil like Furina tried to paint him out to be ). That on top of the marionette Lynette theory made many speculate that Lyney was going to be insane and that Lynette would be dead. ( One theory basically gave a whole backstory to where Lynette died tragically on a Fatui mission when they were younger and Lyney, unable to cope with his sister's death, either 1) took her dead body and made it into a puppet or 2) made a puppet replica of his sister. Either way he'd be controlling her and stuff which would explain her lifeless expression )

While I love that whole theory, I always adore the idea of Father Lyney where he, though doesn't face trauma like Arlecchino does or is necessarily evil, has to follow the Fatui's orders which would make him appear so and us, the Traveler, are basically back to square 2 with him where we felt betrayed and upset at him for being affiliated with such an awful organization.

Like, don't get me wrong, I like our Lyney but I wouldn't have minded it AT ALL if he resembled more of Wanderer and his story where he actually did have an evil phase and, through strife and probably an ass whooping, became a better person. ( Not necessarily good, but a better person.

This is sad as hell, but I also love it when people dive more into Lyney's depression because I feel as though not many talk about it ( which makes sense if you don't read up about it ) Like homeboy literally tried to off himself at some point??? Legit grew so desperate to be put on the same missions as his sister when he was younger that he tried to get a delusion that literally kills your body and can give you a slow, painful death like I find that so insane.

Gosh I love this man. The yearning is getting worse by the day I fear- 😓

This is just a short story of Future Freminet and Future Lyney

Threads are now scattered on the ground as i weave them into a new tapestry

In the lonesome night a match flickers with sparks before it's gently placed on some candles lighting a picture of the man

That no longer in this world

"Lynette has returned to her usual duties" a man spoke his voice gentle like the falling snow

"She really has made an improvement" the man spoke as he turned away from the picture as if the man didn't want the picture to his newly formed scar

"Finally got the time to shave" he chuckled but there was no joy in his voice

The man felt silent as he looked in the familiar office hall which looked more like a dumpster than an office to be honest

The silence hung in the air like a thread until the man finally cut it with a simple word

"I miss you, Lyney"

The man slipped on the floor in the exhaustion

"I am... so tired" he mumbled as he buried his face in his hair

"Your cruel or perhaps i am just too weak but we would have the chance to argue about that if..."

"You weren't dead"

Another pause as if there was another thread needed to be cut

"Hmph I wish we could" his voice cracked out

The second thread got cut

"But now" he stood up before continuing "i am the head of the house" he looked back at the old picture of Lyney and this time Freminet's new scar, his eye patch was very visible "and i have to say i don't know what to do"

He took some steps now pacing around the picture as he voiced his thoughts "i wasn't made a successor i just became one because if i didn't who would? Lynette? She was already grieving so much i couldn't let her go through something so challenging. Other children? No way they don't have a vision like i do none of them are strong enough to be one and that's when i thought"

He stopped now looking at the picture "what's the point of having a successor? I am aware not every child is not capable of leading but..."

"Just by us having one heir leaves us vulnerable to attack" he whispered his hands folding close to his chest

"Do you think if i became a little cruel..."

"And strings these children fates"

"To then Measure the lengths of their strings with my cold calculated eye"

"And cut those same strings to bind them to their fate like their part of the dead like you"

"Would my children live?"

The voice of a "Father" echoed from the numb man

"Tell me" the sign of the final string snapping was clear as another voice made it through the deathly silence

"If I help these children, teach them the things that they are good at, hone their skills even if they will forever be traumatized will i at least get to see them survive the storm to see a brighter day?" "Father" voice echoed through

But only his voice echoed through

Then

Came a sigh

"Right... You're not here to speak to me" he huffed

"Then there is no one to stop me"

"I'll be these children Fate that will give them a fair verdict" his words not a promise but a fact for that is what he'll make of this punishment

A memory now frozen in time

It was the middle of the day with Freminet sitting in the garden writing some papers when a curious girl approached him "wait if you became the head then... is there a chance that one of us going to be heir too" the girl spoke with an innocent wonder

"You will" he responded plainly as his focus on the papers rather than the little girl

"How?" the girl spoke with determination which finally caught Freminet's attention now facing the girl he spoke out a simple word

"Outsmart me"

"EHH! No way that's impossible" the girl protested

"Your "Grandfather" did it just fine" he replied leaning into his chair while sipping some tea

"Mmh but i am not some... demon thingy" she tried to make an argument

"Neither am I"

"Your point?"

The girl became quiet with embarrassment

"Run along" he dismissed her

The girl left without question leaving with clear embarrassment

"The same boring answer" he spoke with a scoff

"I never said you had to outsmart me Alone"

Ok now that I've finished Dark Heir, I still think there's something not right about The Lady and the forces of light. Something's not adding up.

The white death and the army - If the army created with the white death belongs to the Dark King, why would the Lady kill Visander, her champion, to be resurrected that way? Would the Dark King not have power over him when he returned? If she knew what returning would be like and intended for Visander to actually fight the Dark King, why was he not briefed on the procedure? He didn't even know that he wasn't going to be returning in a few years.

Sarcean's brand - Why would the Dark King put a mark that protects people from the white death on his followers? If he killed his followers in the past so that they could return in the future, why wouldn't he want his past followers to possess the bodies of people he had chosen and and were devoted to him in the present? Surely that would make a stronger fighting force than an army made up of the bodies of peasants, children and the elderly? Why leave it up to chance when he could have hand-picked the bodies that would house his loyal army?

Why did Sarcean choose for him and Anharion to be reborn the way they were? It's risky, isn't it? Either of them could have been killed as children. What's more, it is mentioned in the book that the returning spirits, like Visander, have no regard for the people or the world of the present because they had never lived in the present. They just carried on their ancient goals as if they had never been gone. So why did Sarcean choose to be reborn with no memories of his past and with all the chances in the world to form connections and to be a different person? Why take the chance with Anharion?

Kettering didn't recognize Will. He didn't even care about fighting but he knew about how they were to return. Why? Why wouldn't someone who was supposedly part of the Dark King's loyal army recognize the one who put him in that state? Visander recognized Will/Sarcean even when he was wearing someone else's body. But Kettering didn't even recognize Will when he was just himself. If Kettering really had been just a lowly foot-soldier, he just happened to have the knowledge of how the resurrection of the army worked?

It's not that I don't believe Sarcean was a bad guy who did a lot of evil shit. I just don't think he was the biggest, baddest guy around. I think the reason Visander wasn't prepared for his return, the reason that Kettering didn't know Will and the reason that Sarcean's mark protects people from the white death is that the white death is a tool of The Lady and the side of the light. I think if Sarcean wanted an unstoppable army, he didn't have to do it that way. He already had the stewards-turned-shadows, the shadows kings, Anharion and his collar - all the methods of control that relied on his blood and unstoppable magic to control, rather than on some sort of staff that anyone could get ahold of.

Besides that, the whole story that "The Lady and the Dark King loved each other" seems more and more like propaganda and rewritten history. As far as Will's flashbacks show, the only one Sarcean seemed to be genuinely obsessed with is Anharion. The only irresistible impulse Will regularly felt and acted upon was seeking out and sticking to James. He wasn't even drawn to Katherine the way Katherine was drawn to him. There was even one part where Sarcean is surprised to feel something for The Lady: "He hadn't expected his feelings of their one night to catch him so unawares; to recall how painfully and beautifully they had found themselves matched." My theory is that Sarcean cared only about overthrowing the Sun King and having Anharion, no matter what it took - all of that taking over the world stuff, I don't think that was him.
