This is the Lunar Eclipse of May 15th, 2022! ๐๐๐
As the Earthโs shadow covers the Moon, it appears to disappear into darkness. This is just one of 85 lunar eclipses that will occur in the 21st century. If you missed this one, donโt worry! The next total lunar eclipse will occur on November 8th, 2022. ๐๐โจ

This is the Rosette Nebula! ๐น๐น๐น
This is definitely the best image I have taken of this giant molecular cloud! This nebula is a star forming region with hot, blue newborn stars at its center that is shaping this region to form a beautiful flower-like shape. As seen from Earth, this nebula appears almost 5 times larger than the full Moon! โจโจโจ

This is the Lobster Nebula!ย ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ
Despite this creative name, there were multiple petitions to change this nebulaโs name to the Madokami Nebula (named after a character in the anime Madoka Magica) and the War and Peace Nebula (named after its resemblance to a skull and dove). The core of the nebula is the Pismis-24 cluster containing very massive stars up to 100 solar masses each! โจโจโจ

This is the Whale Galaxy! ๐ณ๐ณ๐ณ
This galaxyโs strange shape comes from interactions with a smaller dwarf galaxy seen above it. This has resulted in high numbers of supernovae from rapid star formation blow wind and dust out of the galaxy in aย โsuperwindโ! โจโจโจ

One of my best shots of this stunning galaxy! Please follow my astrophotography tumblr (mystarypi-astronomy.tumblr.com) for similar astrophotos like these!
This is the Silver Coin Galaxy! ๐ธ๐ธ๐ธ
This is one of the brightest and dustiest galaxies known to Earth. With so much dust, star formation is aggressive in this galaxy and thus, it is classified as a starbust galaxy! โจโจโจ
Many scientists think that the star formation may have also been caused by the Silver Coin Galaxyโs collision with a dwarf galaxy billions of years ago! ๐๐๐

This is the 2021 Pink Supermoon!๐๐ท๐ธ๐น๐บ๐ผ๐๐ฎ
Although this moon is not pink, the nameย โPink Moonโ is named after the pink phlox flower that appears in the spring during the time of this event. This rare celestial event wonโt happen again for another 8 years so be sure to check it out! โจโจโจ

This is another photo of the Jupiter Saturn Conjunction! ๐ช๐ช๐ช
The two planets are getting closer each day! I love this picture because you can clearly see Jupiterโs 4 largest moons (Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto) and a nice view of Saturn. This event is very rare - Jupiter and Saturn are the closest since the year 1623! โจโจโจ

This is Vega! โจโจโจ
This is the brightest star in the summer constellation Lyra and the 5th brightest star in the night sky. Infrared observations have confirmed a circumstellar disk of dust around this star, similar to the Kuiper Belt around the solar system! ๐๐๐
