Probably Not A Great Sign For Capitalist Hegemony When Even The Facebook Crowd Can't Take This Seriously

probably not a great sign for capitalist hegemony when even the facebook crowd can't take this seriously

You know the American history courses I took always stopped around the 80s

Only AP went further, and it never focused too much on the 90s or the 00s even though you could very well do that.

And have it to be more relevant than whatever the fuckboys were touting in the 1700s.

I just think that that’s interesting.

America was doing all manners of nonsense in the periods you’re not taught about.

I mean maybe it’s different in other American high schools.

But I personally think that American history should focus more on the gulf war.

Maybe on Israeli-Palestinian relations.

African SAPs.

The colonialist policies of the IMF and World Bank.

Seriously why the fuck do we bother so much with the Founding Fathers and all their blathering about freedom while black women waited on their children?

Americans should be learning about how their capitalist system has fucked over every country they’ve written off as backwards.

Like I have no idea how us history is taught in other schools.

But I get the feeling that America would rather focus on the “distant” past.

America doesn’t wanna talk about the war on terror or Iran contra or the AIDS epidemic or the six day war and why we and Britain fucked up an entire region after world war 2.

Or how we started terrorist groups and put military dictatorships in place to protect our companies and their profits.

Or how the institutions that we essentially control are keeping those in poverty in poverty.

Seriously.

Enough with James Madison, who cares about human rights when your own government ignores the blatant human rights violations of a country that we’re allies with?

Come on.

American history can start with the damn Boston tea “massacre” if it wants, but why don’t we linger some more on Afghanistan?

We were involved.

We watched while our shock therapy programs fucked up Yugoslavia.

We watched while capitalism put nationalism in power and stirred ethnic violence.

And guess what?

American history is rooted in colonialism.

Which had a hand in the Rwandan genocide.

Which was ignored and debated in the UN, controlled monetarily by yours truly.

So please for the love of god.

Talk about the War of 1812 for like a day.

Go over American intervention in places it doesn’t belong for the rest of the year.

Go over slavery, yes, go in depth about reconstruction and segregation. These are important parts of American history.

But so is the era America decided its companies needed steady markets from every portion of the world so they could make billions instead of millions and decided to fuck everyone else over in the process.

The governor of Pennsylvania (the state the Adjuster was found in), Josh Shapiro (who was on the shortlist to be Kamala's VP pick lol) just said at a press conference: “In America, we do not kill people in cold blood to resolve policy differences or express a viewpoint."

What, Josh, exactly, are we supposed to do?

Vote? Thanks to gerrymandering, the electoral college, politicians being funded by corporations, and "news" organizations peddling propaganda, that does shit all.

Protest? We try doing that and we are just ignored. The right makes jokes about running over protestors (because apparently only the lives of rich white people matter).

Call our politicians? They don't fucking care. We've been trying that for decades and they barely passed Obamacare, which Trump now wants to dismantle.

MLK said "a riot is the language of the unheard." We have been screaming at the tops of our lungs that these "policy differences" are killing us. Costly private medical insurance is killing us. Lack of gun control is killing us. Rising food and fuel prices are killing us. Microplastics everywhere is killing us. Fossil fuels are killing us.

And people like you, Governor Josh Shapiro, do nothing except protect your rich friends.

I'm surprised it's taken this long, and I'm surprised there haven't been copycats yet. Let me know when I should grab my torch and pitchfork, because my student and medical debt ridden ass is very ready for some good old-fashioned revolution.

“I feel bad for his kids.” I don’t. They’re gonna get the best therapy money can buy. They’re gonna have nannies to take care of them. And once they become adults they’ll get enough money to set them up for life.

My mom died when I was a kid and my dad had to take care of us by himself on artist wages. If you’re struggling to make rent with your commissions, imagine trying to support two kids on top of that while trying to deal with the deaths of your wife and your father within a month of each other.

So yeah. I don’t feel bad for any of his family. They’ll do fine without him. They’ve got the money for it.
