In my humble opinion, a young rjl's favorite 3 flirtation tactics are as follows:

Wincing and stretching out his shoulders until Sirius offers to give him a shoulder massage

Writing silently about Sirius in his journal (it's a diary) alone in the corner of the common room, stealing looks at Sirius until he looks back, and then looking away so quickly he gets whiplash

And finally—his boldest, and most effective tactic—looking up at Sirius and batting his big brown eyes at him

sirius saw remus was in his lighter coloured sweater today, and when he told him he liked it, remus smiled and said he wore it because the weather has been nice lately and the sun was so bright today he wanted to match it :) and sirius wanted to die because remus is so cute to him that he must collapse and die

Thinking about wolfstarbucks roommates where James and Sirius build Remus a canopy bed, so he has a cozy little cave to hide in when he's having a bad day.

Sometimes he's alone in there when he really needs some space from it all but more than often he actually would like some company and then he will leave a trail of his socks leading to the bed so James and Sirius know they can come cuddle.

here is a third snippet from lotf ch 4 because yes, i am still working on that same chapter 😭 in my defense i’m working on another fic (with a deadline!) at the same time!!

Remus chooses to believe that he is simply growing as a person and learning to challenge his anxiety instead of letting it hold him back, rather than it having anything to do with how intense his feelings for Sirius are. Because they aren't. Intense. They're just...feelings. Regular feelings. The exact normal amount of feelings that should be expected on the way to a second date.

Used For: Avoiding outdoor activities (changes reason based on conditions)

Effectiveness: 7/10 - Teachers assume it's a chronic condition and stop questioning

4. "My circadian rhythms require recalibration."

Used For: Skipping early morning classes

Effectiveness: 6/10 - McGonagall's eyebrow twitches but she allows it once per lunar cycle

🥈 TIER 2: MEDIUM-EFFORT LIES WITH A STRAIGHT FACE

3. "The moon’s in retrograde." (Not a real thing.)

Used For: Avoiding having to watch Quidditch practices (James buys it; Sirius cackles).

Effectiveness: 8/10 – James panics and asks if he needs chicken soup.

2. "I've developed an unfortunate reaction to [nearby object]." (gestures vaguely)

Used For: Leaving uncomfortable situations

Effectiveness: 8/10 - Works best in potions class where plausible accidents happen

🏆 TIER 1: ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECES OF DECEIT

1. "I'm presently engaged in critical lunar research."

Used For: Leaving any situation with an air of academic importance

Effectiveness: ∞/10 - Works best when said while holding a chocolate bar as if it's research equipment

0. "I’m legally required to lie down." (No such law exists.)

Used For: Everything. Everything.

Effectiveness: ∞/10 – Even McGonagall lets it slide once.

HONORABLE MENTION (THE ONE TIME IT FAILED):

"I can’t, I’m allergic to... this conversation."

Used On: Sirius, who immediately throws a pillow at him.

Verdict: "Try harder, Moony."
